After one year and two months (just outside of warranty), my McLaren wheel failed. One of the magnets seated itself into the housing and will not release, so the shifter is dead. I reached out to Fanatic over a week ago with a couple of emails to support, and no response :). Really liked this wheel, but I fear I will have to get a replacement. **** (UPDATE). I did finally get a response from Fanatec (took 16 days) - they asked me to send them a video of the problem, then promptly gave me a RMA to return it to them for repair or replacement. Will see how long that takes, but pleased they finally responded.

Yeah fanatec client support is extremely slow, but as long as you get your replacement, if i were you, i'd be happy enough.

I can't afford any of these wheels, Just watching because of the pure quality of your videos

@@MultiSphinix crying with Logitech g29. But if being honest, it’s my first wheel and I have a decent cockpit and I actually really enjoy it, a lot. Yes, it’s low end but because I’ve only used controller, it’s way way way better. Although, I do want and will upgrade to thrustmaster and Fanatec. I’ll probably go thrustmaster at end of year. Servo wheel base load cell pedal and wheel and if Fanatec have stock next year, I’ll go with them. But I’m not simply moving on, I just want a collection of wheels and sim gear in general. Main reason for upgrade would be smoother wheel motion and of course the gear is much higher quality and looks a lot nicer and more immersive. When I’m in my g29 I feel great. I only feel less happy when I watch these types of videos 😭

If I ever get a csl dd this is probably the wheel im gonna combo with it, there's lots of buttons and dials so it's super adaptable to any kind of sim I'd want to play

i would get the moza R9 instead. you can buy a quickrelease with a 6 x 70mm patern and use any wheel

if you care about money/value, I really wouldn't recommend fanatec now. there are many alternatives now, with stronger bases, better wheel and easier/cheaper shipping. The main problem is just the base costs $600 now, instead of the original advertised $350.

This wheel is a must for me as i am disabled. Thank you! Gonna def be tough for me to adapt to but still.

I bought this wheel and it’s a good wheel but I use the DD pro wheel when playing GT7. It’s just a easier wheel to use and feels more comfortable. I also bought the metal quick release which I definitely recommend. The plastic creaking was awful

Okay 1 year later how is your GT3 still ? is it working okay ?

I have a DD1 and use it on PC. I have the Formula v2, the Podium Porsche and this with the QR1. This McLaren is a great wheel for GT3. I have replaced the shifter with improved aftermarket’s from SimMakerz and drive with gloves. Brilliant wheel.

I've had mine for a year. I would absolutely recommend it! Very good wheel for a resonable price which comes with many buttons. 9/10

I just ordered it 10 mins. Ago along with the button and sticker set. With this and Clubsport RS wheel and my CSL DD 5nm i am pretty much covered for any type of driving 😎

It’s amazing…….. however the paddles are terrible, but I swapped them out for the SimMakerZ upgrade kit. I use this wheel all the time.

I was a bit in doubt when starting with Fanatec ecosysteem, between this and the V2.5 formula wheel, but i am happy with the V2.5 formula wheel, enough buttons and included the metal QR and magnetic shifters. I use it together with the DD Pro

Just so everyone knows, this wheel doesn’t allow to map PS4/5 L2/R2 buttons. You need your controller still if you need those buttons.

If I focus only on Fanatec wheels... Formula is too small for my hands. McLaren V2 300mm is the minimum for me. One hand shifting is very very useful to me, especially in (longer) online races. Magnetic shifters are so much better and you can buy them for this wheel from some modding company. If only I could achieve one hand shifting with Ascher or CubeControls wheels. When you're 40, have a family, not much free time, you need one hand for various things that might happen so you wouldn't ruin your race.

Always nice to see a lubricated shaft, essential IMO.

The csl bmw and csl elite wrc are basically the same wheel (bmw has rubber grip and is for PS, wrc has alcantara grip and is for Xbox/PS), both are a revision of the old csl p1 wheel with the new QR. A basic wheel that's good quality and does the job.

I bought this at the start of the year and absolutely worth it’s weight in gold

i have the wheel and its really good for the price the quality is great. One thing is kind of annoying its really big but it is really good for the price

I have added that wheel to my Setup a long time ago. I am really pleased with it. I also have the entry level F1 style wheel and compared to the GT3 wheel it does not feel the same way when driving GT3 Cars. The GT3 wheel just fits that specific job sooo well. It just gives a more realistic feeling when turning in. That said I find it to be horrible for any other car that is not a GT Racing Car. When considering th price i would say it is a must have for every Fanatec user that is driving GT3 Cars

I'm not a big fan of the rocker paddles nor the plastic dual clutch paddles. I suppose if money is tight and you want dual clutch, it's probably the only option in that price range for a GT/open wheel type rim. But, if you can afford it, I'd go with a Formula V2.5. I have one right now and it is the only rim I use as of late. The APM's are also a nice addition, again, if you can afford it. Just seems like the Mclaren rim has too much plastic.

So far it's been working quite well for me on the CSL DD. Just the grips are a bit too thin for my liking and I don't even have big hands. But I got used to those pretty quickly

I want this wheel so bad 😩😩😩😭😭😭. I finally forked out the money for a csl dd, 8 nm boost kit, gt lite cockpit, and load cell pedal. I ended up getting the wrc wheel because it was cheap and I knew I could use it for more cars and I literally had no money left afterwards lol... this thing looks so fucking amazing though and I really wish I could have afforded it as well lol.

I’ve got this with a csl dd 8nm it’s is really good but unfortunately not all the buttons are programmable with the Xbox series x. That’s not the wheels fault but this is very annoying.

is it ok to use this for drifting and rallying? if its not too bad i'll just go for this one since i'll mostly be playing f1 iracing and acc

Its not only any good its the best imo with the best bang for buck then anything out there

The quality on the eSports V2 will be better. However, this McLaren GT3 wheel will provide more functionality in terms of overall dials, buttons, encoders, etc. compared to the F1 esports. The biggest upside of the F1 Esports wheel however (in my opinion), are it's vibrating handles, something which gives a very cool immersive factor. Good wheel for $200, feels good looks good but to me it was just a bit too plastic. After some use it got a little creaky and cheap feeling. Ended up going with a Turn Racing R305 and a Fanatic Unversal Hub V2. More $$ but way way nicer for the longer haul. Sold the McLaren straight away.

Good wheel but V2.5 with Advanced Paddle is a lot better. Smaller rim is not problem.

I have used this wheel a lot and I completely understand its a budget wheel but man i hate this rim the shifters feel incredibly muted and the plastic starts to creak after a while and just overall it feels so bulky, the buttons also do not feel great but again i understand this is a budget wheel

Does the csl dd for PlayStation work with this wheel I’ve been trying to find out for ages?

Too late, been over an hour since the video was posted, so you deserve no answer. Nah but the wheel is basically the width of as most other fanatec wheels. It's not small. Only that you'll have to press the shifter with one or two fingers, but thats because it's got 4 paddles

Is there a way to get leather grips?

Good rim but doesn't work properly with f1 games doesn't have button 7 and 8 So you won't be able to navigate some menus without using keyboard

Why can't Thrustmaster do a wheel like this? 30 cm wide, GT style, clutch paddle on the back, cheap.

Do you mean the TX leather edition wheel? If so, that one does support swappable wheels which means it will work with the SF1000 rim.

Keyboards with over 100 quality keys can be had for less than this, there’s no reason they couldn’t have a couple quality buttons at this price. The cost difference is pennies and there’s no justification for it or you not calling them out for it

I have the McLaren GT3 V1 and I absolutely love it. Here's some reasons 1. It's cheap, when I bought it a few years ago, it was under $200 with the metal QR1. Fanatecs cheapest wheel at the time. 2. It's a full scale replica of the actual McLaren GT3 racecar! In VR it's insanely trippy 3. Rubber grips are great! They are more durable than alcantara and they feel really good with gloves on 4. Paddle shifters feel really good. I used to work at a performance shop and have driven a few performance street cars (GTR, 458, 650s) and these paddles feel very similar. Way better than the Fanatec magnetic paddles imo.

the new moza cs looks a lot better. its only 50 usd more and has rev lights and a metal qr.

@@OCRacing the rim costs more, but base is cheaper and has more torque. but there are new cheaper moza rims coming out, can also get cheaper if import from china (a small hassle tho, ofc not everyone wants to do that)

Short version : YES ...... if only fanatec has a Playstation Equivalent of this wheelrim for the same price point (pain in the ass really) XD

Nothing Fanatec is any good. Fanatec sent it to him so of course it has to be the best then and nothing wrong with it.

These wheels are rubbish. If you have owned one for a few months of use look closely behind the wheel where the shifter pivot point is for cracking. Mine has been replaced by Fanatec under warranty due to a design fault which they have admitted to in writing and the replacement has cracked the same way. If you are thinking of Fanatec DONT. Look elsewhere. It’s not just poor quality but very bad after sales service and warranty.
