Today, Griff and I sit down and do a quick overview of a rod that we gave been playing with recently and that is the Daiwa Steez AGS 7'4 rod!

    This rod with the long handle is absolutely amazing for mat crashing heavy mill foil, coontail, pond weed, etc. I Matt crash 1-1.5 oz tungsten weighted t-rigs through some heavy Matts and this is the best rod that I have ever used for that method.

    What do you actually(honestly) notice vs like a Tatula XT that justifies the cost??? Daiwa gives you allot for your $$$ ime even in the entryish level rods. Daiwa makes JDM rods with their TOTL full cabon seats and full carbon blanks that go to $500(guess that’s what Steez costs now). They’re popular with nighttime Japanese Rock fisherman. The Zillion rods are kick ass for the $$$. I just got a MegaBass Leviathan that I’m gonna use for swim baits only and I’m looking for a dedicated frog rod. Thanks allot🙏💪

    @@ryanjofre Saying sensitivity is substantially better would be an understatement. At 30’ deep with a 15 knot wind and 1/4oz weight on a soft bite the difference is 0-3 bites felt vs every bite felt. In every aspect of the rod, except guide durability (though I’m yet to break the newest version AGS guide) the Steez has a chasm between it and the Tatula XT or any of the Tatula rods. While I do agree that for the price Daiwa rods entry level, along with Shimano, Megabass, Falcon, a few other USDM rods, Major Craft and most JDM rods are significantly better than the rest of field, but it seems to me that the higher end stuff is less noticeable while fishing. There are fewer, and in some instances with specific rods there are no, frustrations. My line of thinking is, just like with any tool for any job, a crescent wrench will turn most bolts but an impact makes it infinitely easier, much less frustrating and significantly more efficient. To take it another step, within that, a specific type of impact is needed for specific jobs and not all impacts are built the same. Same with rods, reels, line, baits, terminal tackle, etc. There is a level of refinement, for lack of a better description, in the Steez (whether JDM or US versions) that is lacking once you go below the Black Label series. *Side note: I get that the Zillion lineup is supposed to be its replacement (at least for the USDM, but from the ones I’ve used, they’re not as smooth or crisp as the Black Labels. Not knocking the Zillions by any means, they’re great rods just more so signing the praises of the Black Label and Steez. The Zillions across the board seem to be slightly more parabolic and less crisp. The Black Label lineup might be one of the most underrated lineups ever made and do not get the love they deserve.* For most anything, the things that separate great from elite are usually a combination of micro improvements over many areas. It seems to me, that this is the case with many (but not all) higher end technique specific (emphasis on technique specific but with the caveat of the manufacturer’s listed/recommended techniques aren’t necessarily the specific technique the rod shines at at) rods, in that there are no glaring holes in any area. In most cases there are concessions and sacrifices made to get a specific material to a specific action, power, overall weight, etc in at a particular price point. This is not the case with the current iterations of the Steez lineups. They checked off all of the boxes. All of that said, if money is a factor and I was looking for an all purpose frog rod, the 7’4” H Tatula XT is where I’d start and from there go to the Rebellion if I could afford it. In terms of value, though it isn’t a true high end rod, I think (emphasis on I think) the Shimano Expride 7’3” XH is the best all around frog rod on the US market.

    Luis showed me that rod yesterday, I opt for a Jackall instead because I've had durability issues with Diawa rods in the past. Love the reels, bought a Zillion yesterday too. But I've had 1 Tatula Elite snap & another tip break with minimal use. You're shop & staff was a great experience. Highly recommend.

    Theoretically I can see why it would be the most sensitive because of the stouter tip. Less vibration being absorbed when dragging verse your softer tip rods. I do have the same version in old tatula ags and it is a great jig rod. Not sure if that tip is same as the steez ags but there was a little tip on it.

    It cracks me up at guys that buy high end rods for frogging. Sincetivity doesn't matter. Power and give so you can cast it easily is what matters. I use a $49 Academy composite rod. 3/8 - 1 heavy power fast action and it is the best frog rod I've ever had. 😂

    I've been struggling to find a rod that has the backbone to handle punching 3/4-1oz weights through milfoil and pulling the bass out of it while also being responsive and sensitive and not "mushy". It's difficult at times to differentiate between a soft bite and just resistance from the cover with a mushy rod. This rod looks like it may be the ticket.

    I have two Steez AGS rods, and I want to use them more so bad... but I freaking hate the lock nut on this rod. It's way too big and messes with my index finger. A lot of reels just feel goofy on the reel seat because of it too. At this point it's something that's just distracting while fishing, probably sell them both and get more P5s (already got 6 of those, might as well add to collection) If this series had locknuts like the P5s it would be GG... so good.

    Steez isn’t the same as it used to be . The old XBD is still the god father of frog rods ! The new steez doesn’t have the iT factor . I have all the original steez rods and a few of the new ones . The punching rod is good , bottom contact is a little to stiff in the tip and the frog rod along with all of hers in the new steez line up is uncomfortable due to the reel lock but .Diawa should have used a better system in this yo make it more comfortable. I ca. punch all day with my original complie x’s and 802 steez harrier but the new compile x after a bit of use will numb your pointer finger on the lock nut . Steez ags gen 2 is not worth the price . Also unlike original steez rods these aren’t made in Japan . In my opinion all of Diawa’s high end gear should have “ made in Japan “ on it .

  • @thehookuptackle_usa

    @thehookuptackle_usa

    Жыл бұрын

    I would disagree with almost everything - but that’s why choices and options are good 👍. I find the bottom contact way too soft in the tip, this frog Rod exponentially better than the XBD and I love the lock downs 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • @user-xm8rf6ik7b

    @user-xm8rf6ik7b

    Жыл бұрын

    @@thehookuptackle_usa to soft in the tip wow . As for the frog rod the xbd is a much better built rod . Double footed guides all the way up much cleaner more sophisticated build , the new ags rods are ugly in comparison. Also having had a lot of ags rods I can say the guide system is brittle and they do break , dealing with Diawa’s new customer service is horrible . The new steez line leaves a lot to be desired . But I do tend to disagree with a lot of your choices in rods and baits . It very obvious that you and your crew are fanboys . I tend to lean twards the products that actually preform and have a better build quality vs what’s new and trendy . If you pay $500+ for a rod it should be exceptional, the new steez line isn’t . The punch rod is decent and a huge improvement over the blue ags 8’ but it still have that horrible lock nut . For diawa the best heavy mat punching rod they ever built was the 8’ zillion . Strong , decent sensitivity and power . That rod was almost perfect . If daiwa could blend that with the new compile x they would have something. But im from California fishing the delta , what do I know about fishing heavy cover and needing quality rods that work and last .
