Is this the fastest way to snow plow? Plowing with a broom on a John Deere 1585 (1500 series)

I have a JD 1500 series front mount mower, the 1585 with AWD, that I purchased a snow thrower, 72" rear discharge mower deck, and a HD 60" broom with...I find I almost always use the broom for snow removal. The broom allows me to travel at a fast speed but it starts to get overwhelmed if the snow is 4" deep or more, so, sometimes it requires multiple times out plowing.
The broom is gentle on the driveway, but I would not recommend for gravel driveways as it will remove your gravel quickly. As a bonus, the broom is very handy to clear leaves with in the fall.
Take a look for yourself and see what you think. If we start getting tons of snow I will put a video up of the snow thrower too.

Why have I never even heard of a snow broom until now? Thing is pretty rad!

A pusher is good too, especially for parking areas, for my long driveway it might fill quickly. I have a blade too, but I had several instances of scaring the asphalt when a shoe fell off

Yeah, I honestly never would have thought about a broom for this application either, but makes total sense. Great video! Love the drone shots!

Just like any snow operation, blade 4-5 passes(cut out your lanes) then use your thrower to cut through and move your windrows…the broom is okay for dustings, but you’ll spend more time cleaning up the wash out with it. These machines are excellent in snow operations. The blade/plow is easily modifiable to attach rubber for brick drives…

Well after watching this video I know I'm not buying a Kubota or a Bobcat Tool cat or skid steer, this looks like it's alot easier to learn how to drive. I live in Saint Joseph Michigan and so far this year I think we have gotten a total of 10 inches of wet snow ?. That broom would be perfect for Sidewalks, and during the summer pushing the sand off the road and back on the beach?.

I have been researching the 1585’s for awhile now, and I am curious as to how it does in the summer with the mowing season. Would you recommend owning one? How is the cab, is it loud while operating? How’s the HVAC?

I personally love mine, but there is still a lot to be desired... you need to wear hearing protection in cab, the cab is leaky and dust finds its way in easily. I mowed down a five acre neglected hay field recently and I had to wear a mask because all the chaff was coming in. I have a rear discharge deck because I thought it would make trail and edge mowing easier...I would say get a side discharge for a cleaner machine, with less dust and dirt. The radiators need to be hosed down after every mow, there are like five of them. Switching attachments stinks, it is very difficult. Once you learn the tricks and work through the quirks it is a great machine. 4x4 mower with a deck that lifts so you can brush mow, also since deck is in front you can reach hard to mow spots over drop offs and up banks. When it isn't too dry, you can mow without getting dirty...no bugs, ac, etc. It is a great winter machine, does great on hills, the broom is awesome, and it can go 15 mph. You get a ton of versatility in one machine. AC and heat are great, but in really hot weather it lags a bit because the engine is right under the seat.

@@driftlessinwi Thank you very much for the feedback. I guess I need to ask the burning two questions on my mind. If you were to do it all over again, would you purchase the 1585 or something else? If something else what would it be and why? Second question, when will we see more 1585 footage, I like how in detail you are about the machine! Thank you!

@@jaredtolliver4751 I would say yes, I would probably do it over again...I might look at some other manufacturers before though. The big things for me were, a cab, awd, diesel, and zero turning. Belly mowers were out because they are too clunky and don't mow around things great. I will get a review of the 1585 up in the next few weeks. I will compare to my John Deere 997. Thanks for your support and request!

@@driftlessinwi okay that’s good to know, thank you. Are you looking to upgrade it with more attachments? Looking forward to the next video.

I have made some of my own attachments, a tree shear, a lifter made from a modified engine host, and a multi function hitch. It is a really nice machine to push around trailers. I used it to park a pontoon boat in a shed which had a door that barely was wide enough to get the boat through. They make combine harvesters for these too, but they are really expensive. The blade or the multi function bucket made for it by third parties could be appealing if you don't have a skidsteer or loader tractor.
