For me as a solo player with 215 hours played and purely PVE focused and as someone who just completed all achievements and finished the game on Brutal difficulty, It was 100% worth every penny spent. And i also would probably go so far as to say that i think it is hands down the best game made in the "survival" category in the last 10 years. After 215 hours, i have not encountered a single bug or glitch in the game, that is quite impressive on the developers part! I don't think i can name a single game that i have played that is as clean as this game in terms of being bug and glitch free. If you like hard bosses you will not be disappointed with this game, especially the endboss, an endboss who truly feels like an endboss!

And in all competitive games i play, i am a 99th percentile player so it's hard for me to evaluate what is hard relative to the average player because i thrive in the landscape of brutal challenge..No pun intended XD

I did the same and then joined a brutal pve server. It's insane what they did on the cooperative side. You share everything. It's really nice!

Solo player here too. About the garlic thing, I really only got to use it only ~3 times because I didn't know about it until I randomly unlock it, but I was already on my way out of the farmlands and to Gloomrot. I wish, these consumables would drop in the forest, maybe at a boss, to help you get started with the next zone, and their mechanics. Edit: Found that you can actually get garlic potions in the forest, as some people had gotten them in the forest, like in those carriage events, which I also didn't know even exist. However, the drops are super low, so I just never got one until I unlocked it

Even if the game was a single player one, it would be worth every penny. The gameplay is fun and fluid, the spell variations are amazing. For me the ultimate end-game is building the beautiful castles! 10/10 game

Pro tip, you can find and mount a horse after leaving the tutorial zone. Makes travel a lot faster. Any horse unless claimed by another player can be mounted. I’m over 400 hours at this point. I did start with early access in 2022 though. With each update I would play through until the end. 1.0 added a lot.

IMO the main problem with the game is that it basically forces you to progress in a linear way despite pretending to give you freedom. There is zero reason to unlock the basic version of weapons such as the greatsword, pistols or whip so late into the game (ironically my favorite weapons). I would much rather have all weapons unlocked at a low level but then be able to upgrade them later similarly to jewels for spells. Same thing with the bosses, you would use a fun build and then just hit a brick wall with a boss that seems unbeatable, but then swap spells and beat late game bosses first try on normal and brutal difficulties. Shield spells are just too strong vs bosses with projectiles (especially chaos and condemn variants of the shield) and blood rage + power surge + double dash (veil of chaos) combo with greatsword is just too stupid easy how fast it melts bosses while still giving you the movement speed and dashes to dodge attacks. The game incentivizes you heavily to do things in a very linear way but becomes very fun later on after unlocking enough gear to make all builds viable.

I think you can make most builds viable without needing late game stuff. I think two of the ones you named are easy to pull off regardless of your circumstances, but I have come up with other builds that work well. I like having a counter of some kind just to fall back on but you would be surprised to see what a lot of the other spells can do especially with jewels

After re reading what I said I wanted to add that I get what you mean, there are def some stand out builds where it feels like they really expect you to change up your build to accommodate certain bosses and I have heard that complaint a lot it never feels fun to stop your head cannon because a boss is stupid

@@true_cyan9188 The cheesy build that I am currently using is corrupted skull with double projectile and exploding skeletons with mosquito that shields and heals allies and has more health, so I definitely agree with you that multiple builds can work. You could also brute force any boss with sheer skill, but at that point you are artificially ramping up the difficulty of your playthrough and most players won't be willing or able to do so. But don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the game and I think you did a great job with this review which I consider to be very accurate. I was just writing what I personally believe could be a potential downside for some.

@@exalted-champion-of-grinch I get you I get you, personally it has always upset me that the illusion spells are mostly support spells cause I felt like you could do some cool stuff with them thematically but as a solo player I can’t justify them really. The phantasm stacks are nice but I’m not sure if it makes up for it. My current build is the lighting counter and a sword, you block a bunch of people with it and it yanks them in close and summons the 3 orbs then you use the sword spin attack and you just ripppp through waves of enemies with it. The other spell it just what ever I feel fits, usually something to heal me

@@true_cyan9188 Yes, even the wraith spear and spectral wolf which are offensive illusion spells have heals as one of their powerups and it removes the weaken effect.

solo and PVE is worth it, and the pvp aspect can elevate it to the next level as well many pvp raiding games are trash in solo singleplayer, and V Rising is one of the few ones where this is not the case

Hell Ya! Im super excited for brutal but my friends are busy right now and we are supposed to start at the same time

i really wish they fix the storage system to be able to use resources as long as they are within range, it is a pain to always have to collect things from different chest to craft things, this is the only issue i have with this amazing game, worth every $

honestly if you get stuck on some bosses play on a v rising server with other people. sometimes a random person can help you. other times if you get stuck see if you can get enemies to attack the v boss. also pvp and pve server are quite different from one another. same with normal and brutal. honestly if you are new but like dark souls/eldon ring brutal maybe your bet. for me i am new and play pve normal on an official v rising server. also there are youtube guides and reddit suggestions if you get stuck. other than that focus on the themes of the bosses. act iii tends to have v bosses with adds they spawn you have to kill. so focus on ways to have fun. for me the servants help a lot, gardening, look for great v blood,seeking tips/tricks and if i get stuck watch a youtube video on the boss or read a reddit post. sometimes the youtube videos have more tips/tricks I didn't know.

you should definitely first complete the PvE before jumping into PvP and solo at that too, so you will have a general idea of what to do when you jump into a game with veteran players who will probably grief you at one point or another, if its for resources, a spot on the map or even simply because they dont like you. going blind into that seems like a good way to become frustrated with the game so you should definitely do it solo at least one time no matter the difficulty before jumping online. (personally im on the last boss now being Dracula and I skipped Simon because he only gives a whip and I dont like the whip, but I might defeat him too but only after I get a hang of Dracula)

Hey I just went and checked for you since I couldn’t find an answer online, on steam you can indeed play offline. Launched the whole game in offline mode and started a private server with no issue. I would imagine the same will be for PlayStation but I can’t promise anything

I agree with make of the points you make, however there's one that you kind of glossed over. The reason why souls games are viewed so highly in terms of difficulty is due to it seeming "fair" and balanced. There's so much human CC abilities and immunities that doesn't seem right in V rising. For example, boss immunity to your ability CC yet they will have 4 or 5 of these. Incapacitate, chill/freeze, stun and knock back being the ones I continually see.

Hmm ya I would love if the cc stuff would work on bosses but I understand why it doesn’t. I mean some bosses in elden ring are also immune to certain status effects. I think if they just added it directly it would be too broken imagine 4 of your friends just perma stunning or freezeing any boss, but I would love if there was some way for them to allow it

I'm with you here. The skill set door should be open to both boss and player. Boss should have slightly better gear / spells to elevate them, but the player shouldn't be such a peon by comparison. Noone has ever said bullet sponges are fun. Mechanics that can be countered by other mechanics is what makes ARPG's interesting. So stun-locking is a thing.Then make it where if two people come to fight Dracula, Dracula gets a powerful add that's meaningful to his story. Like Renfield for instance.

But while some bosses have some immunities in Elden Ring, in V rising it's all bosses being immune to everything, even when you out level them which really makes no sense. And it's not just bosses, there's basic enemies that don't feel right with their knock back and multiple CC they have against the player and as far as I can tell even the durations aren't shortened by being a higher level...

So, in offline mode, your still on a server? That isnt offline needing to be on a server. Im confused.

Sorry for the confusion, I was online on a server but offline play is a thing. You don’t need internet to play the game. I like playing online with friends even if we don’t interact much so we play on a server together

Ok. I love this game but i am just stuck in Act I because i can’t beat those bosses. Everyone says those bosses are super easy. Kind of discouraging. I love these kinds of games but i suck at boss fights i guess. I could get my own server. Are there admin commands and stuff where i could just cheat code the bosses and play the rest of the game?

You can play on a private game where you can pick the settings you want like teleport with items more floors. And yes there are mods for this game where you can activate the console and chat command mod where you can spawn 100% blood potions

Hey! No stress not everyone wants to spend a bunch of time learning a boss mechanic, I will warn you late game some of the bosses get pretty damn difficult. I highly recommend starting a private solo game and putting it on relaxed difficulty, I havnt tried it personally but I imagine it’s what you’re looking for, you can also change settings when ever you need on a private server so you can fine tune it to exactly what you need. I think there are settings specifically for boss fights too so hopefully you can set up something you will vibe with! Hope this helps!

That is most likely referring to the number of players on a server but even then that’s pretty high. If you set up a server for you and your friends you can have as many of them on there as you want I would imagine

I’m new to any rpg games. This looks & seems so awesome!! I would be a solo player for now. I just worry that the crafting & building can be difficult…is it pretty easy to learn? Just seems like a lot to the game which I don’t mind I just hope I’ll get hang of it

the building is super easy to get a hang of! its one of my favorite parts. the crafting is pretty straight forward too! i think its very easy to get into so long as hard bosses dont give you worry and even then you can make them easier!

im also wondering, because there are some abilities where they appear at where your mouse is so im not sure how they are gonna handle that. i trust the devs tho im sure they have worked out a good system!

gloomrot is pretty wild but its not too bad once you get over the difficulty hill

Solo on brutal difficulty is the only reason TBH. The communities on servers are geniunely good and its fun fighting bosses with people. Whether you get caught and rely on someone with 10% HP to play well or its all on you and everyones watching hoping you win. That being said. If you plah alone. Put the settings to brutal. It makes the game dark souls with base building
