I just got mine and I hate it. Not only does it malfunction immensely and repeatedly, staying stuck on on and off modes, not turning on or off or not responding to any hard presses and then magically resolving the issues itself after waiting a bit and then malfunctioning all over again, it also accidentally fired 4000 lumens in my eye, when I was furiously pressing the damn thing to turn it off when it stayed stuck on modes. I never want to have it do that to me again and it has shown me right out of the box that I cannot trust it at all. Sometimes it gives me the 4000 lumens brightness for a split second when trying to turn it on or off. You commenters will probably say "press it hard once, QUICKLY then" and you'd be right, but my god, is it dangerous when you are just a little too slow or casual, standing next to a white wall... When you're in the dark and for example just shining it on a body of water, that is potentially blinding to the eyes and totally pointless. What sofirn does with the double tab is much better and safer. What a dangerous, untrustworthy piece of crap. I had such high hopes and it failed me. I will return it promptly. Greetings from the Netherlands

I've been enjoying mine quite a bit. My only gripe is the multiple clicks on the tail switch don't always seem to line up so you're not always getting a constant on light when you need it. Sometimes it goes into one of the two spot or turbo modes. I suppose just like the EDC 27, it takes some getting used to. I'm one for carrying the same flashlight all the time so I don't get confused as to the operation....

The EDC-27 has a useful form factor but yeah the controls are awkward, espeically for emergency situations. The EDC-33 has a great user interface and is surprisingly small. The EDC-33 is probably my favourite EDC light of the past 20 years. I carry it everywhere.

I've got it and love the size and two step button UI, unfortunately the flood LEDs are only used in lumin shield and high mode which makes the light rather useless for close proximity illumination. Its debatable whether the lack of strobe is a deal breaker for self defense purposes, I wish Nitecore designed a light that combines the EDC27 interface with the EDC33 size and features. Btw a recent teardown on reddit revealed that the EDC33/35 design wouldn't work with a replaceable battery.

True, but when I’m out camping I bring a charger if I have signal, and if not power it off until needed. The benefit to models with replaceable batteries is when I’m camping I bring a baggie of 18650’s and a baggie of 21700’s to keep my flashlights running as needed.

@Erin-Thor light isn't designed for heavy use like camping or patrolling with a constant on light. It is a smallish light you carry for everyday tasks and (hopefully not needed) self defense scenarios where blinding someone to control them is a more preferable outcome than letting them have their way or stopping them in more damaging ways. I understand trying to get the most use out of the tools you have instead of buying more but, don't ruin what you have in pursuit of that mindset. Just buy a tool better suited for your needs.

@@CTom1988 - At work we currently use (from memory) mostly Sofirin IF22A and SC33’s, one is a small 18650 battery, 2000 lumen spot, the SC33 is a 21700 battery, just over 5000 lumen bright flood-ish light. SC33 is not a press and hold for max, both are double-tap for turbo. For camping I use the same ones plus a SC32 (flood-ehh) and a Q8 plus and Q8 pro.

@@Erin-Thoryea to be fair that makes of course sense to the „Old“ systems. Today we have Powerbanks with more capacity in every Form, and the EDC33 Is still useable if you charge it on the Cable. So, sure it’s a benefit to have a replaceable battery’s, but I prefer still my Cu6 from Nightcore. I already carry a powerbank for my phone with me and also two cables (Lightning for my phone and C for Whatever these days) so it doesn’t really matters for this point. Of course it’s my opinion, but I’m a big Fan from my EDC33 as my EDC-Flashlight;)

Built-in battery lovers compare a tactical flashlight with a built-in cellphone's battery, are you forking seriously? You can take a seat, take out a powerbank and continue using you phone, it's obvious and makes sense. But how am I suppose to connect a powerbank to a tactical flashlight? Is it easy for you to connect a wire with a box to a flashlight and carry all this stuff while you are assembling tents? Or walking around with a wired flashlight. What if your powerbank occasionally become drained or stopped working because it was just a crap and it died? What can be easier and more reliable than taking out a spare high quality charged battery, swap it in 5 seconds and continue working without any wires and battery boxes? I just don't get all this bullshit about built-in batteries in things where they don't make any sense. Maybe we should start to charge flashlights every day near a smartwatch and a smartphone? But what if I don't use it everyday like a phone? And what if I want to increase built-in battery capacity because of a battery progress or manufacturer's greed? I think you won't answer these questions because it's better to accommodate to a new order of things and say to yourself - "it's normal, fresh and up-to-date, I should change my habits" instead of thinking properly and finding a common sense.
