Is this the Best flugelhorn ever Made? I think so! Check out the Schnaffhorn from Martin Böhme!

[links in description]
What a beautiful flugelhorn! We've had a lot of requests for a demo video of the Schnaffhorn since becoming a dealer for Klangwerkstatt Martin Böhme. Since we have one passing through the shop I decided to make a quick lo-fi video so you can check it out.
The Schnaffhorn has a nice compact wrap thanks to the beautiful bend in the bell. It's lightweight, well balanced, and feels great in the hands. It has a light, intimate, traditional flugelhorn sound. Intonation is excellent, especially around the top of the staff in the "bread and butter" register. It has a traditional 6-inch bell (too large of a diameter will start to affect intonation). It's built with a MAW valve block, giving it smoothness and cleanliness in chromatic passages and opening up the horn in the upper register.
Here's the link to order your Schnaffhorn through our web store:
www.austincust...
And my answer to this question is a resounding "YES!"
Bravo to Martin for making yet another incredible instrument.

    Thank you for your video. One thing, when you get ready to screw in anything, put a tiny bit of pressure inward on it and turn it counter-clockwise, (for right handed threads), and keep turning it till it "clicks" and you can feel it drop in a little. That is called, "FINDING YOUR THREAD." Then keep that inward pressure and gently turn clockwise a quarter turn. If the threads are engaged properly, it will screw in easily. If the threads are buggered up, you'll need to chase them with a three corner jeweler's file, to eliminate burrs and catches or rolled threads. NEVER POWER START a threaded item.! Always hand start! It's really easy to "cross-thread" especially in soft metals, like brass and bronze and aluminum or plastic.

    TBH, it is one of the few reviews I've seen that justifies a top line premium price. I'm reluctant to even try this because I would want it on the spot!!! Beautiful playing and horn.

    I am not sure but it's like, because of the full spectrum, the room itself and the objects in it give resonances back, taking away bit of the transparency of the recording. I would like to hear it in the ideal place for it . I was thinking too that one probably can make all kinds of interesting contemporary noise and harmonics effects , with this since it responds so delicately

    can you do something on flugelhorns with a third valve slide and those without? Just so if you're trying to start out with the flugelhorn, you know what to expect with both kinds, intonation wise?

  • @austincustom

    @austincustom

    Why? Large bore flugelhorns are not good. Bore size is mostly overrated but in this case bore is vital to the tonal characteristics.

    I thought large bore on trumpet and flugelhorns give them a dark sound. I've heard flugel horns that have such a beautiful, deep, dark sound they almost sound like a trombone . I love that deep sound like the horn you played. @@austincustom

    Soundly lovely. It looks like the receiver is much lower compared to the valve tops, so does it feel different with your hand so high? The shape is beautiful. I’ve seen Marcinkiewicz, Romeo Adaci and various European makes with that style curved design and I think it looks really cool.

    many flugelhorns sound good. Most do not play in tune. Flugelhorns, like French horns have a conical bore unlike a trumpet or coronet which have cylindrical bores. Conical bore horns are much harder to play in tune, al be it easier to blow than a trumpet. This horn sounds kind of dry to me, not warm. I have had a number of French, American, and Asian flugel horns, and I think they all sound better than this one.
