Waterfall is a valid strategy, never fails tbh, i see too many people asking me what to do and I recommend waterfall, then they just release the whole project and do not receive what they could have by drip feeding ;-;

l dre, you've motivated me to start music production as a hustle. i don't really know what lies ahead for me but i'll hope for the best. i hope everyone else can also become successful music producers.

waterfall method is okay but keep in mind if you are releasing in a + timezone, spotify will say that your new music has been released before it has (the single art and "new release" will come up) when people click on the new release they will only see the already released songs in the waterfall until the new song is out in their timezone! Had this happen to me on my previous release and found it very annoying, almost a big enough reason to not go ahead with the waterfall strategy.

The reality is that the music industry is doing much worse lately. With Spotify giving us these fake tools like Discovery Mode (their algorythm became much worse since they implemented that, so that we are technically forced to use it and give them 30% from our royalties), things keep goind downhill. It's getting hard for us to release music. For me personally, It's even hard to reach my own audience. My LP will wait for better times to be released.

I mispoke a little there, those werent all my playlists. I only have like 3 playists and I dont do anything special with them. The rest of the playlists shown where mostly my fans personal playlists that they add me in

There is a major problem with stacking up the tracks with every release. Spotify categorizes 1-3 tracks as a single, 4-6 tracks as an EP, and 7+ tracks will be an album. If you want to do this strategy with 7 tracks you'll drop an album, if you want to add another track next week, you're dropping another album. If you do this for a 12 track project in total this means you've just dropped 5 albums in a row, and each time only 1 track is different. I'd suggest the strategy of just doing separate singles and then bringing it together in your EP or album. :)

I use canva pro for cover art, I know it’s not photoshop but it’s really easy to use

When I upload the second or third single to the DSP do I just include the same project file as before? Does the System read it as the same tune?

@@dionnecc a simple explanation is so that the previous singles can basically get streamed by accident since they are together. If you do each single separate they might listen to it and carry on.

I started releasing Music early 2018 I didn’t get into an editorial till like 2020 and it was only because my song went viral on TikTok lol but there’s also stories of people that got into them on there 2nd or 3rd release 🤷🏽‍♂️

I got on several big lo-fi editorial playlists in 2022, just 4 months after releasing my first beat on spotify. My monthly listeners went from 100 to 150 000 in a few months. But since 2023, my beats were removed from those editorial playlists and my monthly listeners dropped to like 4000. I’m still releasing and pitching music but didn’t get any beats on an editorial since 2023… I really have no idea why.

​@souljunglemusic Editorial playlist pitch can be weird some times. I got 3 of my songs pitched 2022 to some lofi playlist. The funny thing is 2 of my songs are still on the playlist since 2022

Imma leave my argument - do not waterfall. Here’s why, if your song does well, people will want to hear more. No one cares if you release one or ten, so why not release ten, and have people who like it listen to everything else. Then Promote each song like a single, while at the same time snagging multi track plays from fans. If u release one track, you’ll get one play. This advice is for those building a catalog. Don’t sell yourself short because of trends that are dead already. Nothing wrong with releasing singles. But the waterfall technique implies you have a full deck of songs ready to go. Release them, make an impact.

I’ll leave my counter argument - when you release 10 tracks it’s a lot less likely that people will make it to track 10. I can say from experience almost every album I’ve released the last few tracks usually have way less streams than the first ones. That’s just how it is. While I’m not sure if I will continue water-falling a full album worth or not, I cannot deny the benefits of giving every single track its on shine and release date.
