Фильм және анимация

In this episode we review the Iron Enterprise-D by FANHOME. This light-up diecast model is 26 inches long, and comes with magazines that include detailed information about Star Trek: The Next Generation. This is a subscription service in which you get volumes of the magazine and parts for the model. You also receive a number of Star Trek related gifts. But is it worth it? Should you buy it? Join us as we talk about FANHOME, the Enterprise D, and what comes in the box. We will be reviewing these issues as they are received and building the model. Feel free and build along or enjoy by proxy. A special thank you to FANHOME for providing the package to review. Check out their site at bit.ly/3IY8sgk. The vent on the bridge section that has the black insert isn't supposed to have an LED. It won't light up with that black insert. It was something we all were confused about the first time this kit came out because there's a space for an LED to go in there but it can't light up. Plus those vents aren't supposed to light up at all so no one was sure why they even had LEDs for those. It's inaccurate.

    I never actually saw this kit but I've heard a lot of people talk about it. It's much higher quality, larger, and more detailed than I was imagining (did not think the body was going to be metal), but the total cost across all the stages is like $2,000 which is still pretty steep for something you "get to" put together yourself.

  • @YourGeekFix

    @YourGeekFix

    Also? The cost is NOT the point....the process of building IS the point. It's the satisfaction of making something. This is a VERY complex model, and in a factory would require HUGE man-hours, so a finished product would be WAY more than $2000. Heck, at Disney you can buy a full-sized R2-D2 "working" replica, for only $25,000.

    I started this model with Eagle moss and got to Kit #76 before they went under last year. This model is goofy and over engineered. Some pieces are plastic. Some are metal. Seems arbitrary which ones are and aren't. Not everything fits well. The light bleed is horrendous. You've got to spend a lot of extra time carefully masking the joints off. The wiring is a pain in the rear. So many wires. Every section has 2 to 3 LED's. By the time the saucer section is complete, we're talking 100's of wires. No external power. The nacelles, star drive and saucer section have their own batteries. I have no idea how this thing would have been able to stand if completed. I would say I was about 2/3rds of the way complete with this model. It sat in a box for almost a year. I sold online for a fraction of what I spent on it. Was 1200 dollars into it. Despite all the problems, this was totally fun to build. I was angry at Eaglemoss for not keeping their act together. I regret for not having completed it and selling it. My advice. If you're going to do it, just get all the kits at once. Make sure you have all the parts and then build at your own pace. Not worth waiting around. Fanhome probably won't state in business for long.

    A time a commenter brings up cost the creator ignores it or tries to defend/deflect. In the very first FLASH frame of the video you can see that he got the nearly $2k model for free. This makes it hard to be objective about cost or even quality. I love the model, I don’t love the 34 packages and the attempt to make it seem less costly than it is. I also don’t like Trojan commercials which is what paid promotion or free for review videos are. Nothing personal.

    Thanks for commenting. If you have seen my other videos you would know I take a significant loss making fanhome videos. I spend hours building and editing I could spend on videos that pay. We figured out I lose a little over $50 a video. I am a chump for not making something minimal or basic. On top of that, I don't get to experience it the same. I have a model I am paying for and am battling sharing the experience because it also adds an expectation from viewers. I'm transparent about receiving the model. If I was paying for it others say I would be justifying my purchase. The price is so variable, no two people may pay the same. Yesterday in the US this was offered for 30% off. Coupon codes, date purchased, your location, all SIGNIFICANTLY affect this. I have found there is not even a safe range to give. Call your local fanhome, ask them for details and watch for price changes. I have full fanhome builds from beginning to end. They only expect the first video. For those that do and don't buy I show the process and answer the question if it was worth it. Either way, thanks for watching and commenting.

    It's Diagustini model. It was distributed by Eaglemoss as well as Fanhome. These models have been around for years. Fanhome offered to let people from Eaglemoss finish their build through them.

    I have to say if you want this it's your money but as a model builder that's been building Star Trek kits for over 30 years, this kit is shaped wrong in so many areas. I don't care how big it is, I'd never spend that kind of money on a model that's not accurate. The general shape of the parts is just a crud/bad copy of what the studio model looks like.

    @@YourGeekFix I didn't know that, but they still got a lot of the shape wrong. The bridge/shuttle bay is the perfect example, on the real model it's a nice, rounded curve at the edges but on this kit, it goes straight up on an angle before turning and becoming flat. The base of the neck is why to squared off; it's missing the gentle curve the real model has. I'm wondering if they had to make compromises due to the nature of the molding process for the parts. Either way I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the build, but this kit just isn't for me personally.
