IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE? - MY 1996 WORLD CUP WINNING RETRO BIKE BUILD - EP 1 - ROB WARNER
I've never been a huge fan of keeping old bikes, but I knew if I was ever going to do a retro bike build, it had to be a good one.
Some say it was the most iconic moment in the history of mountain biking, a pivotal moment for the sport. Of course, i'm talking about my iconic World Cup victory in Kaprun, 1996.
Watch as I delve into my dad's museum to find my world cup winning Giant ATX990 frame and start to plan how i'm going to take on the ultimate retro bike build.
Can I even find all the parts to complete this build? I still don't know the answer to that! Make sure to subscribe to find out as we'll keep them coming until she's done.
Enjoy,
Rob

The complete and abject lack of enthusiasm for this bike build project is just the best! 😂👍
Hey Rob Warner! Special thanks to your Dad! Tell him not to worry we understand that he tried his hardest to raise you right but some things in life go sideways! Ride ride ride!
For f**k sake Warner, why haven't you been doing this throughout lockdown?? Comedy gold. I could watch this all day.
You can't help but like Rob Warner. So fucking funny.
Mate no joke, there’s comedians that can’t make me laugh like you do! Absolute geeza!
Rob has become a mix of the dude from phonex nights, Derek and Karl pilkington.
Love that you’re on KZread, could watch your videos and listen to your stories all day!
Looking forward to the next installment. He cracks me up. 👍
Tears rolling down my face, Warner you lyrical legend!
The start just sums it up!! Classic parents
Absolutely buzzing for this. The enthusiasm behind this build 😆😂
Really enjoy watching Rob... Funny bloke, genuine, no bollocks. He could be for bikes like a top gear equivalent.. should be on mainstream TV... Can see him doing like a travel programme too. Would be really funny and entertaining. Someone TV exec should pick him up. And if they do, it's my idea 👍
I love this unique angle on the subject: a reluctant retro build by a man who really can't be bothered with retro bikes! Will have to try that approach on my channel, see how it goes down with the retromtb crew...
I admire your fascination with eggs, they hold heat, and cannot be crushed by the human hand. I am happy to see and hear your content. You are the aggro MVP of Mtn biking.
Awesome these , keep them coming
Rob, Bob was an awesome dad We knew him well !!! I still ride an ATX 880 that I've had since new, took it to Moab when I got married, and still ride it today. Cheers mate . Steve w
Rob I rode at one of your 4x events as a 13yr old at hornton hill in 2004-2005. My dad took me there and it was one of the happiest memories I have with my dad. I’m 30 now. Thank you for throwing that event. The memories of me and my dad will never leave me. Thank you.
Quality, seeing all this gear is bringing out the memories of me practically chucking my bike at you as I faceplanted on Eastridge back in the day. Sold a set of big un/321 about 2 years ago for a couple of hundred notes.

I might also have a front hope C2 that needs a rebuild in the shed, yours if you want it.
Can already tell this is going to be a banger.
This is what the fans wanted, rounding bolts and loosing your shit 😂😂😂👌

I was a fan back in the day, and I'm loving these videos! Making up for lost time man!
Love the passion reminds me of me and my old man and motorbikes
My guy Rob Warner, I'd love to share a big smoke with this guy and hear his stories for days
Oh boy when cameraman mentioned pete's signature that was a good one
Total quality, our Alexa answered when you ask “who’s Rob Warner” 😂😂

Hah.. nice one Kipper! Looking forward to this build. I used to rock the ATX 970, had it sandblasted and painted like the 990 also welded some plates on the headtube like the Kona Stab to prevent that dreaded cracking! 90's for the win!
Rob, I have to say watching you in the shed building your World Cup winning bike sure beats Antiques Roadshow any day of the week. Can't wait to see you show off your mechanic skills in the next instalment. Beard looks great btw😁
Feel like eggs are going to become a big theme for Rob #EggFacts

WHAAAAAAA !!!! My Alexa kept answering Rob !!! loving the pain Rob is in at the thought of having to rebuild this bike. Looking forward to the updates
I’m so pleased you’ve started a KZread, hilarious as always 😂 I was born in ‘96 just to make you feel really good about yourself old chap 😂🤙🏻
Pure entertainment. 👌
Just found this channel and so pleased I did,new addiction on its way.your a leg end rob 👌

Outstanding brilliant I've now subscribed to the Rob Warner history channel 🤣 what an absolutely funny vlog 👌🚴♂️
by far the funniest vlogs on KZread. keep it up Warner
Keep it up Rob this are great
Absolute classic. I had a 990 years ago, it was heavily influenced from the chainspotting film...
The ongoing egg narrative is a delight. As are these videos. High five Rob and Team Trail
What a Legend - Haven't laughed so much in ages - Well done Rob - Can't wait to see you doing 50mph again downhill on that bike once its rebuilt !!! I dare you !!
I've been waiting for more of Warner's Eggs! Wasn't disappointed!
Dave’s chain device!! I ain’t seen one of those bad boys in years!
Man U must have been in the grove that day. Great smile on your face after winning . Best Nicko too . Yewwl
Legend, bloody funny. 😂
Great video Rob Your face and reaction to the RAIN comment and the get Peaty to sign it are great 🤣🤣🤣 They are such harsh comments you took it well 😁 Living the content 🤘
Sweet I have got one in my garage on the wall a sick frame in its day
This is going to be good!
lol bob warner still kicking . what a ledge . I remember buying a honda cub 90 off him about 20 years ago .
Love these video's... can you do more than one a week please ?? You f*****g legend 👊
This is now my favourite channel.
It’s painful that I remember that bike, the magazine clippings etc as if it were yesterday. The days of MBUK and Mint Sauce. I only recently gave away my ‘98 Kona to a collector, Z1 forks, Azonic bits, FSA, Middleburn and those Rob Warner pedals 😫 Brings back the memories.
This is utter comedy genius!
“You got most of it there ‘ant you?” Shit me 😂 We just found the OG Warner!!
22” bars 😄 I remember snapping a set of 22” Titec Hellbents. The Azonic bars were actually pretty wide in the day. The 2” Azonic single wall is still my favourite bar to this day. Just looks spot on. Only snapped one set so far..
Crisp sandwich!!!!! Only a man can eat one of them and a true champ love the vids rob !!!!
Look forward to your weekly video Rob, it's a right laugh. Hero from of mine from the Dirt video. Perhaps you could do a bit of vlog on shooting that iconic video.
Christ, I've still got a DCD in my toolbox....very retro.....and I put a bit of inner tube on the roller to quieten it down back in the day !!!! Memories !!!
I was a Quebec Provincial Champion in 1999! I had an ATX....2. I ran a Manitou fork and changed out the rear shock for a Fox. What a flashback!

Its shit when you drop something though
Can’t wait for this should be laugh 😂 👍🚒
Possibly the bet commentary you've ever done😁 you going to ride the rebuild as a rerun 🤘
don't know why. but please keep some of the egg puns, and bits. it's so fun... and the fact that you keep using them for handwarmers... love it... and the other mtb parts really good as well...
Top Darts. Crisp Sarnies, Eggs from Krypton & the 96' Kaprun bike. Was worried you might re-catch that STI off of the top tube. Keep this shit up.
Best thing on KZread 😂
Awesome
Look at the time.. you legend
Poodles are like half sheep....😂 Warner would be a great bloke to go for a beer with; he’ll have some stories. I remember him riding one of our local riding spots; Hodgemoor Woods.
Top quality content right here 😂
Thanks for the pedals Rob still got the scars😂😂👍
These are so damn funny. Well done boys
Didn’t have to tell me to smash that subscribe button, this is solid comedy gold! And as a bonus, the project might amp up some market demand for the rear Hope Big Un I have to sell! 😂
Man Rob look at the ATX 990 i loved them pedels i remember that bike jeez showing my age lol mavic rims i had Hope hubs on mine and discs see i haven't riddend since 2008 love to test ride a modern bike before (shelling) out for one pardon the pun lol 😂
🤣 🤣 Some funny shit fair play. Warner and Pete do a 90s build off!
🤣🤣🤣🤣That whole thing was hilarious!
Your dad is cool he should be in more episodes and show those old motorbikes in his shed..
Legend, I had the ATX 850 still looking to build up a retro bike, ride a 2017 reign
hahahaha Loving this keep going !
This was excellent, haven’t you got an ATX anymore, first time I heard of you was in mbuk featured with your brother rich both riding them. Golden era
The egg lore throughout the videos is glorious.
Still got my atx990 in yellow also with MRP, biguns hubs, hope pro disks, bomber Z1, massive azonic bar xlite seat and seat post. Think I had to get my cousin to do clever stuff with the bottom bracket to get it to stay together. Got rid of all your mag cuttings, kept the Steve peat dirt win
Egg content was on point
Alexa letting you down was hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
So funny!😂
😂😂😂 PMSL . “ there’s me riding the old girl “ Great work though Rob 👍
I've waited all day to watch this you fucking legend.
Bloody hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
I love the egg theme
This is going to be funny to see if you can make it as original as it was in 96’ 👍😎🔥
Peaty to sign it ahahahaha
That “Krug” Catcher certainly made a few quid for Mr Tomkins. You Warner fans have hard of Krug, right? And MTB legend Pete Tomkins? Love the channel Rob. Love it.
I've got some original Boxxer 151s, the ones that can take rim breaks. The steerer is cracked but the forks still work. That would be great for that build .
