I would think so too but some people have expenses that are high enough that a million in deposit must be hard to reach.

the idea is for someone who has money in another bank and wants to try out their bank but doesnt wanna leave the other bank. lets say soemone with 10 mil net worth but currently its all with goldman sachs and has salary of 500k a year. couts isnt gona turn him/her down cuz theres potential.

Interestingly I've learned a lot about Coutts products recently and agree with your thoughts vs Centurion in the UK. The silk card does come on Charge or Credit format, I know people with both (for some reason). The charge with silk actually still does have a set limit, but it's recommended for those who will need SUPER high limits, far beyond what even they would offer unsecured on a credit card.

You literally dont know anyone with a higher charge card limit than credit card. They are different products but both expose the bank (In this case, the publicly owned, and government bailed out RBS to the same exposure per client) quit your BS grandstanding and actually add something of value to the conversation, except, as in your case, pure fantasy.

You should talk about how in New York now merchants are allowed to charge an extra 4% on credit cards basically destroying all rewards....

Honestly seems like a good card especially for higher net worth individuals.

My friend has a coutts account, and whilst the silk card doesn’t have an annual fee, there is a charge of I believe £900 annually for a current account, so it is arguably not exactly cheap to have the credit card!

Sounds like this is to Coutts as, say, the Sapphire Preferred is to Chase with some perks. Low perks cards from an exclusive bank. Like you said, those who are with this bank don't really care about points like us plebes 😭😭😭

I got the Barclaycard Platinum Credit card (U.K version). It gives me a tiny bit of cash back and doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees. And I got it at a fairly young age if I’m honest which was unexpected.

Is it just me or is this more worth it than a premium card with Annual Fees? Yes, the deposit range is quite high but imagine the perks that it will then offer you minus the fees that you would have to pay annually. The J.P. Morgan Reserve and Amex Centurion are prestigious cards to have but this one is good for the thrifty yet wealthy people.

The AMEX Centurion has a 5K initiation fee with a 2.5K AF. Year 1 is 7.5K and subsequent years are 2.5K.

I thought that the coutts card was really hard to get as they don't sign clients up just because they have lots of wealth. What I read was that you had to be of title or from old money or famous to qualify for an account?? Also that there was only 100 silk card accounts available at any one time??

It’s not that hard to be accepted, I’ve just got private & business banking with a credit card with them.

I herd the Scotiabank offers a credit card better than the Canadian amex centurian card. This their Platinum amex card. Yes Scotiabank has amex cards.

Not anymore. It’s been raised to $695 USD. Gonna dump it at my annual renewal.

Invest 1 million to have £85,000 protected. Better of keeping it simple and putting 1 million plus into NS&I which protects 100%

If its actually invested then you dont get the deposit guarantee anyway, it's only cash balances that are eligible.

Ccutts is not the most exclusive in uk. Trying opening an account with C Hoare and Co. The oldest bank in the uk, still owned by same family. Coutts is new money. C Hoare is old money.

Coutts isn’t new money as it has been around for hundreds of years but of course they are trying to attract celebrity type individuals at the present day as the aristocracy and old money is dying out. Of course the bank you mentioned is older but not as prestigious or as socially desirable as Coutts similar to Eton and Winchester. Winchester is older and the first public school in England but definitely lesser in prestige than Eton even though it’s prestigious it’s considered less posh than Eton even though it’s older and more academically successful it’s not as preferable amongst the social elite
