I worked for Fiat from 99 to last year and remember these coming into service when I started at 17, I loved them, my first demo was a 1.4 Tipo with a super chip!! Thought I was the bees knees!!! Fiats back then we’re special, 20VT, Punto GT, Bravo HGT. Love my Coupes!!

I still drive 1989 Tipo 1.8 dgt, such a great car. Only 112.000km for 34 years.

I really like the format of featuring cool Italian cars and their owners.

Drove this to Brooklands for Chris this year as my Uno Turbo wasn’t ready… boy was I not disappointed!! Absolutely amazing car and handles like it’s on rails. I’d buy one in a heartbeat but sadly it’s impossible to find a good 3-door. A very rare classic that doesn’t yet get the recognition it richly deserves

My first car was a 1.9 diesel turbo. I loved it. The digital dash was cool... Miss you F100GMA 😢

I think I am qualified to have an opinion on the Uno Turbo Vs Tipo 16v debate, since I had, new, in 1990 a black Uno Turbo, replaced in February 1993 by a silver Tipo 2.0ie 16v. 5 door. The Uno had replaced a Golf GTI, E reg. The Tipo was a much better and more capable car than the Uno, and I thought better than my Golf GTi, with the Tipo also more reliable than either the Uno or Golf. I kept the Tipo for over 5 years and 80000 miles, and still consider it one of the best cars I ever had!

We had a tipo sport abarth in the 90s what an epic car that was, fun to drive, different to everything else around an surely the most reliable fiat ever built as it never let us down even the day we towed a caravan, 2 adults and 2 kids with all the stuff for a two week holiday to the top of Sutton bank hill (1 in 4 gradient) without skipping a beat..sold it to fund a new car and never stopped regretting it.

Owned 2 5 door Sedicivalvoles in the 90's. Drove a 3 door and it's power delivery wasn't as aggressive as the 5 door cars. I think the 3 door made less power weirdly. BMC cone filter made the 16v engine sound awesome on full chat.

I love these - very underrated. Sadly I’ve never driven a Sedicivalvole, but I have driven the 8v 2.0 GT. I had an Alfa 145 (same platform, and actually, almost same column stalks - although the Tipos were illuminated, which was very cool!) at the time, and in some ways, the Tipo was the better drive.

The 3 door design worked so well. Should have been more popular. I couldn't stretch to the Tipo 1.4 i.e so went for a new Punto. Wasn't long after that I bought my first integrale. Still own an evo2 which only cost me 11k back in the day!

Friend has a 5dr model with same package, super rare and one of the nicest Fiats that world has missed totally!

I had an M reg Mk2 Tipo 1.4ie 5 door for many years until last December when it was finally scrapped, bought from Perry’s Ford in Milton Keynes 1 year old ex-rental. It was a great car, really well styled interior and fantastically practical, it was used as a building utility vehicle for years and the stuff it could carry inside, on the roof and pull behind in a trailer was unreal. My Brava is much less interesting and practical, more ‘modern’ plastic interior with really slow reclining seats, boring switchgear and dials etc. although the bodyshell and doors are much stronger. The Mk2 3 door Sedicivalvole was toned down in looks and performance from the 5 door Mk1, the Tipo in general was a much better car than the awful Escorts and average Astras of the era, it was very much a budget Golf with real Italian panache.

Used to have a 1.4 dgt but always wanted a sedicivalvole. Was offered one as a trade for my old hf turbo ..regretted not doing the trade. My first car was an x1/9 ...love Italian cars

Had a Tipo 2.0 sedicivalvloe 92 (j) in sliver 5 door and externally modified it,as you said put a induction kit on and it sounds awesome mine sounded like a Impreza,loved that car nobody knew what they were back then 😅 I now have a 16v turbo coupe in yellow that needs some tlc.thanks guys 👍

Way better looking then any golf at the time,and you heard it beat Renault 5 turbos so nuf said and sounds lovely needs a cold air intake not just a cone will loose power and soak up warm air. I owned one I lowered it on Eibach springs put a k&n filter in it it spanked a few 16v golf Gtis most people don't realise it shared an engine with the integrale but without the turbo. Great memories.

The Mk3 Golf Gti was a proper pudding, the worst Golf ever made. A Mk2 Golf G60 in the 80's was a much better, higher quality, faster, and better handling car than this Fiat.

My dad had a brand new one in 1991 in metallic red , always loved it as a 9 year old , loved it so much I bought one myself in 2012 , a 92 white 5 door , had to get rid due to divorce threats but loved it to bits

As driven by Inspector Montalbano. We had two basic types of these for family use, 5 door; endless room inside. One was written off by ramming a pick-up's tow-ball at 2 mph. 😕

Had a 5 door back in year 2000 to replace my uno turbo(why?)Fitted a k&n and it sounded superb. Regretted parting with the uno though as the tipo was just a bit too big and cumbersome and imo boring (other than engine note) Kept it for a year and replaced with a low mileage integrale evo 2 for £15k !!!

Definitely cooler than a mk3 gti

Chris was great, has the bug for fiats like me, every other car bores me these days! Need to get my punto gt back on the road…

my mum had a white 1.4 Tipo back in 93 , I had a DGT later when I could drive , I use to take the receptionist at work out in it for a quickie , the seats recline really quickly 🤣🤣🤣

my cousin has 2 16v,s sedicivalvole (5 doors} both been off the road a few years, one has been used for a few years on welsh road rallies

I actually messaged you on Instagram and said i'd love put a Busso 24V in a Tipo and call it a Ventiquattrovalvole , you should definitely get one done , be mega nose heavy but would sound ace. You should call the lounge the Sportivo eXpresso just to trigger Chris 😁😁😁

Me and my missis had a red 16v back in 1999 to 2002 sold it and got a mk3 golf vr6

I had a blue one back in1993. Best fun car i have ever owned. Id love to find one forsale in the UK

People often under appreciate cars like this because hatchback makes them think of not luxurious and “cheap”, but think of the love and dedication that the designers of this car put into it. Very good cars.

Just had a flash back to 90s when lancia dealerships disappeared these 16v ran same brakes as my debra. Back b4 u needed a chassis number form parts just walk in pad n discs 4 a tipo please . Probably filtered alfa 155 aswell.

The Tipo is much bigger and also a bit heavier than a Golf from the same year. When the Tipo Sedicivalvole was compared to other hot hatchbacks by a magazine it came last, but dont remember any of the other cars. Mazda 4-wheel drive? Opel Kadett GSI 16 valve CX20E ? All of them smaller, more of 2-seaters unlike the roomy Tipo.

My mum had one in black, suffered from torque steer but a great car apart from that

What does the engine look like?

I had a pre-cat 1991 black version in 1994, sounded nicer, felt fast 0-60 7.9, 0-100 22 secs.

They are massively underrated, & were as good, if not better than the equivalent Golf GTi in most respects, although the standard chassis was a bit woolly, & the steering a bit rubbery.. Its great how interchangeable Italian cars were, & mostly, still are, especially from a modding perspective! Theres nothing stopping you putting integrale running gear into.. well, just about any Type 3 or 4 car, (I wanna do a Tempra estate Integrale!) Or putting a 5 cylinder Coupe Turbo lump in a Tipo, or a Busso into a Dedra.. Another one I`d like to do is Y10 Turbo lump into a Panda! The chat was enjoyable & chilled, so I`m looking forward to seeing more! (I`d REALLY like to see the Argenta BTW! I had a bronze B-reg one back in the early 90`s, & still have bits of it knocking about in the garage for some reason!)

Must hard to see or I Neve see one on 2 doors , please please try to find fiat tempra 94 turbo ei ,did won one won was 19 fir short time because engine blows up on me 😭 now I em 35 and been in uk for 15 years never see one about anymore 😢

Dont know if you were kidding or not, but I was in my 30's before i realized it wasnt "expresso" either....it feels like it should be expresso because it sounds like something you drink quickly "al volo" as its small and speeds you up, but if you asked me to spell it i definitely would have spelled it correctly, so i guess its just a common mental block that results from growing up in an English speaking country...luckily it wasnt on camera that i realized it (an American friend had to tell me lol)...

I like the Fiat Tipo Sport in White 3DR but I Prefer the 5DR Fiat Tipo DGT Turbo Diesel 1.9 Diesel Cars. My Uncle had a Fiat Tipo in Navy Blue but the Engine Blow up I think the Head Gasket Must of gone I don’t know but it was a Lovely Car to Ride in & My Uncle Gary Brown had a Fiat Uno as well which I think I saw one time in Blue or Black in 3DR or 5DR. I love ❤ To own the Fiat 132 Argenta / Fiat 131 Miraflori & 131 Supermiraflori & All the Fiat Croma 1985 Cars Croma CHT / Croma IE / Croma SX & Croma T.D Diesel I’d like to own one Day in my Name including The Tipo / Tempra / Bravo / Brava / Marea / Uno 5DR in Petrol & Diesel.

Can really relate to wanting to have a car that nobody else has. Originality and good taste goes hand in hand with Fiat ownership. The amount of car shows I’ve been to and there are zero old fiats is quite sad, but they are niche for a reason, because only a small fraction of the population appreciate them for the great, raw, experimental cars they are. I’ve had a Bravo, three X/19’s, 2 currently, and a punto gt. Have you got rid of the shitty little Ford yet?!

Well I have to say that been better than a 1990s golf gti is not really a big achievement. The 1990s Mk3 golf gti was an utter lemon. However these like its predecessor the Arbath Strada 130 TC. were relatively unknown great cars.

Better than a golf ? No.

Just because a car is rare, doesn't not automatically make it 'good'. These were awful things, shoddy quality, nasty interiors, unreliable, not great handling despite being the very highest spec special edition of the model. The 'platform' it shared, had the same common crap handling for all of the Alfa's and other Fiat's which used the same chassis.

Yeah a car nobody’s heard of or ever seen, looks that bad and is worth about £4 is much better than a Mk2 Golf Gti 🤣
