They should’ve kept the 8 speed DCT from the ILX. It was reliable and smooth due to the torque converter added for low speed shifting. It was different from other DCTs in that aspect. It was a good transmission and I don’t even really like DCTs in general.

The ILX is on a completely different platform. This chassis and power train is shared with the Civic and would require significant re-engineering to accept a DCT. The manual is available for enthusiasts, otherwise buyers of the CVT probably won’t care (or know) too much about it. Seems like it does a good enough job of simulating gears for the average Jane or Joe who will be driving the CVT.

This is basically a Civic Si+ with a lot of nice stuff... but the CVT makes it viable for the average driver (Where 95% of its sales are going to come from). The only reason you're getting this in a manual is because the local Honda dealers are marking up the Civic Si through the roof ($5000+ over MSRP) and getting one of these in a manual isn't that much more expensive.

The fit and finish is great, looks are fine, solid platform, but I was not a big fan of the cvt and 1.5. The manual and lsd should be offered on more trims. I agree with Joe, it needs a bit more power. The ilx has more get up and go. It would have been ideal to have the detuned 2 l and their 10 speed. Even better a rebuilt 8 speed dct with the lsd. In some ways, Acura took 2 steps forward and 1 step back.

wait for the Type S Integra. Its going to have the 2.0 Accord Turbo charged engine in it. My guess is its probably going to be about $43K. It will be interesting because the TLX A Spec FWD is $45K with the 2.0 engine so it will be interesting to see what Honda/Acura does with the pricing once the Integra Type S comes out.

Another awesome video. August 2022. I just test-drove this exact same blue, 6-speed MT at my local dealer. I enjoyed it but was not blown away. I would've loved Joe's opinion about 6th gear and Reverse. I found that 6th gear and Reverse were dangerously close together, there wasn't much in the way of "reverse lockout" and only a little bit of "extra push right" separates the two gears. I saw some videos where Ford makes drivers pull up an o-ring and my old Mazdaspeed needed to press the whole shift knob down to get over to reverse. Until I got used to the shifter during my test drive, I kept thinking that somebody shifting to 6th gear to cruise is just gonna throw it into reverse and blow everything up.

Joe! I need your opinion, my man. I'm about to purchase an Integra but I can't decide between the CVT & Manual. Unfortunately, my daily commute is highway driving to work with traffic almost every morning and evening on the way home. My gut says to get the CVT it's actually pretty good and I won't suffer in traffic. But, what's your opinion from an experienced manual driver. Is it that bad in traffic almost twice a day for 30-40 mins? Let me know!

@@King_riotvcorrect, and In a couple of months or even weeks you might be able to get Hondata carb legal tunes for this. K tuner will also be there as well in the coming months …. Can’t go wrong with either. As bad as cvts are they can be extremely sporty and fast; and the 1.5T is good…I’m speaking about the L15B7 which was used in the previous gen civic… the New L15CA is stronger and now has VTC on the intake and VTEC on the exhaust side like the k20c that is used in the new Honda/Acura products today. (Accord,RDX,fk8 type r, etc.) I can imagine how crazy it will be in the coming months and years…A lot of people 💩 on it because they hear it’s just a 1.5LT engine… the b16 and b18 were not much larger but they became legendary both stock and in the aftermarket. There is no reason why the L15 shouldn’t have a chance to show what it’s got. But congrats on your decision, I think black with the carbon spoiler dealer accessory will really make this a very unique spec.

@Ed Findlay I think or at least hope it can do better than 7.2 in more standardized testing. The Accord 1.5T CVT can do 7.3 (and 7.2 manual) and it's about 100-200 lbs heavier than the Integra. So I'm thinking an Integra could do 6.9 or 7.0 with a proper launch. A Civic Si is 100 lbs lighter and can do 6.8.
