Is this the BEST Steam Train in Scotland? (Strathspey railway)
The Strathspey railway is one of the best preserved steam trains in the country, Steam Trains are always a great experience & in the Cairngorms national part you can experience one of the best preserved Steam-train in Scotland.
The Strathspey Railway is a railway that was once a branch off of the Highland Main line. The strathspey railway would run from Aviemore in the caingorms national park to Forres on the Moray coast. Currently the strathspey rail way runs from Aviemore to Broomhill train station or (Glenbogle) for those that are familiar with the TV show Monarch of the Glen.
The strathspey railway is a heritage railway maintained and operated by The Strathspey Railway Charitable Trust who plan to extend the line up to Grantown-on-Spey. As The strathspey line is one of only a handful of former main lines to be preserved in The UK today. Transport for Scotland is looking at reopening the line to timetabled services some point in the future.

We took a ride on the Strathspey on a highlands holiday in 2018 and absolutely loved it! Steam trains are so special. We're so lucky there are volunteers around the world preserving them and working so hard on keeping them going and promoting them.
Great video. I’ve been volunteering at the railway for the last 5 years & i get to ride the steam train on my last day of the season. It’s amazing. Hope you come back to visit again soon.😊

I’m planning to visit the Strathspey Railway in 2029 as it’s the only railway in the world that owns my 2 favourite locomotives the Black 5 & the Caledonian 812 (which I read is returning there @ the end of this year). After seeing this I really can’t wait.

The great thing about the Strathspey Railway is that it shares its station with Scotrail, so you can get the train there and just hop off the Scotrail train and onto a steam train. And the catering is top notch.
