Bring back the 90's when people live in the moment and not tried to record it

It's the ones that don't put their phones down. By all means take a few clips as a momento, but don't be glued to the f*cker

Theres no phones on the dancefloor today in berlin. Its club policy but its also policed by the crowd who will actively tell you to put your phone away. Some underground clubs in london are also like that i would say The Cause is one of them

As a 16yo growing up in a generation that can't take a normal conversation without pulling out their phone after 30 seconds, I can't even imagine how relieving phone bans would be. Not only in nightclubs. I think I really started to hate mobile phones and even more because you can't be part of the society without them

Todays Djs are only booked if they have thousands of Instagram folowers etc.....specially female Djs......thats one of things i decided quit and now i just have studio gear to produce stuff...DJ no more.....Thats was my wise decision....

I agree a lot now are on phones when out at an event spending most of there time telling everyone online, rather than just enjoying the moment.

I think it's foolish to pay money to see and dance to a DJ set and then spend all this time on social media instead. People should vibe with the beat, not facebook.

The vibe is in yourself, but yes too many phones. If I had the money to open a club I would make it vinyl only and not many light so the phones can’t record anyway 😂

Many DJs became part of that circus by recording themselves during the performance. For this reason, a year ago I returned to turntables and buying records. I threw the controllers and cards in the box. I started to feel disgusted with myself looking at my laptop and practically doing nothing. It's sad to perform today and see those people in front of you shooting the flashes of their phones.

Exactly. While I was only paid a fee as a DJ here and there when I was young-so far from a serious pro-I completely lost interest when laptops and controllers started to take over. For a start, control surfaces and even CDJs just looked like a Fisher Price Starship Enterprise. I had no motivation to learn how to use megaFX and loopers and hot cues, even though for a while I did. Just for fun, I started playing exotica/latin/psych/funk, putting on a small night at a bar two minutes from my house. People absolutely love it when there’s a guy with real records and it’s been so popular I may book a bigger venue soon. One couple in attendance asked me to play their wedding-a couple too young to remember when vinyl DJs were the norm.

Another occurrence is people coming up with Spotify open on their phone and saying: _Can you play this?_ I did a gig at a posh school, and within 5-10 minutes of starting the music, there was a group of 12 kids at the foot of the stage, all with phones in hand, ready to ask if I had what was immediately essential. It was laughable. Once upon a time they would get on the floor and dance, and now they are queuing, waving screens in my face. I got on the mic and said: _Guys - put your mobiles away now and just enjoy the music that is on offer! Listen, dance, be happy. Stop being slaves to your mobile phones._ It worked!

Phones are absolute vibe killers. Period. Even the light from a phone screen when someone looks after time is disturbing the atmosphere. Do that off the dancefloor. Maybe Im too much into that underground techno scene but I can assure that every magical night where the crowd connects to the DJ over the music there are no phones involved. At all. Im glad that many clubs I attend are distributing stickers for smartphone cameras to set signs and discourage people from using their phone. Enjoy yourself and your surroundings in that night.

Mobile phones create too many distractions so they are not focused on the music anymore. Just look at what happens at the Cafe Del Mar in Ibiza, they are supposed to go there for the music and watch the sunset. But instead they look at their mobile phones, it is so dumb.

I can say this is not only the case for dance floors but also for concerts. There is no denying these are different times we are living in but I can’t help feeling memories are best absorbed rather than recorded. It does irk me to see it and I feel it does dilute the atmosphere a bit. Perhaps I’m just an old dog but although I spin vinyl and dvs now in the bedroom, I feel the free parties in the 90s wouldn’t have been the same at all with the digital element there on the decks and in the crowd. Just my take of course.

Utter rubbish, if you can't fill a dancefloor in today's events, you need to stop being a DJ, I'm sure James Hype says to his audience " oh can you get off your phones please, its killing the vibe" lol

A mobile phone will only ruin a dance floor if the music is wrong, if the music is right people’s attention is on the music, lose that interaction and you lose the floor…..that being said the mobile phone will act as your advertisement if you are good.
