When I last went there the passport control was so unorganised that some people just wandered through without being seen by an officer (there was another officer behind the next corner that took bribes from those that went through without getting a stamp). Luggage took almost 2h in the middle of the night. On departure there was an officer that tried to scare me into a bribe by the luggage check before check-in, telling me my passport looked fake. He took it from me, asking for a little consideration until I threatened to call my embassy repeatedly. Oh and queues for everything were horrendously long, with people jumping queues all over. As someone who lives there and uses NAIA every week i can reliably tell you Dan that jt’s reputation is well deserved. You clearly were there on one of its better days! It’s a filthy dirty broken chaotic place that’s badly managed. The flight departures are more often than not late. The traffic in and around the airport is horrendous. The chaos of getting a taxi/Grab from arrivals is a sight that would make any seasoned traveller weep and question their life choices. the queues just to get inside the terminals are real. The facilities are “cobbled” together and held together with duct tape literally! The aircon, escalators and bathrooms often are broken. Inter terminal transfers are a nightmare. Queues at immigration on departure and arrival make most African countries look efficient. You have staff standing around doing not a lot of nothing instead of directing Filipinos towards the e-gates. The range of shops and F&B isn’t great (terminal 3 is the better). Terminal 1 is a horror show and a time capsule on how historic airports once were but ironically being operated in realtime today. Mercifully, the only comfort I have is the Cathay membership that allows me to avoid check in queues and hide away in the lounge from the depressing reality of NAIA! It’s a national embarrassment and not the “banner advertisement” of a nation with such growth aspirations and a desire to be a forward looking modern country.

The worst airport IMO is London Heathrow. 3 hours waiting time for immigration clearance for passengers coming in from Asian countries, understaffed, the goddamn officers at the counters take their own sweet time to pass everyone and guess what? I had a 9:20 am flight to Abu Dhabi and just check-in alone took me 3 hours despite being at the airport by 6 since I’ve been told that it’s an extremely unreliable airport. Security takes another 1 hour and they start the final boarding call for passengers when the goddamn security officer isn’t even letting us finish our clearance. I was lucky to board it 2 minutes before the gates closed. Never ever returning to London if I’m going to arrive at Heathrow. Even an airport in a village would be so much better than this one. By far, THE WORST AIRPORT

The terminal 1 is the worst. It has scammers and those scammers are the workers or airport employees.

Friendly? Their security either plants contraband or steal valuables. Their immigration officers are bullies. Friendly my foot.

The worst airport I have ever had a layover and flown from was the old Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya - I remember going through the old terminal a few months before a 'fire destroyed the older parts' just after they had finished building a newer portion with much more modern infrastructure. Coincidence?

I honestly think as a Filipino the Manila airport is my favorite airport in the Philippines! And I think the lines are so long because there are a lot of people who visit and every time I travel I go to that airport and yes whenever I visit there I always stand beside the aircon.

I was at the old terminal with no a/c in 2014. The staff was no help when I needed to find a bathroom quickly. Toilet had no seat and no toiler paper. Had to improvise. Worse than Port au Prince Haiti and Moscow and I've been to both. Never again.
