    Great video and review Eric. After 50,000 miles on these Infinity Seats, I think 'conventional' saddles are the weird aesthetic. I use them for road, gravel and MTB. My rides go up to 12 hours. Like rim brakes and carbon wheels, (what we did to try and make carbon wheels work vs simply going to a brake rotor and eliminating contact with the rim), bike saddles for over 100 years have been based on a bad design and optimized as best as possible by softening the concentrated pressure on the ischium, or, sit bone. Infinity Seats changed that by eliminating all pressure on the ischium, perineum region and for the most part, the pudendal nerve which combined, make up the reasons conventional seats are often associated with not just ischium pain, but numbness in the entire area. Also note that Infinity now offers the the X Series seats made with weather proof marine vinyl - best for muddle, wet severe conditions where you don't want to worry about taking care of the leather. As for price, well in the middle of the premium seat market. Considering many cycling enthusiast spend thousands or even $10,000+ for their bike, often adding carbon wheels for thousands more, buying an artesian Infinity Seat that turns discomfort into a comfy experience is the greatest bargain in bikes. As I say often, "After a 12 hour race, the only thing that doesn't hurt is my ass". - Grey Haired Cycling Dude. PS: I wear bibs with a 2mm chamois.................no more diaper pads in my bibs!

    Great to hear that Eugene! The way you describe the Infinity Seat as the greatest bargain in bikes is a really interesting point to make for big spenders. It would nice if people could try these more readily, as for a smaller budget these run pricey. The serie X sounds like my next upgrade :) Thanks & Best wishes!

    Interesting video! I have 3 bikes and all 3 have a Brooks B17 on them. After 45 years of cycling I have found these to be the most comfortable for me. That said, I totally understand what you’re saying about sliding into the pocket of the Brooks saddle. The One Infinity is expensive but I may look into it. If the saddle truly makes you more comfortable on the bike, the money is worth it! Thanks for the review!

    I used a Brooks B17 for a number of years and used to think these were the best saddles in the world, but not using padded cycling shorts, the pressure soon built up in the Perineal area and made long rides seriously uncomfortable. I have recently been introduced (last six months or so) to the Selle SMP TRK, which has a central cut out area albeit smaller than the Infinity and I must say it's a delight to ride on - quite possibly one of the most comfortable saddles I've ever ridden. I think the cost of the infinity is a definite turn off, especially since it doesn't appear to be all that durable, but getting the saddle right is probably the single most important step to ensuring comfort on the road and buying whatever suits, regardless of the cost, is the right way to go here. Thanks for another insightful gear review.

  • @WheelstoWander

    @WheelstoWander

    Hi Paul! I also have high regards for the B17 but they fall short in a few key areas. I have seen the Selle SMP and they look very capable. The Infinity Seats are expensive and I expect the A1X adventure to be a lot more durable. The E2 isn't really designed for months on end being out in the elements. I agree that getting the saddle right is the singel most important step to cycling comfort. All the best!

    Salut Eric! For me, these are the 3 points of contact. So, I looked for very comfortable saddles that were not slippery with my jeans because I often ride and even go downhill without holding the handlebars. Fortunately, there are plenty of choices with the slot in the middle. For the pedals, I finally opted for the 4 bikes for the Shimano XT wide version and without the flu bolts but I added the famous Velcro strap in the slot which prevents the foot from sliding forward. And last point, the handles in real molded wood (this is not the kind of bike you leave parked in the street ;). Wood is an indescribable feeling of warmth and comfort.

    Thanks for the video! I'm very interested in alternative saddle concepts. I also don't wear a padded shorts because it only gives me comfort for a short while. Also when it's hot, the sweat does not help on long rides. I do ultracycling (like 1000km in 3 days) and bought a brooks b17 narrow which I hope will fit better than the others I used before. But it's really a niche so I appreciate you bringing this up a lot! Although the prize is a big matter...

    Very interesting. I just bought three Selle Italias that were dirt cheap for my "town bikes " (70's vintage steel roadies with perfectly OK but beat up factory saddles ) and they are pretty awesome. For the mule tourer, I splurged 40.00+ on a Selle Italia Touring women's/Unisex saddle with a wide- butt profile . (A lot of gear now is listed as "Unisex". have you noticed that?) It's a "Float" model I think. Generally, I don't have a lot of saddle discomfort , I can adapt pretty well to almost anything (within reason) , and I discovered that padded shorts really aren't mandatory, but I do use them for long touring if they don't chafe. I love the old Avocet saddles , but figured I'd splurge on the Selle Float because I'm officially old now. We'll see what happens. When I first saw that thumbnail I thought yes, durability , and that saddle's not gonna be cheap. Weldwood Contact Cement and a binder clamp or V clamp will cure that rear section , you don't need staples. I wonder what they'd charge to repair it . Hell, If I was that CEO, I'd do it for free for you just for the good press. Yeah I do hate it when you feel like you have to keep sliding back on the saddle to be "in position". Even when you have it all the way back on the rails. That's an immediate swap out. The Avocets never do that to me. B-17's are off my radar now, too heavy, and too much obsession. And they get stolen. Folks, let's all remember that no saddle is going to forever endure the torture that Eric and Maudi can dish out year after year . I mean, Morroco for Gods' sakes lol. Great analysis . Oh and now is the time to buy bike stuff as the market is now flooded with post-Covid surplus . Onward.

    I think your reviews along with your partners are extremely valuable given your extensive bike touring trip, however I think saddles are still subjective ie no saddle available will suit everyone the fact that you found it second hand confirms, I would like to try one but that price is extortionate for what you get the price just doesn't justify. I also ride without any padded shorts and have no problems with the b17 (which I love) and do think the price of the b17 justifies what you get, but im not so comfortable with the fact that its leather and can change shape over time I found it perfect out of the box so I keep it covered with a thin rain cover and ive only used proofide when it looks dull (2 times in the 4 years ive had it) luckily its kept its shape. thanks for the review✌️

    Saddles are a very personal thing. This looks interesting, but I'm a happy long time Brooks user, the sprung version of the B17 (also without padded shorts). Great that you picked this up so cheap - that full price is crazy! I'm a big fan of buying second hand, and all my Brooks saddles have been used. People buy them, find the break-in period too painful, and give up on them. Another thing I like about Brooks saddles is that they last forever and if the rails break (like mine have) it's not too difficult or expensive to replace them. Only down side is remembering to put a saddle cover on when it's left out in the rain! Looking forward to your next set of cycling adventure videos - hope we don't have to wait too long 👍

    I'm about a 240 lb. guy and have been having a hard time finding a saddle that doesn't hurt my perineum and sit bones. I've looked into these saddles and they seem to make a lot of sense. The new hammock design especially to distribute pressure even more. The price has always been an issue so the used market was a good idea to start. I was concerned to see the damage to the saddle considering the price but wonder if a lack of care by the previous owner might have had something to do with it? I would probably go with a synthetic material as well because the leather really gives no advantage that I can think of given the design. I would think given the price and how different this saddle is the manufacturer would have display units set up for people to sit on and see for themselves if they want to break into the market. Since I'm in the US I'm going to check on the website and see if this is an option anywhere hear. You don't see many people trying these but every one I have has always been a good review so I'm glad to see an opinion from someone with your experience and reputation. Thanks for the info and I look forward to more great videos. P.S. Any plans of riding in the U.S.?

    They saddle looked great when I got it. Occasionally the bike falls over because I didn't secure the kickstand enough in the touch and go nature of things (filming a lot!). Also I had the wrong leather balm that left stains on my pants so I didn't use it nearly as much as needed. The saddle has also been outside 24/7 for months in rain, snow, sun, etc. It's not designed for that use. I would probably go for the A1X version now. No direct plans but we would love to ride the U.S. some day! Thanks & All the best!

    It doesn't work as well as you may think. Sitting on the hamstring tendon will increase tensile force on the sitbone still, this won't be captured by a pressure map. Additionally you can't move around on this saddle well which further tends to increase discomfort due to sustained pressure. I'm not saying this saddle can't work better for some than traditional saddles but it's certainly not magic for everyone.

    The fundamental problem with every bicycle saddle is the small seat area and therefore the high pressure. I think the crucial question is what the body cannot do. If this goes below a certain value, the only thing left to do is stop or leigerad. see my post Bernard

    Picking a saddle that's right for you is a tough task. Unless you are a bike fitter or physiotherapist with access to pressure mapping tools like that seen at 1:36min you may find that you spend money on saddles only to have to make due with what you got or admit defeat and try again. . If you want to ensure that the saddle is right for you go and see a bike fitter who has the tools to ensure that you get what fits you, it will be cheaper in the long run.

    For me, the price isn't the problem but the lack of a return policy or a demo program.

    I don't know, this saddle cost over 400 US bucks. Not for the average person. Maybe when the price comes down, way down. Seems like it would work but still a gamble if I would even like it.

    No rules for choosing saddle. Every one has it's own ass. Simple!! Beginners should try till they find what is good for them. Experienced cyclist knows what his heeds. So its much easier for him to find the correct one. I can give one tip for the beginners: The price of the saddle has nothing with the comfort. The price usually depends only the brand. Don't be tempted to buy an expensive saddle... Excellent relatively budget saddle brand is "Velo" made in Taiwan.
