Last summer, on a late , warm night where I was up too late, i sat in my bed staring at a laptop screen, as moths fluttered around the blue light, the brightest source in the house for them to flock to. I wouldn't sleep, and I wouldn't stay awake. I browsed Fangamer for stuff i might buy if I ever had the money. I think it was mostly Hollow Knight plushies? Anyway, while I was searching, something popped into the "things you might like" category. A stuffed doll of a blonde girl with a green sweater, staring into the distance. I clicked on the doll, and was...more confused than I was before. The description had the usual mumbo-jumbo about materials, but the "flavor text," where usually a quote from the game goes, only said one thing: "All alone in the pink sea..." I looked down to see what game she was from. "Yume Nikke?" I'd heard that before, but where I couldn't recall. I went to the page for the game, boasting...very little. Everything seemed off, trippy, greepy yet...bright? It reminded me of OMORI, in a way, just without any pretense of covering up the dark parts with things like happy endings and adventures. The only other character was a girl with closed eyes holding a knife. Creepy, right...? Okay, now my 2 AM interest is piqued. I go to steam, look up the game, planning to put it on my ever growing wishlist of things I'll never get around to playing. ...it's free. It's late. I won't sleep. Why not...? I spend hours exploring. When I get bored or stuck, I tab back to youtube, and screw around. Maybe once or twice i looked up where things were. One time, I see the original song. I click on it, and remember this was where I'd seen the name before. A year prior, when I was listening to your Undertale stuff, I stumbled upon Is It So Bad? and listened, confused having never heard of Yume Nikke before, but spellbound. I listened to the song again that night, as the moths fluttered about my bed, hiding dreams between their dusty wings. Infinite repeat, with the game's OST playing right out of the game window in the background. I woke up the next morning wondering if the whole thing had been a dream... ...and I guess, in a way... ...it had.

This is better writing than some books I've read

I just want to say that I found this song while 2 tabs into an acid trip 6 months ago and because of this songs message, I completely dropped my shopping addiction, stopped using coke, quit drinking, quit all my toxic friends, quit my social media addiction, im saving money to leave the country, stopped eating nothing but fast food and I went vegan. I listen to this often to remind myself of what matters. We all know how to be happy, we just have a hard time applying it to our lives. I've never been happier and healthier. Thank you for the amazing music and powerful message, dude. Take back your knowledge, friends.

While I'm unsure if this is intentional, it kind of sounds like the "end" is already starting by the start of the song, and this is some sort of thought process while going through it. Just, some sort of thing I thought after hearing the first loop. A question of why they're here, on the way down yet assure of what they've done, covering their eyes and relaxing, as if a dream. Questioning why it matters that much for them to be around, why others care so much. Taking paths that you don't quite understand yet. Having a few moments to question what else there was in their life, given what's next, only to find guilt to beset them. With their panic flooding in, causing their heart to flutter in like a clock in response Their lack of anything settles in, as the ground draws closer, unable to turn away. No longer are they at the choice of their own whims, incapable of getting themselves out of the situation they're in. Realizing that this is the last anyone will see of them, and what other people will view their actions as. And of course, being forced to accept a ending, that may not be desired any more, having taken the door, the leap of faith.

The first version felt like slowly going mad in a bittersweet suffocating silence, this feels like the aftermath where the realisation that there is no more way out of this despair that they have brought upon themself as they reminince/contemplate at their past decisions even though knowing they cannot change a thing, hence the more dream-like, mumbling, numb aura yet there's like a silent call for help if you listen closely, wondering if anyone will even realise before it's too late In other words, vewy nice remake of an already brilliant song :)

This song gives off the same atmosphere as the awful nightmares I've had since 2021. This would be the part where I go into detail but due to the themes of these nightmares I can't really do that. Anyway, I've never played this game and I heard it's free so might play it at some point!

God, the original Song was already good at setting the dreamy vibe but this remakes makes it even better. Great job fresh!

This song is so beautiful! I've played Yume Nikki before, so I have a special place in my heart for this game. This re-mastered version is truly something special, and I can't help but love it! The song perfectly captures the dream-like atmosphere of the game, and the added vocals are simply stunning. It's a perfect homage to this wonderful game ^^

Man I love this song so much. Been following you for a while and basically everything you make instantly goes on my playlist.

The original song was actually one of my favorite of yours. I love the way that the remaster seems so much more dreamy, like the reverb is higher and it just has a less serious tone. The original had a lot more escalation in tone. It feels like you went for a very different tone and feeling when you made the remaster. Also I would love if you remade Asriel’s song “Stay with me”. I always get chills when I listen to it and I would love to see what you would change in a remaster.

The original version of this song is still my fav, but i found this remaster yesterday when i was in a bit of a crisis. This might sound weird, but it's exactly what i needed to hear. One chapter in my life has ended, and a new one just opened. For better or worse. This song has been something i've listened to at least 100 times, and i just wanted to say... thank you. It's highly relatable and has helped a lot.

A full moon, my friends taking care of me as i shake from flashbacks... and as i slowly relaxed and calmed down, as they distracted me and reminded me they're here, i found this remaster... So many elements came together. Thank you again.

This song really sends me back to when I first found it, too! every now and a then i might return to this song, each time with a different look on it first time was a story being played out about Yume having a nightmare 2nd time was cause i was bored, made me think about me and how i probably dont have many friends 3rd time (now) is cause im not doing well (mentaly), this makes me think about my life, how this song makes me feel the beginning part is the calming part, the part of confusion then at 2:00 it feels like fear and realization that maybe life isnt all that its chopped up to be it makes me feel like 2 sides of me are fighting, both hate the other for the some reason of being annoying both are the same in every way sorry if this seems vent-ish, im not trying to vent here i hope

It's a simple game where you explore a girl's dreams... but most of them are strange and sometimes horrific. You can get access to different dreams by having different abilities in your dreams as well, and they're just as strange as the dreams themselves! This song is about not only the dreams, but the audience's potential reaction to witnessing this girl's strange nature :)

I’m a big fan of the lyrics you have going on here. In my mind they perfectly describe the depressing circumstances laid down by Yume Nikki. The ending is also much more climatic compared to the original version of the song. Well done!
