At the price a mineral crystal is a deal breaker. Too bad because it looks like a great watch otherwise.

Thanks for your detailed video on this watch . Just this past Friday my NY0129-58L arrived. I’m loving this watch the blue textured dial is amazing 🤩 in sunlight. The one thing I noticed about the bezel on this watch that’s very unique is above the teeth of the bezel is a polished surface that really is a beautiful look to a rugged Japanese bezel . As far as being better than or replacing the beloved SKX hmmmm that’s interesting question. I own the SKX009K but also own it’s Citizens rival the NY086 Fugu pro master diver as well. I almost think that’s a more comparable watch to the SKX than this new Citizen’s watch we both now own . This new Citizen’s seems more similar to my original Orient Triton with power Reserve because of its thickness and lug to lug length. I think our new Citizens watch is also has a Seiko 62MAS vibe or look to it . I do agree that it would of been awesome to have a sapphire crystal but I really do like the design of the crystal that does have a vintaged domed box crystal look . I really look forward to your follow up review and thoughts on this fantastic new Citizen’s diver 👍🏻💯

Great looking watch. Got mine on the tropic strap. I like a snug fit.

Seems like a good buy, looking forward to the full review. Dive watches aren't really my thing but aesthetically I think the SKX is marginally the better of the two. Shame it's not a bit smaller for those with a slim wrist.

I've had the blue version for a couple of months and I'm enjoying it. I paid $245USD without a tank and feel that it's a good watch for the money.

Lol, I've had quite a few Citizen promasters over the years and the only one that had the dive tank packaging was my Orca I got a week ago. I've also had this clasp on a couple of citizens including the Orca. It's well designed and a big step up to what comes on a similarly priced Seiko.

As a small wrist person, which is a disability, the dimensions are a shame to me.

So Citizen sends DIFFERENT color tanks with their different model divers? WOW! Who knew? I have to of their Eco Drive Promaster divers (one black, one blue), and they both came in light grey tanks.

I think that i would take a 300$ watch rather than a 800$ watch to dive for real. And on that case the mineral crystal is a better choice. I dont think true skx fans would like this instead, most of them dont like Citizen, like you cant love both😂 I think its a great watch, i dont mind the rotor noise and i think the movement is better than the 7s26. Bracelet ofc and a toolish clasp. Although seikos are totally pressed and at entry level and have rubbish extension, they are comfy. Bottom line this is a superior clasp. Overall great watch at this price, would appreciate a totally flat crystal with more ar.. Enjoy wearing it.. 😊

Totally 💯 agree I got the NY0129-58L blue bezel, blue dial this past Friday and definitely think it has a 62MAS look and vibe to it .

Citizen make one in a 39mm size, add sapphire glass, and remove the day date, and you've got a gem

Great design, but mineral and miyota 8 kills it. Looks like Kamasu is still champion and for lower price.

I looked at this but it's just too thick. I prefer the SanMartin water ghost v3 with a PT5000 which I bought..

That's a fenomenal watch as well

The Japanese makers don't appear to trust sapphire for real divers, better a scratched mineral on a working watch than a shattered sapphire crystal. Nice watch 👍

Sapphire crystal is generally superior to mineral. All the best modern dive watches don't have mineral crystals for a reason.

The citizen Fugu, the 1000m professional diver, the Fujitsubo and all the other dive watches above entry level have sapphire, not mineral..

Citizen is what old Seiko used to be

Hmm, no, I think Orient Kamasu (RA-AA000x) is still the best (if we're talking mechs only). In comparison with this particular model, I mean RA-AA0001B. Because better movement, because sapphire, because slimmer profile... All at around the same price. And the bracelet is too heavy for me on both, so I'd immediately swap it to a steel mesh (like I did on the Kamasu) or a NATO strap.

Except the Kamasu is not diver certified. For a desk diver or "sports watch" a Kamasu is fine. But for actual diving, I will take a watch that has been certified and tested to 125% rated depth for two hours.

You criticize the Citizen for not having a sapphire crystal, but neither did the SKX. So I'm not sure why you would hold Citizen to a standard that you don't hold Seiko to.

I criticized the SKX a lot for not having a Sapphire, but that was a watch from the mid 90s. I criticized Seiko much more for not having Sapphire on their 5KX line!

@@Horologique Yes, it does seem kind of silly that "legitimate" watch companies appear unable to offer sapphire crystal on pieces costing hundreds of dollars, but somehow "shady" homage brands like Pagani Design, can include things like a ceramic bezel insert and sapphire crystal in a watch costing less than a Benjamin. Makes you wonder who the real crooks are. That being said, for a "Dive Watch" that I plan to wear at depth, I'll give up a sapphire crystal for ISO dive certification every time.

The mineral crystal is a breaker.

the mineral crystal is a big let down for me.........a hard pass on this one
