I personally loved Attila for shaking things up with a new approach to campaign. Not just building an empire from scratch, but also surviving the apocalypse of Hun invasion and all the disasters coming with it. Time period of Rome's fall was also pretty unexplored in media, so there was lots of room to bring something new to the table. Bronze Age collapse will most likely bring in a similar experience.

Rome total war had an expansion called barbarian invasion. Basically Attila is just an improved version of barbarian invasion. So Attila is not the first in the tw franchise to explore this time period. But yeah its a very good game.

That game was way too unbalanced. Every ranged unit was worth its weight in gold. Compared to rome 2 which was about melee, atilla was literally a ranged circlejerk. On top of that the romans are literally the worst in the game, bad stats, expensive and get outclassed. The huns have better infantry.. HOW ?

@@almightybogza Early Roman units have great armor, but troops themselves are not the same juggernauts they used to be. It was also real in history, as Romans started to rely more and more on federati to do their fighting for them. In the final period Roman army didn't look that different from a Barbarian army invading their lands. WRE could actually still win battles against some really bad odds, but western provinces were pretty poor and badly governed compared to the east. As a result soldiers could be left without pay, so there were mutinies, rebellions and desertions as state treasure was empty and you had idiots like Honorius or Valentinian in charge. In Attila game, I found my roster to be improving over time, especially after introducing weapon and armor upgrades as empire was regaining it's footing.

@@masterexploder9668 Bro the romans were still a great army. They failed because they were attacked from everywhere. Armour means nothing in game, its tetsudo or nothing. You use tetsudo to cheese the enemy and make them waste all their ammo. You can raze most cities as a buffer and that will stop anyone from coming to you. Atilla is overrated. There are many reasons why nobody plays it.

What's alarming about this video and channel is the creator here doesn't seem to know who the sea people were historically or how directly responsible they were for the collapse of the bronze age trade routes. It was mainly sea peoples and famine that ended the bronze age. He also said in this video that we never got the history of Egypt in a total war game, but we still aren't getting that. Egyptian empire is literally 1-2000 years old by the collapse of the bronze age in this game. One thing I want to know how they are dealing with factions. I read it had 8 factions, but only saw three nations with a few choices of leaders. they counting each leader as a faction? and if you pick on Pharaoh do you fight against the other three? even though they each ruled at different times? perhaps I am jaded but I am suspicious of overhype and wordplay from them and any triple a developer.

They have shown off some maps in a journalist release with a few battles in and the siege map looks big enough that a few fires wont be problematic but that was only 1 map, haven't seen the others yet. As for factions it is a 4, 2, 2 split between Egyptian, Canaanite and Hittite cultures and you dont start as a Pharaoh or high king, you gain the influence required and challenge the sitting ruler in a civil war. They didnt directly say what you do with other playable factions but best guess is compete with but not necessarily against them for influence and power. Not all of the 4 would have become Pharaoh they seem to be 4 influential nobles in the Egyptian kingdom with 1 of them being Ramesses III who went on to be Pharaoh but this is when his father is still alive so he is a landed heir. You dont have Ramesses I through IV all alive at once you have Ramesses III who went on to be Pharaoh and 3 other influential rulers from the Egyptian kingdom from the same time period.

Few considerations about new addictions: fire effects in field battles were already present since Attila and have been implemented in 3K; fire effects in sieges were the core of huns and other raiders factions in Attila; they cited the sea people but i bet no naval battle will be in the game (as naval sieges). The only addition is weather's changes during the battles BUT i hope that would not be abused. For the rest, the game is Troy.

bigger maps battle maps (siege maps are huge but battle maps seem to be small) and nice and large unit sizes would go a long way in making the game look more interesting. Regarding the 1 on 1 animations, i hope they implement it in a proper manner like medieval where you still had multiple units poking 1 unit and sometimes a 1 on 1 animation/finish, currently it seems to be a mixture of poking and responce combined with regular animations which i am fine with. And also pls up the battle duration of a basic map battle to around 15 minutes at least, yes 7 minutes i more than the former 3-5 minutes like in warhammer but battles are supposed to be a big selling point of the total war series and it doesn't make sense to get them over with that fast.

It makes little to no sense in a battle between formations, and ensures that a larger unit can't overwhelm a smaller unit since the battle will be a series of 1v1s. Higher stat units will in that case almost always win regardless of numbers in the involved units.

Historical Total War titles will always need to find a balance between accuracy and creative liberty in order to maximize the audience with a "best-of-both-worlds-plus-mod-support" product. If you want a truly realistic experience, the Age of Bronze mod is releasing its campaign mode later this month. Personally, I'm very curious about the new combat mechanics and values, that will bring in meaningful armor and complex battle movement (e.g. fall back command).

Having the Sea Peoples as somewhat of an Endgame Crisis makes sense. It is also the time period the Illiad takes place, so some similarities to Troy are not at all an issue. What kinda worries me is that there might be a sole focus on Egypt and the rest of the Eastern Mediterranean doesn't play a role at all. If this is the case, the game might be very one-sided or we get a bunch of DLCs for the other nations like Mycene, the Hittites, the Sea Peoples or Assyria.

The Bronze Age collapse and the mysterious Sea Peoples is routed in real history and an extremely interesting, yet somehow unpopular period in Mediterranean history. Although, I must say that I was hoping for a less Egypt-focused campaign, and one that focuses more on all the major players of that time period, like the minoans, mycenaeans, hittites, etc. A Bronze Age Survival type campaign would indeed be very, very cool, especially if the environmental disasters of the time period are implemented well.

Compare that to Medieval one, the weather could change multiple times per battle in that title. The weather in medieval one had a big impact on your troops, not the limited penalties that exist in the new title. I hope Pharaoh is a hit but I would have liked them to go all in on the weather and associated effects. That would have added real tactics to the battles.

Bannerlord has succeeded in combining those things. Spore was the first game, but bannerlord brings it into a new level. Imagine Battle for middle earth and lotro combined. That's the future. Total War, Total War has changed. Their is a reason people put Shogun 2, Fall of the Samurai, Medieval 2 and Rome 1 at the top of their lists. They where Simple but they worked, and had alot of Strategic Depth. The Units where very autonomies and required little input on the players part, you could TRUST your men to do their DAME JOB without you baby sitting them. NOW the Strategic Depth has been STRIPED away from the Campaign map and Units require alot more input then before, be it pressing a ability button or heavy micro. I don't care weather they do 1v1 combat or not, in fact i think the Matched combat HELPS. If more recent TWs are anything to go by, if the units do not have Match Combat, they will randomly flail at each other and some random guy in the BACK will die instead Due to the HEALTH BARS units have now. Speaking of HEALTH, ARMOR has HP now, not sure how i feel about that. At least they removed the Pocket ladders, that is STEP in the right direction. Now they just have to figure out what ELSE people want removed or reverted to YE OLDE days of GOOD Total War.

Yes all this but also the older titles (especially rome 1 and medieval 2) had amazing characters. It legitimately felt like an RPG at times, characters picking up good and bad traits from actions they took on the map, left your general in a city with a tavern not doing anything? Oh shit he is an alcoholic now. Like even the bad traits were awesome getting generals that went mad or had suffixes like "the lewd" and their traits effecting their pre battle speeches was so awesome and mad the game feel real and fun even when it hampered your generals abilities. You ended up with entire storylines for generals to the point that I'd often retire my best generals to manage scenic costal settlements as a "thank you" for their services. The newer total wars rank up and only pick from positive traits stuff isn't terrible but it's not as organic and rewarding as the new older ones. I think they should move the rank up stuff to units. How cool would it be if you use a unit of swordsmen to flank all the time and as a result they get a trait like flanker that buffs their charge bonus into the rear of enemy units? Or if an archer unit accrues so many horse kills they get a bonus attack vs horses. That way your army improves in the way you tend to use your units and makes sense in a historical framework.

I really wish they would revisit medieval total war and make a third game. Like what are they thinking? It is so obvious we all want it. Pull your finger out CA and make an actually good game. Dont get lazy!!!

I've also wanted Medieval 3 with a new engine for a long time. Of course, CA chose to go in the exact opposite direction with a game era no one asked for, let alone thought of.

@@jasonbourneistreadstone the company has lost direction since they had success with warhammer. It used to be about history and realistic representation but since they had success with fantasy they have adapted their style to suit. At least that's what I think the problem is. They think that because the majority prefer one thing, thats where they will have the most success. If they just made medieval 3 they would see how wrong they really are...

@@Xyclonius I have Warhammer 1 and 2 and I'm simply waiting until all factions for Warhammer 3 are released, including all or the majority of DLC, and then a 50% off sale. It's going to be a long time until 3 is in my Steam library. I did enjoy Troy and then CA cut support and ended any more development on the game.

@@jasonbourneistreadstone That's a shame because I haven't even had the chance to play Troy yet. I have three different copies of the game due to picking it up and not having time to play and forgeting about owning it lol. The first one I got for free on epic, second I picked up locally really cheap and third I got it on steam when it came out on there.

1v1 fights is one of the worst tbh in large scale parties, there should still be penalties to those individuals who broke from formation or got separated, by the means of 10v1

latest total war games are only statistics simulators for me... +10 this, +20 there, numbers everywhere but less and less action on battlefield. I really love the shogun mechanics where one valley of arrows have dramatic immediate impact on the enemy unit, now you have have only fancy HP bars over units... Its sad

I'm sorry but I'm really skeptic. I want it to be good but I couldn't bear to see it become another Troy. I'd love to experience a new historical Total War like the ones we had in the past and I'm talking like Medieval, Rome, Empire, Napoleon, Shogun.... and I hope this one is going that way but I honestly doubt it.

When I was a young child I grew up on rts and turn based strategy games. Age of empires series, age of mythology, civ etc on a windows xp PC. When my family got a new pc I worked hard for every dollar I could get to buy total war med 2. Loved this series ever since but now I find myself unable to enjoy the newer titles as I once did

The only gripe with this is that these bronze age games don't encompass the entire eastern Mediterranean Sea. Differences in cultures and units, would've made it the best total war game ever. Bronze age is indeed niche, most people know nothing about it, that's understandable as the further back you go in history, the fewer people are interested. However, the small percentage that are interested, asked for Bronze Age TW games for decades. I'm happy for the commercial success of Warhammer games, this means that CA can create amazing games on more niche time periods without the pressure of needing to do well financially. I really hope they don't get back to gunpowder era and the stale gameplay, watching people with rifles shooting eachother. Hopefully, in the future, they will explore the ancient periods of other cultures in Asia and rest of Africa.
