Is the Ferrari 348TS a Hidden Gem? Pro Racer Sean Hudspeth drives it in Singapore to find out!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Hi everyone I’m Sean Hudspeth from Singapore, a professional racing driver and official Ferrari driving instructor. I’m a 2 time National GT champion in Italy (2019 & 2020).
In this video, I will be driving and sharing my thoughts on the Ferrari 348TS, a car that is arguably overlooked and undervalued. Join me to find out why the 348TS is frowned upon by Ferrari purists and why it's a car that you will grow to love. Driving it on the streets of Singapore was a lot of fun!

Sean Hudspeth is a professional racing driver from Singapore who has been competing as a motorsport athlete for over 12 years! Inspired to pursue a career in motorsports since he was a child, Sean Hudspeth began his career Go-Karting at a very young age. He took part in World and Asian Karting championships between 2011 and 2012 with multiple pole positions and wins before moving on to Formula Car Racing under a scholarship programme with Formula BMW Asia.
Sean Hudspeth did his first Formula Car Race in 2012 before moving to prototype endurance racing in Europe where he claimed several podium finishes in 2015. He then made the switch to GT Racing with an Italian Porsche Carrera Cup Team for a one-off race in Imola, Italy which he won. The Singaporean did his first race with Ferrari in the Brno Round of the 2018 European Challenge where he qualified and finished 2nd. This incredible result led to a seat in a Ferrari 488 GT3 EVO with the official Ferrari GT team, AF Corse, to compete in the 2019 Italian GT Sprint Championship. Sean Hudspeth and his teammate Antonio Fuoco managed to win the class champion in dominant fashion. In 2020, Sean won the Italian GT Endurance Championship with Ferrari Team EasyRace, as well as the historic 6 Hours of Rome at the end of that year.
Sean Hudspeth is a certified Ferrari instructor and works with the brand at their official events, launches, and roadshows all over the world. He has worked with hundreds of Ferrari clients and drivers, at presentations and as a driver coach on the road and on the track.
Sean also specialises in bespoke driving experiences in road cars and racing cars as well as private coaching events.

I watched all the videos on youtube about this car, then I found a seller, then I went for a ride in it, and then I bought it. It's de-catted with a Tubi exhaust, in great condition and well maintained, and after a long time of driving a pretty big stack of exotic cars, it's the best thing I've ever EVER driven. It's the definitive analogue driving experience - incredible noise, no assistance, tactile, sharp, and far better put together than I ever was led to believe. This really was the pinnacle, I just wish I'd realised sooner. These reviews don't do it justice - it needs pressing on, and it rewards many times over anything ferrari have made since (and I love those cars).

Nice review, Sean. I think the 348 is often a little misunderstood. In many ways as you implied it was the last car of an era at Ferrari before the cars became much more technical and to an extent more accessible and easier to drive. There's no doubt they needed to but the old cars are a lot of fun and very engaging. I've had my 348 TS for about 11 years now. Regarding your issues with lack of space when the roof is off, there were a few folding soft tops made back in the day in Italy and a slightly different type made aftermarket in America for FNA. They fold up and fit on the parcel shelf behind the seats so you can have the seat all the way back while the roof is off. Good buy for anyone over about 6 foot.

Looking at the 348. Any information on engine mods for more power. The only two Ferraris I’ve driven, were the 328 and the 360. I loved the power of the 360. A naturally aspirated 400 horsepower v8 is the sweet spot for me. Forgot to mention the 488 at a track day experience that my wife gave me for my birthday. I hate to say it but despite unreal power, braking and handling I’m not a fan. It felt like a high speed appliance, not special. Humble opinion.

As a fan of the 348, the numbers you showed aren't 100% precise. Dry weight was of 1393 kg, it made 0-60 in 5.6 (some got 5.4), and its top speed was declared at 275 kmh, although at nardo in a test they got 285 from a tb. Some bonus facts, at fiorano it lapped in 1:39, which is 1 second faster than the testarossa and 5 than the 328 gtb, and the challenge version of the car lapped in 1:33, which is 3 seconds faster than the 288 gto I liked your video, although the car was far from stock aesthetically, and unfortunately you didn't drive it in some windings roads, to have an idea of how it behaves, especially because you're a racing driver. Still, nice video, hope to see some other vintage cars as well

This is the best looking Ferrari ever made IMO. This is an aesthetic design that could have lasted decades with just a tweak hear and there over the years. A lot of the more modern offerings from Ferrari (and other companies) seem like they try far to hard to visually "out exotic" the other guys. Everything doesn't need to look like a futuristic space fighter. The Ferrari 348 and some others (like the Lamborghini Silhouette) are VERY attractive vehicles even by today's standards.

I owned a yellow 92 348 TB for 16 years. I eventually traded for an 08 Rosso Corsa F430 spider F1 about 3 years ago. I’m extremely pleased with the 430. It’s much more enjoyable to drive than the 348, however the 348 had that classic Ferrari wail which I do miss. I agree with Sean about the power steering. I often thought to myself while manoeuvring in a parking lot that, man, very few women would be able to handle this car!

hey man, cool review. as a 348 owner i dont really need to watch a review but its interesting to see different opinions from different people on it. by the way, the seats dont look original, nor is the exhaust and also the middle console has been taped (i guess because of the sticky soft touch issue). the lower frame has been painted in red too and as far as i remember the ferrari horse on the back of the car should be black. the rims are not original too. this 348 has been modified a lot but i must admit, it looks pretty decent tho. :)

This is an early car, so indeed the bottom parts would’ve been black as standard and have been painted. I’ve got a ‘93 car (tb) and mine were painted from factory, just like the GTB/GTS soon after that. The seats are not original to this car, but might be the Challenge seats, or alike? In that sense, they are fitting. Personally, I think these wheels look nice but are a bit too modern looking for a 348.

The idea behind a 'dog-leg' gearshift is that 2nd and 3rd are vertically opposed, making them faster shifts, since high speed driving doesn't often require reverse or 1st. I think the 348 was one of the last dog-leg Ferraris. It was incorporated into 60s sports cars as a desirable feature. Probably by the 80s people were damaging their cars by shifting incorrectly, so manufacturers like Porsche and Ferrari switched to the more conventional H pattern. Or perhaps advances in gearbox technology made it easier or cheaper.

This car has a non-standard double intake vent front bumper. It looks gorgeous, but this was never offered by the factory. I wonder whether this is custom made as a one-off solution, or he found some aftermarket manufacturer selling bumpers with the double intake.

I’ve seen it done more often, it’s not a difficult job in terms of modding, just make the hole, sculpture it, and repaint. Though to me, it looks wrong, I like how there’s nothing fake about the 348, it has one hole because only one hole is needed.

  • @aplanedividedthesky

@@kasimirdenhertog3516 I am pretty sure that if I attempt to do it myself, it will indeed look fake and tacky. And that would be the very last thing I'd want in my car :p so I still believe there's a certain challenge in managing to mod the bumper in a way that the second hole is completely symmetrical. Otherwise, agreed, it'll be one hell of a botch job.

  • @kasimirdenhertog3516

@@aplanedividedthesky wouldn't attempt it myself either 🙈 But a body shop with enough experience could do it. I mean, you can modify the original bumper and don't need to have one specifically molded or anything. I've had an Alfa that had the rear bumper butchered by a previous owner to fit a tow bar. Of course, this is blasphemy, so I removed the tow bar, but then was left with the ugly rear bumper. I found a body shop close by who carefully filled the voids and recreated the curves and creases, then resprayed it, looked as good as new!
