Is The Canon PRO-1000 really THAT expensive to PRINT with?

Good to hear. I’ve been wanting the 1000 but started thinking the 300 may be a cheaper option because of all the stories about the cost of ink.

I have my PRO-1000 set to print a half page purge job automatically with Qimage Ultimate once every 23 hours and hardly ever get a clean cycle. No matter how many days I wait it pulls the paper right in and prints after a short agitation stage.

I have owned the Canon pro 1000 for five years now. To mitigate ink waste you need to print daily, at least one print a day, minimum 2-3 days in between prints. But daily printing is recommended.

@@virtuoso-arts Then you will be wasting ink. The purpose of buying ink is to print. If you leave the printer sitting around, when you start it up to print it will do a deep cleaning of the lines, it uses ink to do this, and that ink ends up inside the maintenance cartridge. Even when printing regularly you still end up with ink in the maintenance cartridge, but to a lesser extend. Also never completely shut down the printer, set it up so it is always on standby mode.

@@virtuoso-arts The process in how printers operate will not change. If you don't have enough work to print, be it for yourself or to sell, buying a printer is not a good idea. At the end of the day, it's about selling ink "not the printer itself" for these companies, as it should be, it's how they stay in business. They will just try to sell you some new "look the blacks are slightly better, and the new ink is more scratch resistant nonsense". Printers have reached their apex, it's the reason you haven't seen new models for years. The same thing happened to the PC and smartphone industry. Now they are trying to sell you this AI crap, before that it was gimmicks that no one asked for or wanted. Same now with the AI, which has noting to do with making things easier for you. It's more about dumbing people down even more so they become completely useless and need big brother to show them the way. Tell them what is true and what is not. Which unfortunately is already the case for the majority of the population. It's the reason they eat up whatever big corporate/government feeds them.

@jfphotography69 I don't know about that broskie, I purchased the 4090 GPU and this beast is pushing over 200 FPS in max settings on my games with the AI frame manipulation technology, and YES I see AND feel the difference. But I get what you are saying.

Hi! Thanks for the interesting video. It is very informative in regards to cost-per-ml, however maybe you can help me understand another side of this question. I was thinking of buying this printer but I heard that for non-intensive use (hobby), the canon Pro-1000 would waste up to 50% of the ink with periodical cleaning cycles. Do you leave the printer inactive for a few days (maybe even weeks) frequently? do you think printing once a week significantly avoid ink waste? Some people say running a nozzle check once per week avoids the big cleaning cycles. Thanks in advance for your reply

Ive read and heard about the ink waste. I try to to a pattern test print once every 3 days to avoid the deep clean cycle, but to be honest I forget to do it pretty often lol. Ive had the printer since last summer. Ive made a BUNCH of prints, everything from 4x6 proofs, a bunch of 8x10 and 11x14, and several 16x20. The only cartridges to run out so far are the chroma optimizer, blue, and just yesterday light gray. So as much as Ive done im still on 9 of the "starter cartridges" that came with the printer. I did replace the waste tank once as well.

@@JKAdams Indeed I have to consider these factors, I've also read that in addition to the periodical nozzle checks, leaving the printer on helps too as the process of turning on consumes 4ml and turning it off spends another 4ml. The MC20 cartridge is supposed to be around 220ml so that gives us an idea of how much ink is going there too. thanks for taking the time to reply

Yep full standard cartridges. When you first install them and setup the printer it takes a good bit of ink to fill the internals. I made a bunch of prints before I ever needed to replace a cartridge.

I'm planning to buy the pro 300 but I want the pro 1000 so here's my questions 1. In 1 year how many times did you have to replace the waste ink tank? 2. how often did you need to replace all ink cartridge in 1 year? I'm using this printer for personal use and not the selling prints. in 1 year maybe I'll print 120 pictures from 17"x39" and 8x10 then turn it off for a couple of months if that is ok?

Ive replaced mine twice in the last year. It took me a little under a year to go thru the entire ink set that came with the printer. You will end up wasting a lot of ink if you dont print regularly, and letting it sit too long runs the risk of ruining the print head.

Depending on what software you are printing from? ie photoshop/ lightroom etc make sure airprint is disabled, Airprint causes double profiling and messes up the colours during printing.

My concern is how behaves the ink in cartriges of that size, when you need a few years to use all this ink up? I am not concerned about the cleaning, my big concern are settling pigments. No matter how well dispersed, pigments undisturbed over long timespans, obey the law of gravity!
