Is Your Swimming Pool Being Taken Care of Properly? Calling ALL Homeowners

This video might be a littler controversial, but it's the truth. Some companies are charging less, but not carrying the chemicals needed to maintain your pool properly. I've been told this numerous times from employees of other companies first hand. Don't like it, oh well. Do the right thing!

We operate in Pinellas County. We do our best to keep up with research to make sure we are properly balancing the pool. We noticed the same thing with new accounts. Like last week a lady had 150 CYA and pool was green but had chlorine in it and the company couldn’t solve the issue. Great video. We are human, we make mistakes, but purposely under dosing pools is fraudulent. Bad business practies

I agree 100%. We need the homeowners more educated. I love educating them when they ask questions. Glad youre in in our county making pools better! Thanks for watching.

Spot on! I might have to implement your strategy of not quoting the pool until after a full set of chem readings is done. Taken on lots of accts in the past yr where I'm eating my whole first month of service fees just to balance the water even though the pool was being maintained by a different company before the acct was taken on.

This day and age with companies not maintaining the pool properly it’s unfair for us to pick up the tab. You’re absolutely right. It can cost a lot of money to get the pool where it should have been to begin with. Thanks for watching.

I come to find this same thing all the time. I understand it happening once in while, we can't have all chemicals all the time, but once a pool gets dialed in it takes a lot less chemicals to keep it maintained.

The first 1:30min is spot on, most of the time is alwasy like that, pool unbalance and very dirty, costumers may not notice the difference because some got used to seeing the pool normal until someone else comes along and fixed all the problem thats when their eyes are open.

This practice has been going on since the beginning of time. Used to be it was just a few unscrupulous service companies but now it is running rampant. The budget guys have always skimped on chemicals as a way to stay profitable. But with the cost of supplies through the roof even good companies are pressured to either repeatedly raise rates or find questionable methods to preserve their margin. As a homeowner I was having green water about 5 days after a weekly service. One day I saw the tech drive up, just dump chlorine in and leave. I got my water tested and discovered no chemicals present other than sky high CYA from the tablets. I fired that guy but the next company did exactly the same thing. This repeated until I had to learn to care for it myself. Unfortunately by that time my pool had to be resurfaced from years of imbalance. I don’t expect the price of chemical to ever return to pre COVID level so a lot of the budget guys will likely go out of business. This leaves the remaining guys charging double their old rates and more pools than ever needing service. Really a bummer for the industry to have all those guys out of jobs and yet the rest still unable to find good workers. Not to mention homeowners who can no longer afford to get their pool serviced and need to take it on themselves. I am hoping that either my assessment is wrong or that somebody out there has a solution. For now I’m glad that the reputable pool companies are benefiting from the situation but something has got to reverse this trend.

It’s a shame that’s been happening but make total sense which is why the prices are wildly different. Like you mentioned we are getting raised by the supply house roughly 6-8 times a year now versus 2x per year pre covid. So what my company does now is we (my wife) does an audit on EVERY POOL we have each month. If they don’t meet our minimum margin we suggest an increase or part ways. There is literally zero point of servicing a pool for free as a business. We have a dozen or so charity accounts but the others just have to make money, especially with all the benefits my company offers. To your other point, I agree, at some point pool service is going to be priced out for the majority of companies because of the continued rising costs. Thanks for your comment

Always enjoy your content, wouldn’t be a bad idea to try and get some of the main pool companies in south Florida to get together and talk about charging more for monthly service. Have had routes in Cali , Hawaii and now Florida and in Hawaii we wouldn’t take a pool for less than $300 for full service bc the main companies got together once a year and set the prices.

I’ve had bad experiences with pool service. The guys come out and won’t even clean the filter and complain that they had to drive 20 miles to service my area because the other guy quit. I ended up doing it all myself and with some help from Pinch A Penny to do the hard stuff. I also had to start maintaining my own lawn and I’m in a 900k home.

This video had to be made. Hell, I wipe “professional” asses as often as my own kids. It sucks when customers are in shock from a quote, hearing their pool isn’t right when they’ve had a company this whole time.

@HorizontalCrank thanks. Their typical response is “but it’s clear”. I immediately say that doesn’t mean it’s safe to swim in, or good for the longevity of their equipment or surface.

Why don't you just charge the customer for chemicals used monthly?

  • @ChlorineKingPoolService

    @ChlorineKingPoolService

I would have to hire a person that their only job is to calculate chemical use charges. Over the course of 600-700 pools per week that’s a lot of work to get that all figured out. Especially with double checking the supply house pricing to make sure they are charging the same price as yesterday.

@@ChlorineKingPoolService can you clarify this please. I thought that skimmer had a feature that tracked chemical usage for each individual client. Why would there be a need for a separate person. Maybe you could do a video that explains that. That would be awesome. I am really on the fence with the chemicals included pricing structure vs charging for service plus chems. Thanks for sharing your knowledge bro

  • @ChlorineKingPoolService

It does and you can run a p&l on each pool at anytime. Just going through 600-700 pools each week for a month to add up chem costs can take up a lot of time.

@@ChlorineKingPoolService it seems like an automation should be made inside skimmer for this. The automation should scan the 600-700 accounts with a set criteria that you put in that it will kick back a list of accounts that are below a certain profit margin. This way you can see the pools that are “flying under the radar” ie using too many chems and then raise the price on the customer accordingly. Am I on to something here or have I missed why that would not work?
