    Thanks for your videos. I’ve learned a lot. I notice that you leave many of your stumps cut high. Is there a reason for this?. Do you plan to remove them at any point?

    Looks like the woods needs logged. The trees you girdled are marketable timber. Why waste them?

    Great question. Having a logger come in to take the trees we want down was our first and preferred option. We had several different loggers walk the property, they said they would do it but none were too excited since we primary have red oak which is just sitting in piles at the local mills (prices down). And this property is surrounded by swamp / river so there is no way to access the area with the mature trees without coming down our paved driveway. The revenue from the sale of the trees would not cover the cost to replace / repair the 500 yard driveway so we opted to not to have the property logged. Too much hassle and we might end up losing money depending on the damage to the driveway. The girdled trees, along with the other trees on the ground, will not be wasted. We burn wood all winter long to heat out home. As we need more wood we knock down more trees to split.
