Is The Toyota Prius (First Generation) A Good Investment Or Sale Proof?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We reviewed a 2002 Toyota Prius First Generation Hybrid. This is one of the first mass produced hybrid cars to sell in the US, and this model is one of the more normal looking Toyota Prius models and they're getting harder and harder to find. Is the First Gen Toyota Prius a good investment or sale proof?

Ironically, I had an uncle who was a maritime engineer in Poland and he had this idea way back in the early 1980s. I remember him telling me, why not capture the energy when breaking and then use it to accelerate. He pretty much described exactly how Prius hybrids operate.

My 2001 was one of the first sold in the United States. I had to initiate the buying process through Toyota corporate who provided the letter to me to allow the dealership to sell me the Prius. Corporate was concerned the car would be so popular dealerships would add on a premium and wanted to avoid that. I had that car for two years and loved it. When I learned Toyota was changing the body style to a hatchback I bought a new 2003 because I needed a trunk. The 2003 even had a navigation system! It is controlled by five map CDs in a player below the front passenger seat and satellite connectivity. I sent at least 25 people to this dealership to buy a Prius. Each time they bought one I was given a check for $50 from the dealership. I still own that 2003 and use it as my daily driver, 206,000 miles. It is absolutely the finest car I have ever owned

I had one of these for about 3 years. It was 18 years old when I bought it on 100k. It was rock solid reliability wise. Completely over engineered. I only got rid of it because my catalytic converter kept getting stolen. It was absolutely pristine and it had the factory fitted sat nav too. Everything still worked (including the air con) Basically it felt like a new car. So well made.

Great review and comprehensive. I will say that with the removal of the Two Bolt, the rear seats do in fact fold down! For North America they were bolted up due to legislation at the time. A simple mod and my Prius practicality was unbelievable. I loved this car so much and even retrofitted factory navigation (which was terrible even for the time, making a 'legal U-turn' on a highway, really!!!). But cost of repairs was heinous and the 12V battery a whopping $550 every 2.5 years obliterated any fuel savings. But it drove excellently, extremely refined and was faster on the highway than the second gen Prius due to its tremendous torque figure. Also, it still has the highest in EV mode Top Speed of any Toyota Hybrid at 67km/h!!!

I love the prius. If you hold the gas pedal down a quarter or the way it engages the gas and electric really well for good acceleration. I discovered that in my 2013 fusion hybrid. It's the same for all hybrids wirh ecvts. I smoked a new corolla hybrid from the light! He was trying too. Wasn't close 😂

If you can have the rust cut out and replaced I'd do it. Here are my reasons why: 1) If it's still reliable & you know it's an honest car, the cost of welding will be cheaper than buying another car. 2) If you get rid, do you know whether your next car will be reliable? 3) They're cheap to run so the money you've saved will cover the cost of repair. 4) You won't have to go through the hassle of tyre kickers & chancers when you sell it. 5) You'll be saving an iconic car. Good luck!
