    Sometimes I wonder how your country is classified as 'first world'. I live in Barbados and probably a decade ago our government sourced and gave garbage cans like those to every household in the country. Initially a couple were stolen by idiots who quickly found out they have hidden tracking chips that were assigned to said house. Then again i'm talking about a first world country that has forgotten that it needs to build and provide affordable housing to its citizens so this is rather minor in comparison.

    Depends - luxury apt buildings have a chute. I grew up not far from there, so I have a few guesses... small apt buildings you probably carry your own trash bag when full down to the basement where the building mngment keeps a dumpster. Luxury/ tall/ newer buildings (esp if over 6 floors) likely have a trash chute on every floor, leading to that dumpster in the basement. Smaller buildings that didnt have an inside dumpster probably had one outside, with dumpsters designated especially for residents. I lived in a 2 bedroom apt in a 8 apt building, 45 miles north of the city, we had a dumpster shed that housed dumpsters (about 6 ft long, 3 feet wide, 4 ft deep) for trash, newspapers/ cardboard & cans/ bottles, & the residents from apprx. 3-4 buildings (8 units in ea, 4 units 2 bed/ 4 units 1 bedroom) all used one nearby shed. Pplin walkups/ brownstones like you see in nicer parts of Brooklyn likely had to buy their own trash cans.

  • @raylf3141
    @raylf3141Ай бұрын

    Ya'll missing the best part of that trash can. It's like 1/3 the size that's used in western states. I'm gonna put a wager on it being that much smaller because if it was the size of the ones out west SOME of NYC's residents would convert them into mobile homes. And fair enough, it's roughly the size of a typic NYC studio apt.

    As someone who has grown up with wheelie bins everywhere I am very confused about this. We have 3 different ones that are all slightly bigger than his demonstrator. Recycling, landfill, compost/biodegradable and a 4th small box for glass. America seems almost 3rd world these days, except it's filled with assholes instead of nice people.
