I think cats 🐈 😻 🐈‍⬛️ are beautiful!

5-month-old Archie (a male ginger tabby) didn't get the memo about aluminum foil. We placed foil carefully around the floor where the tree sits. Archie thought this was great stuff! Within an hour or so he had the foil pushed into several loose balls; one of which he carried in his mouth and presented to us. A previous cat loved Christmas tree lights. We learned that the C-7 size LED lights that are shaped like the old-fashioned tree lights were too big for him to get his mouth around and he stopped chewing on the lights. For some reason, he never bothered the power cords but was just interested in the lights themselves. Archie mostly ignores the lights and cords but loves the ornaments. We will try your suggestions about securing them next year.

My suggestion: use ornaments that hang from ribbons, not from wires, and never, EVER buy (or use) one of those packs of wire hangers that are sold to replace lost hangers! Inevitably, at least one of those wire hangers will end up on the floor where it's a choking hazard (or a poking hazard)! Ribbons are more likely to stay attached to an ornament, so even if your cat plays with it, they are less likely to swallow it.

Thanks for pointing that out, @@Alexis47620 I meant to imply that a ribbon can be tied on to the ornament so that a cat can't (or must go to some serious effort to) swallow it without swallowing the much larger ornament, so it's less likely to make it all the way down their throat; they can either extract it on their own by pushing away the ornament, or the human can. As a practical reality, most cat owners are going to make some compromises on household risks, including Christmas decorations, based on their cats' individual behaviors and temptations, so it's good to consider what kinds of ornaments are acceptable risks, and to be aware of options.

When we adopted out felines in 2020, by Christmas, I heard too many horror stories about Christmas trees' and my little one's love to chew wires, life cell phone chargers. So I found a felt tree one that has felt ornament's that you can change, it also has battery lights with it but I changed them out for battery one's with a remote, which work perfectly. It hangs on my wall out of reach of our cats that still have all their 9 lives (they did not give up any bother with my tree). We are all happier with this tree, that I did get it online through Wal-Mart, less than $20.00, makes mamma happy.

1.) Heavy tree base 2.) If necessary/possible, tie top to wall. 3) NO Glass, fragile or small ornaments 4) keep water access securely covered and hidden 5) no tinsel 6) use a GFI receptacle for the electric circuit you attach the tree lights and cords to 7) lights off if you aren't around.

I’ve had many cats over the years, and many Christmas trees, and every cat reacts differently. I learned right away to give away all my glass ornaments and to coat the wires at the base of the tree with bitter apple since two of my cats loved knocking the ornaments off the tree and chewing on wires. I regret not having a real tree anymore, as I’ve noticed the sheer joy that my cats displayed in actually getting to interact with a REAL tree. They know the smells and textures. Sadly, they also like to chew on pine needles, so I converted to artificial trees after a few years. I don’t put up a tree at all anymore because I just don’t have the space, but I sincerely miss the Christmas mornings of waking up wondering where the kitten went to only to find her happily perched in the Christmas tree. There are some memories you never want to lose. ❤️🐈🎄

I've had cats all my life and none of them have ever shown any interest in the Christmas tree. Guess I'm just lucky!

I remember being a kid and having our first cat knock the 7 foot tree over at 2 am xD i promptly turned around and went back to bed to let the adults handle it haha

I introduce the tree slowly. The first day it stays undecorated and then I slowly add lights, and ornaments over the next 3-4 days. This way it’s not all of a sudden a very interesting thing added to the living room, and it becomes boring by the time the ornaments are added. I also let my cat check it out on her own terms and I only interfere if she is being too aggressive. Worked so far 4 years in a row 😁

We tried everything you suggested already but our one cat still wants to play with the tree. We can make the tree cat safe but we can't get any sleep with all the noise the cat makes trying to destroy it lol. This year we tried a small tree on an end table instead but the cat says oh no you can't full me I know that's my new tree toy 😅. I think the only option is to just not have a tree.

I use my curio cabinet. Take out all the shelves and I put a tall, skinny Christmas tree inside my curio cabinet. Works great and safe for my little loves. 💙🐾🎄❤️ Merry Christmas!! 🎄

Two way sticky tape around the tree worked for my cat

Definitely have to anchor ours to the wall. We don’t leave it lit when we are not supervising.. We try to discourage him from getting inside when it’s on due to my fear of electrocution … We buy cheap Walmart ornaments with ribbon

Thanks for the tips. Besides the tree, though, there are other Christmas plants that cats might need to be protected from - mistletoe, poinsettias, holly, etc. For me, these have been more a problem than the tree. Merry Christmas, Mallory!

When my cats were younger I would use citronella spray on the artificial branches to deter chewing and climbing. It worked although I had to spray every other day.

Our new 7 mo old kittens started chewing on the artificial needles. So, we used an electric train that runs around the tree! That helped! Next year we will try adding the bitter apple etc. to help keep them from chewing the tree!

So THAT'S why I've seen slices of orange on Christmas trees. I thought it was some kind of Tik Tok Thing.

I put a hook into one of the ceiling joist. Then I tied a cord from the ceiling to the top of the tree. That made it impossible for it to fall over even when my Tasha took to sleeping in the branches.

Hi😊 I used your calculator for finding out how much my kitten should eat a day from Nulo wet cat food but I don’t quite understand it. For example it says that my cat should eat 1.1 cups/cans but what does that mean. How much is 1.1 cups/cans from the nulo 12.5 oz can. Sorry if it seems weird that I don’t understand it but English is not my first language at I just really need help. So I thought it meant that I have to feed my cat about 1 cup from the wet food per day. Am I right?

Kinda. Cats _can_ eat Cheez Whiz, and it's often recommended for helping cats to take pills (just using a tiny amount). However, it's far from a good source of nutrition, and giving it to your cat regularly could be bad for them.

Christmas trees are illegal in most parts of the world for environmental hasards and it aggravates our pets but where is the video about the wifi cat feeder I can't find it anywhere and it is probably outdated and I don't want to electrocuted my cat with an outdated device.
