It's so okay to be motivated by it but in the end don't beat yourself up if your day isn't all sunshine and productivity. Know that social media is just a highlight for the good parts of people's lives.

I really appreciate the critical thought towards the trend in this video and I wanted to add another perspective! I see the trend as classist and ableist if I’m being completely honest. The aesthetic associated with the trend, as Nina said, is linked to the able bodied white girl who meets contemporary beauty standards, and has access to the resources, such as money, that allow them to have the things associated with this trend, the time to do all of these things, and again the capable body and access to gyms, etc to complete the look. I don’t think there is anything wrong with living your best life, but your best life looks different for everyone and the homogenized ideal, as in any idealized trend, mostly serves to make those who can’t achieve it feel less than. That’s my take on it!

Yo the consumerism point is 👌🏼👌🏼 it’s the moment of purchasing those things (eg. notebooks, yoga mats… etc.) that give u gratification, and u think ur being productive just by buying them. Most ppl don’t even use them afterwards.

I'm sorry but I'm a little confused. If this trend is about living a healthy lifestyle and showing how they deal with stress then why is it problematic? I get how constantly seeing photoshopped images of models can be damaging and problematic. This is my first time hearing about the "THAT girl" trend.

@@ScrollTD I don't think it's fair to say she's a hater. Also, this apparently isn't a viewpoint unique to her so to just write it off as "hatin ass women" isn't a responsible thing to do. Plus she goes to MIT for computer science I don't think there is much for her to hate on lol.

the point here is that constantly trying to force yourself into a trendy lifestyle of perpetually being on top of your game could potentially lead to burnout and more stress and anxiety. its a dangerous game to play if u have this mindset that u are living a shitty lifestyle by waking up at 10am and eating fastfood at times, ...it doesn't mean u can't be productive if u wake up at 9am / 10 am/ 12pm/ 2pm... At the end of the day , its how u prioritize ur time and the that girl trend is problematic as it oversimplifies the idea of having an ideal lifestyle given that everyone's lifestyle is different and the that girl trend is definitely not a one size fit all solution that guarantees productivity .and in the long run, it could lead to burnout

+ the financial burden!! not everyone can afford those lattes, books, rugs, scented candles, home decor, pretty clothing, and all that aesthetic stuff. I'm sorry but I don't wake up to have the most beautiful room (or even having a room by myself) and I can't afford those things. But what is being showcased is just these people living the best lives ever (which I'm happy about) but it can make others, who can't live that lifestyle, to feel bad about themselves. Someone working a low paying job, doesn't has the time and/or money to live that kind of "that girl" lifestyle, and it can lead to a feeling of inferiority. and what if you do end up following this trend but you realise you still don't look like "that girl". That skinny white aesthetic girl who is highly privileged, not everyone can simply achieve that. but yes, I do think there are quite a few positives as well but you just can't ignore the negatives. have a good day and I hope you are fine :))

I also feel some type of way when I watch videos of other college kids with internships and such so I can sympathize with what girls must feel when they watch "THAT girl" videos.
