For everyday commuter, it's the better choice

Dont sleep on these cars, rear biased awd system, and BMW really underrates them from the factory. Some of these cars are pushing there factory power figures to the wheels. With a downpipe and flex fuel these cars are hitting well over 500whp and close to 700wtq

The B58 is an amazing engine. I have an X3 M40i (Xdrive) and absolutely love it. It's the has all, do all car. Practical, fast, off roads and all the options I have make it great for highway/semi autonomous driving too. The B58 is an engineering marvel...

BMW have really upped their 3 series range the past year with this and the M3 Touring. I just hope that the so-called replacement coming in a few years will not be like that I Vision D.E.E. 🤞

BMW already announced that they will not be developing any more purely gasoline M cars. The current generations are the last iterations. I hope that's not true......

​@@Dragoneer in a standard color (let's say carbon black) it looks almost like any other 3 series. Fitting the definition of sleeper quite well 🙂. I have a 440i Gran Coupe and most people won't tell it apart from a 420i or something like that.

@@Dragoneer a sleeper doesn't have to look slow - that's not the definition. It just can't look "fast". A 420i does 0-100kph in 8s flat which is far from fast. An M340i looks like a regular 3 saloon, but it goes like a 911 GT3. It does fit the bill nicely.

Have to disagree on this one. Those fake amg's are trash. Has AMG in its name but less power, worse looks.. U only buy the 53 when u don't have the money for a 63. For the m340 tho, its just a 3 series with some m genetics. It's for the people not wanting a full fledged sports car, but a fast comfortable one.

No the GLE53 is absolutely the slowest AMG you can possibly buy. The GLE63 does a 0-60 in like 3.5, but the 53 does it in 5.8. Not even close

I don't know who does the claiming at BMW HQ because they seem to be quite pessimistic to what it truly does in reality. Like 3.81 secs in those conditions and they claimed it to be 4.4 secs. I assume it would be a marketing strategy maybe. At least they are lying in a good way if that's the case.

That's the problem, it's too good! I have a 2021 xdrive lease that I'm giving back next year but I don't know what to replace it with. It's still the best car at this price point 3 years later

I have a 540i xDrive its just soo beautiful with awd.

Having driven this car, No you certainly don't need an M3. This car is perfect in very way, Although it does come at a pretty steep price....

Unless you track your car....it's really hard to justify a M3 over this car

Agreed, and when you take into account the massive insurance premiums, maintenance cost and repair costs of the m3…as well as the pretty brutal ride quality, the m340i is an infinitely better daily driver. And it doesn’t have the ugly ass front grill lol

A mate from Paramed School (I chose that over the Military service here in Switzerland, both obligations for men btw) had a white 340i with black trim levels, gorgeous car. Retailprice 100k! He took me for a spin and man that thang moves haha. Our Major once caught us driving rather quick onto the training ground after lunch break and had the urge to give us a lecture about safe driving as First Responders haha. Good times XD

I've been of the opinion for a while, that if you want something that more closely resembles an early M3, get a 340i. Actual M3s have become to powerful and too track focused. It's suppose to the be the ultimate driving machine, not the ultimate track machine. But I'll never drive either so I could be wrong.

These days, the differentiation in performance models, comes from handling characteristics. BMW still won't give you that sweet LSD unless you buy an M... Or pay a fortune as an option

I'm seeing in BMW's configurator that the the M340i comes with an eLSD as standard just like every M-Performance car. Did you mean to say that the differential in the M cars is different?

@@xIcarus227 e-LSD is just the ABS pump and ECU working together to hold the brake on the inside/wheel with least traction. In principle, they do the same job. However, the better option is a mechanical LSD through use of gears, as it's instantaneous and consistent. That's what the true M cars have.

So how much more torque does it build in Launch Control vs regular rated power? That's gotta be what's happening, right? Rated for continuous 380lb-ft or whatever it is, but in launch control mode, makes 20% more for 10 seconds?

That b58 engine xdrive in any model, ecu map, limiter removed its all the power you will ever need, on the road anyway.

The M3 handles significantly better, that's the biggest difference, it's much more enjoyable on a country road blast, however they are more annoying to live with as a daily due to more noise, ride comfort and running costs.

It's a fantastic car (I have one) but the M3 will be another level to drive. I came from a Giulia Quadrifoglio and that makes the M340i feel like a clown car around the corners in comparison.

I wouldn't bet on it being much different seeing as a good AWD system should put 370HP down pretty well even in the rain, but who knows.

I’m a fan of track days or I was before the economy bit me! But I think you genuinely don’t need a m3 as a daily car and the 340 is more than enough. You can never unleash these cars fully on the road anyways so being a grumpy sod what’s the point! Think I’d go 340 240 all day long.

I just raced the exact same car here in the States 🇺🇸 and I smoked him in my new Tesla Model 3 Performance and his ride had upgraded exhaust and God knows whatever else he did to his brand new car. He has paper plates on his BMW M340i. I told him at the next red light to put it in Sports Plus and to turn off the traction control for better grip. The roads were dry at the time. I can beat an M3 too up to 100mph. But guess what?? I’m don’t with this new Tesla because it’s fast and it updates all the time and that’s cool believe me. I want to buy a 2023 M340i because the Tesla like I said is fast but it’s soulless believe me. No sound, no shifting just damn pure speed. Thanks for this video!! Sometimes speed isn’t everything. 😎

@@vikinnorway6725 I agree. I had a brand new 2010 BMW M3 and then a 2013 BMW 335i M and the M3 was amazing and the thrill dropped instantly I got my next BMW and that was the 2013 335i M model. Look I like sounds as much as the next guy. I had a 1971 Pontiac GTO with a 455 and that thing was a beast. Now my only question would be then why do people in their, say Nissan GTR, BMW’s, Mercedes Benz, Subaru WRX STI’s keep wanting to race and beat or try and beat an electric car all the time?? Would you ever race one? Have you ever raced against a Model 3 Performance or a Tesla Plaid? Just curious.

@@tomgunc i had a model 3 performance. In norway teslas is the most common car. 75% of new sold cars are electric. I mean it was fun for like 2 weeks, but the tesla was really bad built, not driving but for the eyes, gaps and loose parts all over. I have never raced one no but has "raced" the tesla yes. It just aint the same imo. My car before the tesla was an N54 e92 with single turbo, got more pleasure from that one. Now i have a m340i xdrive. But i dont race really, getting older maybee😆

I'm sorry, I daily a G80 M3CX. It consistently hits 2.95sec verified 0-60. M340 is nice, but I do need my M3...

X3M is the ultimate sleeper.

369bhp, 4WD and a fast changing ZF gearbox will obviously give the car a low 0-60mph. Why is this a surprise to so many people? I had a Golf R 7.5 Estate on a cheap lease and that did a 4.1 in the rain. Gutless when rolling though. A kerb weight of 1,670kgs isn't going to do the BMW any favours when it rolling though...

Maybe add a tenth of a second so 3.9 seconds or 4 seconds still faster than their claims of 4.4

In normal condition : Launch Control Disabled and it will be 4.5 instead of 3.8!

@@layne4376 Launch Control is a marketing tool that artificially boost performance (and gives you impression that your car has more power) just in drag race conditions. It is not recommended to use LC if you don't want to destroy your gear box. In real life (or doing 1-60 instead of 0-60) 99,9% of accelerations are performed without Launch Control. This channel gives you real measurements with and without LC: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dYqMr5lxo7Cen7Q.html Latest generation of LC can lower 0-60 time to 1 second so it becomes LC instead of engine competition. All car makers (except manual gear box or Tesla since they have no gear box) claim the 0-60 under LC conditions which is a big fake. About Carwow they are well known for tricking 0-60 times by changing some elements (like add winter tires) on cars they want to lower the performance.

This must be a tuned press car, stock it takes longer to 60
