I personally think the million dollars while kind of feelsbad, serves a distinct corporate interest. These tournaments are basically glorified ads, so the idea is to maximize branding (the grand prize) for the lowest amount. Capcom doesn't really benefit from making a better pot, since people will want to compete for the 1 mil anyway, and while they'll complain, they'll still compete. When you think of these corporations as doing "whatever they can get away with" i think you'll be unsurprised with what conclusion they'll end up with.

Look we all know the Saudi Arabia tourney is a sport washing but I hope people know with how dire the esports industry there’s a legit chance the Saudi government might become the only game in town. It happened to pga tour in real sports. It already happened to overwatch. So I respect anyone that wants to take a stand against it but it might eventually mean the end of your career in tier 1 esports (fgc is more grassroots) as crazy as a nightmare scenario that sounds

Oh that started years ago, right around the ps4/xone era. THe hardware industry has been chasing 4k for a long time (keeping homes and apartment warm with these space heaters we call consoles and gaming pcs) and the software industry has become too copy cat for their to be any true innovation in gaming. Besides how much can you really do on a screen?

No, but the companies we used to love growing up turned into corporations that got rid of the people or they left the company and they were replaced with people that only care about data and lines, profits instead of making creative games. Clearly the indie scene is fine and it’s easier than ever to make games. I can’t wait to see what Nintendo releases with the switch 2

This is too accurate about the assassin's creed take. And this is sadly true for any game now! If the character is not a white male, people get absolutely pressed about it. They act like it is the worst thing in the world.

When Fortnite did this it made international news. Hopefully this converts into more sponsors so future Cups can have a more fair distribution.

No, the industry has plenty of ideas but will they act on them? Chasing the safe option is definitely the wave regarding the amount of money and effort put into these games. There are plenty of options if you want a more unique experience.

I was never going to get the game as I have not played AC since brotherhood but if the black samurai is where people draw the line about historical accuracy, what about the magical apple that shoots lightning bolts that you steel from a secret society that runs the church in Italy that you then proceed to zap everyone with? Hope these people were crying about muh history then too. Just don't buy the game if you don't like the story.

As a white video gamer, I must say, i do not understand the discourse of Assassin's Creed. I guarantee anyone mad at this has never played AC if they are mad it's not historic accuracy. Remember in Creed 3 when Connor just straight up murders Washington in the dlc?

I'd have played Assassins Creed Shadows had it come out 10 years ago. I've fallen off of the series for too long though.

The people that complain about Assassins Creed are the same people that complained about Final Fantasy XVI. You’re either too diverse or not diverse enough. Historically accurate or not accurate at all. They nitpick at anything that doesn’t fit their vision of what the game should be. People are being mad about something to be mad about something. I just ignore them. It’s mentally better for you anyways.

I hate to throw a wrench in people fairly distributing the prize pool on their own (which I totally support, this being so top-heavy is crazy), but gifting a friend $300,000 is extremely difficult. Taxes are weird and sending that money without a "reason" sends up crime flags in the government/IRS. It really sucks that CAPCOM is essentially forcing the hand of the players this way. Also holy shit 12:40 going in! As a white man, I apologize for the rest of my stupidly entitled demographic.

As a game developer, I can assure that the industry is NOT running out of ideas. We have, however, entered a self destructive loop that is only made stronger by internet rage culture. There are lots of indie games with fresh new ideas and interesting ways of telling stories and make art, most of them do not get very far because of money issues and lack of interest. The avarage player is mostly interested in AAA games and they are almost always stuck between a rock and a hard place: Players demand that their games are fresh, but also need to be the same, but also needs to look good, but also can't look like other games. Between stakeholders and the impossible standards that players have, we end up making the games we can, not what we want. It has become less about the art and more about meeting demands and earning money. And meeting demands has become impossible because every game that comes out meets baseless criticism from the getgo (example: Assassins Creed Shadow and Dragon Age being "woke" ((It always was))). KZreadrs and reactors are always searching for something to criticize, as their income depends on them having "strong opinions", so they are desensitized to consuming art. They play games looking for flaws and openings to take a jab at the developers, and pander to parrots that reproduce whatever they say endlessly. So it is a hard place to be in...
