The Luna…where flight numbers don’t matter.

The 2021 Metallic Z Lunas that are Gold or Silver, with a BUNCH of glitter, that’s where it’s at. Best Luna ever made, Paul threw them at USDGC in 2021 and Idlewild as well.

The thing with AB is, his 500 isn't his full send. Makes a big difference in controlling that spin and not turning it at all.

2020 tours series Z Macbeth is the perfect flight. Dead straight always. The new Collab turns with the same throw. They're taking foreever to drop run 2, so I guarantee they are reworking the mold. This batch is not what people want. If you want a fierce, it's cool.

I throw a 2021 tour series that's pretty stable. when released on hyzer, it'll flip up to flat and still finish at the end. It's great in tailwinds. The original numbers on the Luna were 3 4 0 2, but for some reason Discraft changed them to 3 3 0 3.

Wow what a throw!

No, I didn't try 1000 different Lunas. When I saw my Big-Z Luna do a -2 1 flight (150ft dist), I tried a Stabilizer, and it was the end of that problem. I also like the Challenger putter, and aside from the hint of a bead, is shaped just like a Luna, feels like one, and has a 02 flight. Already far more stable than a Luna. And it costs less. I imagine that the Challenger OS probably gives you that overstable flight you had expected from the Luna, again, at a low price point. Rim width is 11mm for the Luna, 10mm for the Challenger.

Totally agree......i got 4 flipin' Lunas myself. Big Z being two of them.

I have one of those metallic Big Z Lunas from the 2020 or 2021 season and it and every other Luna I've thrown or seen thrown in real life is like a 3 3 0 1 disc or 3 3 -1 1 for the original rubber blend one.

@@MulliganDG They do have the Ringer and Challenger OS but there needs to be something between those and the Zone. Closest to that from DGA is the Breaker, which is worth considering.

I have a yellow daylglow big z luna that looks similar in plastic to the yellow ones AB was throwing. They seem to be more Z blend than ti in the big z, very see through. I love them, got two of them and they seem pretty stable for me. Way more stable than my buddies blue big Z which you can tell has WAY more of the titanium plastic in the mix.

I use the lil z Luna as my overstable run right now

you have to throw it like a putter. I promise when AB throws any putter full force nose down and low its gonna flip over 100% of the time. You have to give it a little hyzer and a lot of height you can’t throw it like a raptor

Counter point is that if you throw MOST any putter nose down and with full power, it will flip over. Problem is that the Luna generally does that in most blends. Newest ones seems to have fixed the problem, but I wonder how it beats in

I think I have several of every plastic blend of Luna and there is not a stable one in the entire bin. By far, the beefest run I own is a max weight Big Z 2021 and it still turns and burns on anything over 100 feet. That said, it's my putter! LOVE the Luna, but the flight numbers are probably the least accurate numbers on a disc ever.

It's all about the Z to TI ratio... I have a new AB that is super flippy (heavier on TI) and an AB that's a meathook and what I actually wanted but it's as transparent as can be (virtually no TI in that blend)... Same deal with the stock Big Z's, the less see through it is, the more flippy it'll be. The clearer it is, the more OS and true to the actual luna numbers it'll be. It took me buying 4 of each to find a truly OS one. Discraft needs to work on factory consistency especially for these special runs but the OS luna's do exist in all big Z runs, you just have to dig around

I'll also add that the most OS luna i own atm is a $18 stock Big Z... not an OG, AB, or any of these special runs. Big Z runs are notoriously inconsistent, the stamp makes no difference in my experiences. I'm assuming the OG's just went much heavier on the Z in the blend since they are consistently more OS

I have one stock luna and it flys like a deputy. I do bag it just for hyzerflip turnovers

They have Z Sparkle Lunas on OTB if you want to try one of those?

I like lunas but I just switched to a pure and I love it! For me It literally does anything I I want it to do

@@MulliganDG just videos showing how the different plastics alter the discs. So like get as many different plastic types of a a popular mid or fairway or driver and compare them like you did with the lunas. Oh or even better, find all the diacs that dont fly anywhere near their flight numbers like the luna and show how they really fly. Kind of exposing the flight number fails and give them some more accurate numbers based off of how you make them fly and also in comparison with something that has accurate flight numbers and it flies just like that. For example i had an active premium rockstar that instead of flying like the numbers of 8/5/-2/1 that are on the disc, it flew like 7/3/0/4. No kidding the thing started fadding about 1/3 of the flight out of my hand and went almist as far left as it went strait on a flat release. Kind of like a tick more understable and slower tilt.

Have you weighed them? Because i have a bunch of differnt Lunas and all the Rubber blend ones are in the 170-172 range and they are pretty straight (3 3 0 1). Meanwhile my 21 tour series is 180g and is more like a 3 3 0 4, its like a glidey Zone

@@MulliganDG yeah just an interesting one really cause to me the Luna flight numbers are accurate. AB throws a 160g rubber blend thats straight. I guess that's why it's such a hot topic. Great video by the way

@@MattRobertsonDG thanks! I just think a lot of people want a stable run and they have yet to give us a good one. all the stable discs are hard to find honestly. Thats a big reason why the new collab luna sold out so fast because everyone thought it was going to be stable.

I totally agree i cannot throw like the pros. But that is why I threw multiple runs and still found a 2020 luna to be stable and the new big z luna to be flippy. My problem is that they advertised it as if it was going to be the stable run everyone wants but it is not. Thanks for the tip!

Agreed completely. I got one of these and they are dope, but they are not stable... even a little bit.

It's funny you mention the Sky God making the Luna look like a Fierce because the Big Z Fierce that I have flies exactly like my Luna's. I got the Fierce thinking it would be under stable but it was more stable than expected then I go to buy Luna's and they are all more under stable than expected. Discraft needs to make the Luna more stable or change the numbers.

Yeah if not the envy then prodigy or disc mania have good stable throwers but I mainly 4hand Toro and Pyro.

Throw it more nose up and you'll get more putter distance and more stability

Agreed….. BUT what was the point of the video? The Luna is not as stable as people expect when they buy it.

i like discraft but their mold consistency is pretty horrible at times. If you find a perfect esp nuke, good luck finding a similar one :S

They let it go on an actual hyzer. And they throw it higher. Adjust your throw for results you want.

@@MulliganDG I think you mean overstable, don't you? You something that fades hard. Stable is what they are doing now - mostly flat - slight turn and fade back gently. The only throws I recall seeing Paul or AB throw Lunas was for a straight flight or a complete hyzer. I think with enough hyzer, they'll just fly on that angle fairly well. I agree about the flight numbers, but they work for me because it's what I'm looking for.

First I should read before I post. Sorry bout that. No big deal. Just letting you know you aren’t releasing on Hyzer. And stable means straight. AB throws them 400+ on a rope. but he lets them go on a steep Hyzer.

@@jaynorris3631 I agree I could fix the angle for sure. But like you can see the 2020 Luna on a rip doesn’t turn and burn where the new one has no integrity. Clearly this is not what people were expecting. Everyone wants the Luna that can handle more torque like those old runs but they just keep releasing flippy runs and I got tired of it lol

Just throw a zone

Im 994 rated and throw the original big z run of luna on 350 plus foot lines all the time(the same lime green ones they throw). You don't throw them with power and neither does Paul or ab. You put spin on them and let the disc work. If I just throw it hard I will rip it over every time. I can go 350 on a high anny or hyzer just spinning it. Once you progress you learn how to throw discs differently to make them work

Thanks for the great feedback! I 100% agree that I could throw them better. I hope you understand my point of this video is not to make me look like a great disc golfer but to see whether or not this disc was a stable run, which it is not. I think we all can agree the Luna can be a little misleading and there are too many people searching for the stable runs of lunas

The guy in the video is correct with the deception of the Luna. The TI Luna look straight to US as well. The number suggest straight to OS. I know numbers aren't an exact science, but a guide. Those flight numbers were controversial from release and are still way off. Those first big Z def have some great HSS compared to most other runs.

You just want an envy.

@@MulliganDG Nope. Its just that luna as a mold is not supposed to be stable / overstable. They are supposed to be straight to understable. No matter what the numbers say. If you want OS putter go for envy or something like that.
