Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but this beholder thinks the CX-5 wins the beauty contest easily. Unfortunately there's more to a good SUV or CUV than a pretty face. For 2021 Mazda has tweaked their best selling vehicle to make the turbo engine more affordable and improve the navigation/infotainment system. Is it enough to make the CX-5 a top pick? Let's find out.

We just bought a red 2021 CX-5 Signature. We love the heads-up display with traffic sign recognition, the ventilated seats (for Texas summers), and the adaptive headlights that are fully automatic (drl/on/high) and turn with steering around corners. We shopped it against the Volvo XC-40 and the BMW X1 as well as the models you listed. In real world driving, the drive train is plenty peppy when you need to get out of your own way or pass a truck spilling gravel.

I owned a 2018 CR-V until very recently, when I traded it in for a 2021 CX-5 w/ turbo. The Mazda is ahead in terms of build quality, panel gaps, fit & finish, & interior materials. In terms of driver engagement, it's a long way ahead: handling, turn-in, throttle response, acceleration etc. Mazda is in a nice niche here, & worth a close look if you're on a budget but still looking for something more than another dull appliance on wheels.

I know that seems silly to complain about, but it's completely useless. It's set to be an armrest for the infotainment nob and not an armrest for steering, if that makes sense. It's so far back, you can't physically have your right arm near the wheel and on the armrest at the same time. Maybe I'll get used to it, but it's noticeable arm fatigue compared to my other cars.

The Signature CX-5 (with the turbo) was a blast to drive, but with all the bells and whistles, the price was reaching that of a new 2021 4Runner 4X4. I wish that I could own them both, but the better financial decision for me was the 4Runner. If all I were doing was mostly city driving, the CX-5 would have been my choice. Having just returned from a 1,700km round trip holiday to Northern NSW (Australia), I swear buy the ‘touchless screen’. Please note that in the Australian 2.5 Turbo GT spec, there are two USB outlets in the rear arm rest. Overtaking is a breeze rather than off the line punch, which is often related to the final drive ratio, not just torque. Try doing an 80-140km/h test and I think it will be quite stunning. I'm in the same boat as you brother. I really want this car but there's a couple of things that's holding me back. I heard uncomfortable seats for big people. I heard they might be releasing a 6 cylinder in 2022 or 2023. I also heard in Canada like their infotainment system and certain features for some reason aren't on the new models. So I want to make sure I have all the bells and whistle that this vehicle has to offer. I think for me the decision is going to have to be when I actually drive the car and sit in it and see if it has a space in the back that I need.

5:54 There are 2 USB ports in the backseat armrest. And having to use the dial, knob, and buttons to control the Infotainment System is an upgrade from the touchscreen. The controls are easier to use than the touchscreen, and more comfortable, imo.

Hey Alex love the videos. I’m not sure if I like the newer transmissions in vehicles that just have more gears. In practice with more gears you can have a more aggressive start gear, and less gaps between gears, which should mean more acceleration. But when I compare a 2007 Honda Odyssey with the 3.5, and 5 speed transmissions and front wheel drive to a, 2020 Lexus RX 3.5 non hybrid with the 8 speed and all wheel drive I prefer the Honda. Though those two cars are very different vehicles, the Honda is just as fast roughly. Sure it’s harder to get a perfect start, because it likes to spin all the way to 30 mph😂, but they seem to be very matched. Lexus weighs I think 4,500 where the Honda weighs just about the same. The Lexus has the eight speed, Honda has the 5 speed, Lexus has 295 horsepower and 267 lb ft of Torque compared to the Honda at 244 hp, and 240 lb ft of torque. I tried to find wheel torque and the Lexus has more, so it should be faster at least at lower speeds. Maybe it’s just Honda’s magic dust they sprinkled on it, or the fact the engine builds power much more linearly, or the fact it is a much much more responsive car to the Lexus. I typed all this, because I still wonder to this day how that Honda manages what it can do. I do realize that the Lexus has really no intention of going fast, but it still puzzles me. Keep up the great work👍

Push forward to downshift and pull back to upshift is correct as it apes every sequential gearbox I can think of. Because race car. When you’re accelerating, you’re being pushed back into your seat so it feels natural to pull back when changing up. Braking is opposite pushing the driver against the belts so you don’t strain against g forces when changing down. Got it?

In Italy market is heavily affected by sales taxes, and when we have to spend that lot of money we're not consider as really important parameters like 0,5 inches more for legs in back seats or a little more space in cargo space. I would love to buy the 2.5 turbo charged version. Unfortunately in our country the max is the 2.2 D with 184hp ( about 328 ft-lb torque).

If there was more room in the cargo area, they would have to take some room away from the back seat area. If that doesn't work for you, then getting the CX-9 might work. It gives more room in the cargo area without taking away the room in the back seat area. If that doesn't work, then maybe, you're just trolling.

I had rented a 2021 CX5 for a week. Two things which made me drop it from my shopping list: 1. The driver seat lacked the depth (specially the bottom cushion) for a someone with longer legs. 2. The screen controls were annoying with the wheel. For example, when I wanted to quickly zoom out on Google maps, it was soo tedious than just pinching the screen. Very distracting. So, yeah no cx5 for me. Still need to test RAV4 and CRV. Probably used Q3 and X3 too.

The cons are: key fob button easy to click by mistake. The screen is not touchscreen. The gas consumption for both turbo and non turbo is too high (10.8-9.8). The usb port in the rear are not easily accessible. The rear cargo and rear passenger room could be larger. Tyres size. No panoramic moonroof. No hybrid version. (Mazda , Don’t forget 2035 limit in quebec. It is time to start alternatives)

I bought a 2021 CX-5 GTR and I prefer using the knob than touchscreen. While driving you must focus on the screen to precisely select a specific part of the screen with the knob you develop those reflexes that don't require you to watch the screen as much. It's for the best although there are times i wish i could touch but my screen stays nice and clean with no finger prints so i guess we'll leave it at that \_0_0_/

Good review. I test drove the RDX. I like the engine, the handling and more space. I did not like the steering feel or brake feel. It also cost 10 grand more than the cx5. Is the cx5 perfect? No, I think the driver seat should provide more thigh support. The steering wheel could be thicker. While the 6 sp transmission is old, it is still quick to down shift. Also cx5 has better fuel economy than the RDX

I will never understand why Mazda invested so much money in the Skyactiv-X engine, which ended up being quite disappointing, when they could have used that money for an eight/ten speed auto that would have increased the acceleration and efficiency across its entire lineup. Same goes for how they did there tech integration. I can't consider it s premium car when it misses big in two key areas. The have also had time to correct this.and still nothing. Just a bummer on an otherwise great offering. I appreciate Alex's honest review. He did discuss this and its always appreciated.

My '18 CX-5 Grand Touring developed a cracked head at 32,000 requiring an engine replacement (which was covered) and a leaky head at 44,000. Traded at that point. Shame because it's the only car I've ever owned that never got any squeaks, vibrations, shimmies or noise and the interior quality was on par with German brands. Also the paint is soft. Looks sandblasted from normal driving. It developed a rust spot on the quarter panel from a tiny rock chip. They just need better engines than that 2.5L. Design and interior build quality are on point though. Mazda has a lot of strong points, but they are not perfect. That was my experience.
