A gentleman I know was getting older (72) & he wanted his wife (75) to be safer & more comfortable. He feared his wife would be injured if he dropped the bike or fell over on two wheels. She said the TriGlide was easier & more stable for her to get on & off of with her bad hip & put to rest her fear of going down. Which put her mentally & physically at ease. She then became willing to ride more often. (hidden benefit)

Motorman: Thanks for the great video on Trikes. As a fellow retired motor officer I've been on 2 wheels for over 40 years. But with time and age come health issues. In 2022 I was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. The two surgeries and countless radiation and chemo treatments left me with neuropathy in both my feet, so holding up my 900 bs Electra Glide became somewhat problematic and dangerous. So In August of this year I gave up the 2 wheeler for a Tri-Glide Ultra. Best move I ever made. I've found that some of the basics we were taught as motor officers still apply to the trike. Head and Eyes and friction zone. Thanks for all the great videos over the years.

Hello Jerry, my wife and I both have Harley Triglides. We had to because our knees were giving out and unable to hols them up while stopped. They are fantastic. I thought I would hate it after riding 56 years, but it has really made our riding great. We are 70.

Good for you Mike! I’m not there yet but I’m thinking I’d much rather have a trike than some convertible car. I love the wind, fresh air, smells, as well as the feel (vibrations) and sound of the motorcycle. The fact that it has an extra wheel would be something I’d learn to live with. Enjoy your ride until Paradise!!

Jerry, when solo I ride a 22 Street Glide, two-up it's on a Can-Am F3T. When my hips and knees began to get real bad, I realized that I could no longer depend on my ability to hold up that 900 pound motorcycle with the spousal unit and a full load of luggage aboard. We looked at trikes and settled on the F3T, which gave her confidence and made it easier for her to get on and off. I have no trouble knowing whether to put my feet down or not as the two machines are very different. Having two wheels up front means you're looking at the widest part of the trike and never scuffing the rear fenders, which I've seen folks do on a few HD and other trikes. We've ridden the Tri-Glide and the Road King 3 and so far the spousal unit prefers the Can-Am. By the way, you might want to try one just for fun... when ridden solo, you can throw the F3 (the RT tourer, not so much) around and have some fun with it. You can ride it a lot harder than the "conventional" HD trikes. But as you say, in the end it's what works for the rider - or the passenger as if I drop myself in the intersection, that's my problem; drop the spouse in the intersection and not only will I never eat good again, but she knows where I sleep!

We also purchased a anniversary Tri-Glide. My wife had a hip replacement shortly before we had it delivered. My first ride on it, I was oversteering. It felt like it was dipping back and forth. I learned to relax and not muscle it. Also on my first ride, I did put my feet down. LOL! We have #1011 of 1100. I like riding it but not nearly as much as my 2002 Road King or my Hot Rod 86 Soft Tail Custom.

We got the wife a Triglide CVO and you’re right it’s a different animal. But, we’ve taken it to Sturgis, Milwaukee, Reno for a local a local HOG rally and other places here in the NW. on the twistys it’s more work but, just as much fun. Great for long distance touring. Even with 2up and pulling a trailer I can still pass folks at 90 with no effort. I still have a Lowrider ST for the 2 wheel adventures. They are not for everyone but, it keeps you riding. Oh, btw, our local HOG chapter about 20% of members have/ ride trikes.

We have a 23 Freewheeler and it’s a blast. Just gets a bit getting used to but once you are it’s lots of fun. For those who have bad backs, knees, other health issues or even age a Trike is the way to go. Knees In The Breeze is all that counts. When taking curves sometimes you need to slow a bit, but that’s alright. As far as “Leaning” you can a bit, because centrifugal force will push you opposite the turn you’re taking, so I lean a bit and forward.

You dont have to be old or disabled to get one. Hell my Freewheeler is more comfortable on long distance rides than my SG. I sometimes struggle with choosing which one to ride sometimes. I usually ride it when i cruise with my pops. He still rides on 2. Hes 65. He just likes to cruise though. 5mph over the speed limit. Take in the sights type riding. Strict 500 miles a day lol but around town its really fun as well. Ive circled Houston many of times on the backroads on the Freewheeler. You can forget your on 3 wheels sometimes

Jerry, the reason why so many people are asking you about trikes is because they are becoming increasingly popular. And, it's not just older riders. There seems to be lots of younger riders who like the hot-rod look of the Freewheeler and Road Glide 3. That said, I suspect there are other reasons for younger riders to consider trikes, and that might be related to family and safety issues. Yes, riding a trike still has a risk factor, but you have to admit that it's safer than two wheels. By the way, I'll take a trike any day over a convertible sports car.

I have long time riders I know (friends) that have gone to trikes. One is a CanAm the other a Harley trike. I tried the CanAm. Weirdest thing I have ever put my ass on! I can see all the reasons people say they buy them for, but for me the handling is strange and so is the ride. We take our Mustang convertable instead of entertaining the idea of a trike. I did go from a Electra Glide to a Honda CB500X and it is the most fun on a bike I've had since high school - light, agile and an absolute blast in corners. Now I do more back roads and gravel too! I don't miss the Harley at all!

I heard a story of a person who purchesed a trike years ago. As he was leaving the Harley parking lot he went to turn left at speed to the highway. He pushed forward the left grip. The trike went right and he clipped the right fender on his brand new ride on a light pole. He got it back to dealer and told the salesman "it won't counter steer".

I was diagnosed with MS and Cushing's. I love 2 wheels, but my confidence was low, and I want to ride. This bike is a blast. There is a learning curve. My arms were getting tired until I figured out to push my handlebar more. Problem solved. It corners great. It has a ton of storage, and once I figured it out the shifting etc in turns is smooth. Best decision I could have made!

I have had a 2010 Street Glide Trike for years now. My one tip is, to watch the road ahead of you... what you don't hit with the front wheel your 2 in back in will. The upper body is important for these. I do not think it is like a car at all. This can roll over if you throttle on in a curve too fast. BTW I have a Softail Deluxe and a Nightster also, There was no special reason to buy the trike other than I thought it was a cool bike to ride in between the other two. I am now fully into the trike. I love it for distance.

I think these may work for non-motorcycle riders or owners, or the infrequent rider. I have never seen one of these do anything well but run in a straight line, on a smooth road. Even with all the added electronics, the solid rear axle really is a set back through the twisties. Great money maker for HD though, I see them all over now that they have 5 or 6 to choose from

Jerry, I just recently started riding on the streets. I’m 56 and grew up on dirt bikes and trail bikes from the time I was 8. I quit riding them when I was around 33. A couple years back I bought a tiny Grom like bike and started street riding. I sold it and got a used 2009 HD Sportster. I began watching your channel among a few others for tips and training. I’m waiting for cooler weather to take a in person class. I also recently bought a 2015 HD Freewheeler. I have to disagree with you that trikes are just for old geezers with physical issues. The trike market has exploded with not just HD but Can Am and even younger riders. I actually love both the Sportster and the trike. When riding my wife, she definitely prefers the trike. They both have their place. The trike seems more stable, more comfortable and has more road presence which gives the feeling of more safety. Thanks for all you do!

"You Meet the Nicest People on a (not "in")Honda". That was the tag line from the 1960's for Honda's legendary advertising campaign to woo American out of their cars or cages and onto two wheel motorcycles. The success of this ad-campaign laid the foundation for all of motorcycledom today. I can't imagine the buy-out investor team decoupling the Motor-Company from the then parent corp AMF if not for Honda's marketing success. Vaughn Beals, Richard Teerlink and the others (including Willie G.) understood that the success of any motorcycle venture hinges on marketing. Today, in terms of marketing, H-D is the world's leader with the #1 brand recognition. So just like Harley knows how to build motorcycles, they know how to market them. Furthermore, as Harley has been in one shape, form or another, been building 3-wheelers for almost their entirety, they clearly understand the need for this type product for their most loyal customers and can branded it, without any stigma,.....Harley-Davidson.

u mean it feels way different from a two wheeled mc, because a trike is still a mc. yes it felt downright odd to take a corner without leaning and u have to slow way down for corners too; not built for twisties to be sure. it's not nearly as much fun as a two wheeled mc but hey, it still goes vroom vroom and i'm a cruising kinda gal. i wanted to go cross country and in this mc i can safely lock up all my gear. i didnt even want to worry about someone walking off with that stuff.

Since I know the correct techniques, and I'm well aware that a motorcycle takes no strength to hold up when stopped, I'll never have to go to a trike. For the most part, the riders who have never had any training, are the ones who have problems keeping the bike up right. Those are the people who HAVE to go to a trike when they get older.

No, there is no trike in my future. If I can't lean through the curves I am not riding. I will move down to lighter and lighter bikes if it becomes a strength thing holding the Road Glide up, but the only advantages I see with going to a trike is because you are embedded in the culture in addition to the riding.
