It's 1994. I regularly walk to the neighborhood grocery store to rent movies and games. They announce a contest where the winner gets a ton of coupons for getting the high score on a New Game -- which ends up being this game. Proud to say I walked away with one of those arm-length tubes of flavored popcorn and enough free rentals to last me a month.

@Sandman Slim It was a full-size grocery store, local owned in northeast Oklahoma. Bill's Discount Foods is long gone now but they had an impressive little video store section in the corner of the store. The guy that I most often dealt with at the counter would also give me photocopies of new Game Genie codes when they came out.

It's hard to say with this game because Malibu was based out of California but they hired a lot of british developers.
@peterbard1815

@@CarozQH I would say that, broadly speaking, what applies to US developers also applies to Euro developers. Western games in general always had a look and feel to them that was distinct from the games coming out of Japan.

@@peterbard1815 I think what really differentiated US and Euro games was the music. If it's full of arpeggios, it's probably from over here on the demoscene continent. And if it's full of obscure humour that only about four people fully understand, it's British.

5:04 That's a rather cool section because the helicopter is smoothly tilting/rotating, but it's not using Mode 7 so it's doing this along with a full background layer (thankfully, as basic or missing backgrounds is one of my pet peeves when Mode 7 is used for boss battles and the like in a bunch of SNES games), as well as the nice perspective effect on the ground using line scrolling. It works well visually for me.

I agree wholeheartedly. A nice game based on a short-lived TV series. The Genesis port didn't get released also because Malibu went belly-up. But the music was definitely top notch in that version alone.
I loved this show as a kid (in Sweden, where it was also aired), I used to record and rewatch episodes on VHS. Never knew it had a game back then though.
Great video. Was looking for a succinct explanation about this game, as I just found out about the Megadrive version with the Tim Follin soundtrack.

I was one of the very few teens in my classroom that loved the show and I enjoy the SNES game as well. Solid review SNES Drunk.
Looking back at the early 90s it amazes me how many tv shows I completely missed out on. I must have been too busy hanging with friends, playing video games or doing my homework/studying for school that I have no memory of this show. Looked up the intro for the show and it looks like a show I would have watched back then. It's like Quantum Leap meets Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman with almost a Forever Knight cool/badass vibe to it. Seriously, look it up. It's one of the weirdest, yet awesome, and most early 90s things I've ever seen.
I want to thank you for making this video and hope you have a great rest of your day

I used to love this show!! (Greetings from Chile)
Crazy! I had no idea they made a game based on that show. I used to watch it every Saturday night with my dad, and was actually quite into it at the time. It's a show I've never bothered returning to though, and haven't thought about it in years.

I've only listened to the amazing Genesis soundtrack but I might play the game now if not for curiosity! Tim Follins is greatest retro game western composer IMO.
Omg be brought up Jeremy Jordan! I Wanna Girl by Jeremy Jordan was my favorite guilty pleasure back then haha 🕺🏻
That moment when they talk about Chile...
Hey, he finally covered it! I left a comment about it months ago. It was a decent show (if you enjoy campy serials like Knight Rider) and the game even got a spread in one issue of Nintendo Power.
I grew up with the show and the game on the SNES and they are both highly underrated. I met Dale Midkiff at a con in 2019 and he was surprised that they was a game when I showed him my SNES cart of it
I remember really liking this show and since then always named the time machine in Crono Trigger, Trax.
I was a big fan of the show at the time, and I remember reading about the game in Nintendo Power. I'm glad to hear the game was worth a play through.

Wow, a SNES game I've never heard of based on a TV show I'd never heard of. It's weird because I was into both Kung Fu and Babylon 5 back then and this show sounds like something I'd watch. Thanks for expanding my horizons!
A screenshot is on the box! That's seems quite rare.
Torgo! Nice reference!
I found a copy of this game that was clearly a rental originally complete with manual that was taped into a plastic case and what I think I remember being stickers on the actual game itself. But it was dirt cheap and I was like yeah this looks cool. Luckily most people don't know how much super Nintendo games are worth these days.
