I'm okay with people thinking TJ Maxx is sketchy... That leaves more for people like me who really just loves looking for good products and a great deal. The problem with TJ Maxx... The problem is people

Critics also need to understand what a privilege it is to be able to shop for high-end and luxury products at Sephora and Ulta. I am a hardcore makeup lover and TJ Maxx and Marshalls made high-end makeup accessible on my limited budget when I was in grad school. It's also better that overstock and discontinued items end up here rather than a landfill. I really love discount stores because I now live in country without them and I am forced to buy low quality products at full price because high-quality goods are not affordable. I love these videos because these store were my happy place when I lived in America.

Leah you are so right! Some people do act like the problem with open/used makeup is exclusive to TJ Maxx/Marshall’s. I went to Target last week for a NYX lip oil and every single one on the display shelf had a broken seal! This is a problem everywhere and you just have to be very aware. Love your vids as always! ❤

Exactly and that is extremely annoying who wants to take home someone else’s DNA these products although they may be inexpensive at some point they are not a Mac lipstick although it is eight dollars at TJ Maxx or marshals whereas $15-$14 at the Mac make up counter it’s still a price to pay.

As an employee for TJMaxx, I appreciate your great explanation. You hit the nail on the head. I’m happy to see customers looking through our new merchandise, less for us to put out, 😉and I know they will be getting an untouched product!!

I agree, as long as you shop smart, it’s totally fine to buy makeup at these stores.

Oh and I can confirm we have zero idea when anything is coming. We just get boxes and it’s just as big a surprise to us as it is to y’all. That’s kind of why I absolutely love my job! I work in the beauty department and omg it’s freaking fun stocking because I get my mystery box fix by just opening every box and sticking the shelves!!! I LOVE MY JOB!!!!

I thought I wrote a bigger comment but can’t find it. Anyways yeah I love my job and I bust my behind trying to organize the hell out of the beauty section all day. People are animals lol we put the spider wraps on the super expensive items right now. We don’t really have room for locked cases yet. I hope we don’t get that far. We are the top store in our region so we are a kick butt store and do everything we can to have the best of the best and our coworker hate those videos because they are so not true for all stores. (Again I love my job so much so I drive 98 miles round trip every day for work.) I love my job so freaking much!!!!❤️🩷💜🩵💚💙

My TJ Maxx store has an employee that does do that. It is really annoying and intrusive. She would constantly be asking if you needed help and would be right up in your space "stocking". The products ended up swatched and touched anyway, and honestly I've seen it happen even when she was on "patrol". I have never swatched a product, but she constantly made me feel like a criminal. Never mind the fact that I was buying stuff weekly too (definitely had an a TJ Maxx addiction for a while)😑

I love these TJMaxx hauls! At first I didn’t love that I saw makeup locked up but you make a good point about it being untouched. If I find a palette that’s not locked up, chances are that I’ll open it to inspect it and make sure no one has dipped their fingers in it. I feel bad even doing that but I’m not taking home anything that’s been messed with 😕

Those of us who shop there know how to do it. We also know that it is not just a second rate retailer. Some brands actually sell their products here, Marshalls n Nordstrom Rack as well.

Hi I love shopping at tjmax and Marshall’s and always shop there at least once a month there is always going to be bad reviews on any store and completely agree with you on if you are careful you can find great deals.

I absolutely love your videos and ESPECIALLY TJMaxx shop with me’s! Everyone is entitled to their opinion I guess. But I also love the chase of finding discounted makeup at a lower price point. You just have to use your best judgment.

Another great idea is to ask to open the product in front of the cashier to make sure it’s not broken or used. I’ve done that many times after being burned and getting used or broken products. The employees are more than happy to let someone look if they plan on buying an unused and I damaged product.

Yes - I mostly shop the stocking carts for beauty since I know that nobody has touched them. If I can’t shop the stocking carts, I do open what I want before buying to make sure nobody has messed with it 👍🏻 It’s a hassle, but it feels worth it when it costs so much less!

My store started locking things up and it annoys the crap out of me. And them having to walk it over to the register like I'm going to steal it is a no for me- there's a limit to what I'll tolerate. I'll only ask for makeup items when the manager who knows me is working, because he just hands it off to me.

It’s frustrating that shoplifters don’t have reprocussions anymore - it’s causing retailers to start locking up their merch since it’s becoming a free for all. 😡

TJMaxx is locking up many items and the price points to lock up merchandise has gotten lower. We as employees aren’t to happy about bringing all the locked merchandise up either. It’s a lot more work for us , inconvenient for the customer, and it takes our ability as employees away from the sales floor, so we aren’t free to possibly help other customers .It becomes more challenging to please our customers

My marshalls section is always wrecked but so is my walmart, target, ulta, sephora… i have returned a few makeup items to marshalls (only unswatched!- just didnt look as good once i got a better look at them) and the marshalls employee totally inspected it and i was glad and impressed and thanked them for doing it. I love shopping there still- you are right- just beware like everywhere:) 🧡👍🧡👍

I ❤ how you show pictures of items and not open them. I see so many influencers go to Target and open shower gels and deodorants and so forth to smell something that is not a tester. So people need to be careful honestly at any stores

I didn't know ppl had a problem with TJ Maxx. I love them. I buy their clothes & beauty products all the time. They're a discount store with rare gems, things aren't gonna be perfect. What do ppl expect🤨? I even buy their olive oils & sea salts. I buy everything from there. I love it❤

Also my store is putting the more higher end things in glass cases too. So that's awesome

Love your shop with me videos!! You know so much about the beauty lines and collections, and that's so helpful. I shop at Marshalls & TJ Maxx all of the time and run into the same issues, but I think it's OK some products are in the glass cases -- though totally agree that finding an employee can sometimes be cumbersome! You are spot on about grabbing the fresh stuff from the cart, especially when it's slow in the morning! BTW -- next time you see the Shiseido cotton packets GRAB IT! It's soooo good and so affordale at Marshalls/TJ Maxx! Love watching your content -- I wish you lived in LA so that we could hang out!!!! xx

Oh, and I forgot to mention in my TJ Maxx I’m in New York items that are on clearance (Red tags) are in acrylic casings also, they’ve done this at TJ Maxx, marshals, and Burlington. Whoever did this swatching and opening up of packages, damaging things, breaking eyeshadow palettes, etc. they are the ones that messed it up for everyone.

I honestly don’t know why Shane Dawson is getting reconnection on Makeup when he himself said he just jumped on the train for money. I’ve found so many amazing products at TJ Maxx 💛

For me personally the only time I open a product is eyeshadow palettes at tjmaxx because I have seen some that are broken I usually buy them after. The only other thing I opened was the glossier eyeshadow sticks because I couldn't tell the color so I opened it to look at the bottom.

I’m in California and some stores have been locking the makeup in the acrylic boxes. I don’t mind waiting, at least I know everything is clean and no fingers have tried them out! Now you have me wanting that pistachio perfume!!!!! Maybe I’ll see if Marshall’s has it. I don’t have a TJ Maxx in my town. I have to go at least 30 minutes to find one🌺🌺🌺

I was a little underwhelmed with Vanilla Potion too at first. My juice has gotten darker and sweeter since I let it sit and macerate. I like it so much more now and it’s great for layering.

My store doesn't put ANY makeup in those plastic boxes, so, honestly, I open something to see if it's broken or has been swatched (powder products only), but I'm super careful so I don't touch anything inside, like I work in a infectious disease lab or something 😆

I love the Mac Lash Dry mascara! It really does work and I also like to use it after applying whatever other mascara I am using. I let the regular mascara dry and then apply this after and it makes my lashes look so good!

I just found some untouched Kopari products at TJ Maxx, with all the clear packaging stickers and foil seals intact. If you are mindful of checking for these kinds of things, you can definitely score some great deals!

I will honestly say I do open packages as long as it can be opened nicely, but I never touch the product. I only look to see if it’s been touched or broken. I’ve done it while I’m at the register so that the cashier can see me do it they’ve never had a problem with it. I also see that this video has received 14,000 likes I’m not sure if I just never seen you receive that many likes on a TJ Maxx video because I didn’t pay attention or if this is the first time, either way congratulations on that. If I see a palette or something at TJM that I have any question about I just google it on my phone to make sure I know it is something I want and just ask the checkout person to open it quick before buying in case it’s smashed. This is how I avoid any need to be one of those people who open the boxes on the floor that ruin it for the rest of us.

Hi Leah! I recently picked up a fine fragrance mist from Marshall's last weekend here in Canada. I picked up one called Cocoa Vanilla Drop by English Laundry. It was not used whatsoever and with my research English Laundry is a high end designer brand. I also saw Beloved fine fragrance mists which I believe is a Target brand. Target no longer exists here in Canada. I've purchased Onyx body scrubs in the past and I've had no issues. We don't have TJ Maxx here, but we have very similar stores like Marshall's and Winners that sell the same products which is the equivalent to TJ Maxx. We also have HomeSense which is Home Goods in the U.S. You just have to be mindful and not pick up something that may looked used. It's just common sense.

Hi Leah, thanks for these videos. I am a fan of Pat McGrath and I found in June the Celestial nirvana palette, and there were a bunch of them brand new and untouched! They were as you said in a cart, ready to be shelved and they were like $35 when I payed mine e like 80 lol

I love tjmaxx and I always shop their because of their prices I'm a single mom taking care of my teenage boy by herself and low income with health issues. I simply can't afford high price makeup, clothes, and skincare

I don’t understand why people are commenting saying that it’s drama, it’s not drama. to purchase a $24 item and expect your item to have the four products that it states it has, only to find out when you get home there’s only three?, that is annoying. I cannot count how many Pat McGrath lipsticks that I purchase for $15 only to open up that lipstick when I got home and find that it was swatch!. For the individuals that are getting angry, I can bet any amount of money they are the “culprits“ and I’m going to say that confidently. I have made videos of my own showing products that I have paid $16 for or more, some at TJ Maxx or marshals even Burlington only to come home and find one of those Lippi’s are missing or someone’s swatched my fully purchased eyeshadow palette!, Now that is annoying. Extremely annoying. Swatching a lip gloss on your risk as well as lipsticks is unsanitary, and I have seen people do that. I have seen people take hairspray and spray their hair on the floor and then put the cover back on the can or bottle and put the item back on the shelf. If people want to behave unruly, then they need to suffer the consequences and repercussions and if they don’t like it, go someplace else, go to Macy’s and shop, go to Sephora where you can swatch all day long. I'm not going to say when this acrylic casing all began, but I'm sure everyone knows 😒

Our stores (TJ/MarshallsRoss) put their makeup into individual plastic cases. If you want to see what a pallet looks like an associate will show you.

I’ve been finding a lot of Pat McGrath. I just got the Divine Rose Eternal Eden quad, several different blushes, the Sublime Skin Highlighting trio, and some really beautiful lipsticks including Peep Show and Full Blooded. I also found a five pan eyeshadow palette from her Star Wars collection. I was really excited to get three bottles of Vanilla Potion. I’m hoping to find some MIIM.MIIC fragrances.

Around us opened makeup is a lot bigger issue at Walmart and Target. I come across it a bit in T.J Maxx…but Walmart is a nightmare. And it’s not just opened, but it’s completely messed with too. It’s to the point I won’t really even buy anything in store anymore.

The TJMaxx that I usually go to started locking up their expensive makeup and perfume. It so irritating because I can never find any employee to unlock the item🙄 So, I found another TJMaxx that was 45 minutes instead 10 minutes away from my job( I usually go to TJMaxx after work) so, I started going to that TJMaxx. It was awesome!! Nothing was locked up and they had a huge variety of makeup!! So, I am excited to have found a new TJMaxx, just in time for Christmas.

Your lucky ,my store locks up perfume, mens cologne on the men’s side , skin care, hair tools, of course handbags and certain coats too

I currently work at T.J.Maxx and I can 100% attest to people swatching merch and then putting them back like nothing ever happened.. also I find At least 2-3 stolen beauty items each day I work…. I mean honestly the store is already disconnected as is is…. If you don’t have the money to shop here don’t!!! Leave the merch for those who want to shop!! Another thing is at some stores the associates get mad when people are all up in there way when there trying to work but at the end of the day what can you do!! I love working here because I get early access to all the good deals, brands and discounts!!
