Is This A Game Changer? The Eastonmade Axis Log Splitter.

Ойын-сауық

The Eastonmade Axis has already made its presence felt at our wood yard. We made a lot of firewood this week that would not have been produced without it. This is a well built machine and fits nicely into our style of firewood production!

What I like about that splitter is you have a genuine workstation to spend your day at. Waist level, a smooth, slippery surface to easily manuever material around on, and lots of space for bigger knockoffs. Beautiful machine. I'm seriously thinking about going from our 27 ton Speeco to that one.

Dolmar makes a great saw! You're right, they are smooth running. You pointed out one of the reasons I like the Axis - square firewood. Plus, I don't know what it is about watching you guys use the Eastonmade equipment but it seems like they have nailed the knife; splits like it's going through butter. Keep up the good work!

Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. A xuoer insight into the Axis operation and a thumbs up to your Head of Video Production also, much appreciated. I have always been a vertical splitter fan due to accuracy of split size and minimal wood movement on the splitting table. The Axis 14 ton capability also proves you don't need massive tonnage to produce the goods. I used to produce 150 cords a year using a 13 ton Thor splitter run by a 9hp Robin engine - but no lift or conveyor! I suffer from cold feet in wintertime so use a wooden mat made from D shaped fencing planks held together by webbing straps to insulate me from the ground. Some guys use sawdust as an insulator but I am hyper about trip hazards. Keep on Splitting!!

Looks like you took the advice on keeping your hands on the side of the round to save your thumbs. Bad habits are easy to form and when you are splitting for hours the mind tends to wander. About the motor running flat out, I might verify that with Eastonmade. Often you can run hydraulics at a slower RPM and the force/pressure is the same, the speed of the cylinder is just reduced. Might save the hearing and the fuel bill if you're not in a big rush to throttle down a bit. Nice machine and very interested in how the Briggs & Stratton motor holds up.

You might want to try those fire wood bags you hang from your tractor forks. Go from your conveyor straight into the bag. Holds about 1/3 of cord. Saw Mike Morgan use them recently in his fire wood operation. On Outdoors with the Morgan’s. Save you on handling process and they will season faster in the bags. Enjoy your videos.

I am looking into a bulk solution. Bags may be the way to go but not sure. I think to use bags properly you will need a trommel to clean the chaff from the splits...don't want them in the bag. I also don't think the wood will season faster in a bag vs stacked but I am open to any studies or evidence otherwise. Joe

Joe, another great video. The rapid evolution of your business is incredible. Your focus on safety and quality will pay long-term dividends. I was wondering/ worried about splits kicking out, particularly when resplitting a smaller piece. Glad to hear no issues. I also noticed what I assume was a wheel barrel just off camera. Occasionally you threw an ugly piece off to the side. Those little things make a difference so you don't have to worry about your helper loading a bad split a year from now. Great job to both you and Emily, as always 👏

I can say with first hand knowledge that those Dolmar chainsaws are bomb proof ( at least the old one's) we had several sizes,my Dad used his (no anti vib in those days) for felling the largest hardwoods we encountered. He retired to France and the Dolmar went too,as he got older he went for a lighter machine and finally to an electric saw. When he asked me "do you want the Dolmar"I said no,as i have a good Stihl back home in UK. The gypsies called one day and Dad sold some things to them including the big Dolmar....oh well. He passed in March 2018 and gave his body to Angers Uni Hostpital.

A method I use is a stihl or other style of jerk pruner saw. It can go in your scabbard when not using it, but the saw is 16 inches from butt of the handle to tip of the blade. I just jerk the saw and make a cut all the way through the bark and I to the wood,
