    First time I went to Bob's (original location on university) I think I was 12 or 13, last time I was in my late 40s shortly before we left Phoenix. Over the years I made friends with Bob (as did thousands of others) He was truly an amazing guy and shrewd businessman, it was a sad day when he passed shortly after retiring and generously leaving the business to Rod (it's more involved, in the interest of brevity I'll leave it at that) Over the years this place was instrumental in literally hundreds of my motorcycle projects. The Piles of metal are an up close illustrated history of motorcycles and the pitfalls of not showing them due respect. It's not a place that caters to today's instant gratification world. I, like thousands of others, used to spend Hours in the Blazing Phoenix sun looking for this exact fastener and that little trim piece to buy for a fair price. I miss having the ability to do that

    I for one have been to Bobs and I'm here to tell you"patience" is all you need. I have built many bikes with parts from there. I have only not had luck once when looking for a new gasket set. I bet there's one there it's just misplaced. I go out and really dig look under over,everywhere not to be let down. Example 83GPZ 750 must have ten in stock,83 yz80 brand new piston/rings,87 CR500 plastics and seat plus all other years. ATK406 cylinder and piston,82 cr500, 87 Husqvana xc430 electronics/forks/seat,NOS stock stuff that you just can't find anyplace. Found a brand new ceramic coated MAC pipe and muffler for a GPz750. It's all there plastics for your sport bike rebuild,they have thousands of them hanging from wires all across the ceilings in two huge buildings. Fuel tanks in perfect shape for just about anything. Tons of old Maier Plastics in every color. Oary grips,stickers for a ton of dirt bikes. Even tank bras for old gsxrs and cbrs. Need I say more. Not to mention tons of new inventory parts. Go look or try to call them,phone is kinda tough.

    having an idetic memory is essential to working in a breaker's yard. My friend owned a breaker's yard like this and relied on me to remember where everything was. I could identify all of the exhaust systems hung up in the video without even trying. There's a knack in searching for small parts in yards like this tht few possess.

    I was there today, and I too, walked out empty handed. I wish they'd manage inventory a little closer, and junk the stuff that won't sell, like the bikes that were in major fires, etc.

    A real biker's idea of paradise!! A friend used to own a bike breaker's yard back in the 1990's and I'd occasionally go down there and fix or strip a bike or pick a steering lock or something just for the fun of it as a volunteer. (I also owned a 1970's and 1980's Yamaha / Suzuki ignition skeleton key which I still have). Many bikes that came weren't owned by real bikers and so when they "died" they just trailered them in and well, we'd sort them out, fix the really simple fault and resell them for a profit. Best / worst idiot owner bike that came in was a Kawasaki GPZ 305 with 28,000 miles on the clock and 6mm. (measured) grooves in the camshaft lobes. The owner had bought it from a dealership that had gone bust and run the bike for the next 28,000 miles on the thin 1st 500 mile breaking in oil hence the worn out camshaft. Top speed was 38 MPH (eventually) due to low lift valves. Fitted a new camshaft, gave the bike its first oil change and the motor was sweet and a nut due to its self nerfing performance.

    They passed a law in Texas that made selling used motorcycle parts illegal. All the motorcycle junkyards went out of business overnight. Most dealers just had a recycle bin delivered and had them all scraped just for the metal. I couldn't even buy a used taillight.

  • @ccrider00

    @ccrider00

    WONDER WHY THEY WANTED TO MAKE A LAW LIKE THAT,JUST TO TO GET RID OF THE JUNK YARDS MAYBE ? LOOKS LIKE THEY THINK THEY CAN DO JUST ABOUT ANYTHING THEY WANT TO DO, DOESN'T IT? ANY thing they want to do, apparently. On another thought, look at all the people who've given up 2 wheels! Most coming to their senses before it's TOO LATE ,hopefully.

    Yes, but it's seasonal and sporadic. Usually, from July to the end of September we get monsoon rain from the Gulf of Mexico. That is when we get the most rain (about 2 inches a month). Some monsoon seasons are wetter than others. This year we had a lot of rain. Usually after October sets in, we get very little rain for 9 months. It's usually dry and sunny, just how I like it
