Have been eagerly awaiting this review since the max came out man! Thank you! Definitely interested in the max but waiting for a price drop and for them to be able to stereo pair. I feel like 2x bose max in stereo might be the best mid sized set up you could get. My 2 hyperbooms in stereo still reign supreme, but they are very difficult to travel with

I'm listening to the Max right now for first time after receiving it yesterday. The black was on sale at a discount, but I love the blue so I had to pay full price for it. My rule is to never pay full price, but on very rare occasions rules have to be broken. It sounds excellent as it should being Bose. It is basically the big brother of the Flex. Bose has created a masterpiece of excellent sound and power. The extended battery life was a necessity for long listening sessions. Bose claims twenty hours of of battery life, but manufacturers claims are at low volume. I am going to test the twenty hour claim at normal volume. Well done Bose because you have knocked it out of the park with the Max.

Hey Dan, love the video always very clear and easy to follow. I am experiencing an issue when playing really bass heavy music with the Bose Soundlink Max, there is quite a bit of distortion more I than would expect, is this normal behaviour? Example of a song would be bad guy from Billie Eilish. Thank you for your help.

@@DannyPops thank you for your testing, I really do appreciate it. I was using Apple Music so might be that I guess and it only happens and high volume levels. If you have any suggestions, that would be appreciated. Many thanks again Lewis

Nice review with lots of variation. I had the Bose Soundlink Max for a couple of weeks and compared it to the HK Onyx 6, Tribit Stormbox Blast and the new Soundcore Boom 2 Plus. All of them are great speakers, but all cheaper than the Max as well. Needless to say the Bose went back as it couldn’t outperform the Onyx 6 in bass extension. The Bose distorts the bass at higher volume. I also find it odd that Bose gives no power figures. Any guesstimates? How do you feel it compares to the Tribit? I actually bought the Tribit based on your review and others recommendations. Anyway, keep up the good work!

🤔 I’ll have to give that song a listen. I have been testing on a variety of music from pop, jazz, r&b, lofi, classical and hip hop. I have noticed a trend in Bluetooth speaker that the genre of music really can make or break its performance. I thought the Tribit was hands down unbeatable, but listening to the Boom 2 Plus today for extended periods really is solidifying it as a contender listening to the same tracks.

Hi. Love your videos. I need some more info on the Bose Soundlink Max. How well does it handle high volume levels? Is there any distortion or loss of quality at both low and high volumes? I already own two Soundlink Flex speakers, but I'm not quite happy with them as they have directional sound; you either need the speakers facing up to get a spread feel of sound or be sitting in front of them to hear the notes well. Would it be worthwhile to purchase the Soundlink Max for travel and carrying in my backpack with my laptop, chargers, etc.? I'm looking for something with a sound spread without a loss of quality music. Additionally, how does the Soundlink Max compare to the Bose Home Smart speaker and the SoundTouch 20 in terms of quality and volume? I feel the SoundTouch 20 doesn't produce good highs, possibly due to its older technology, while the Bose Home Smart speaker sounds really pleasing to my ears with the added advantage of Wi-Fi, 360-degree sound, and Alexa. Another issue with all the wireless Bose speakers and earbuds is battery drain, even when not in use, typically within 3-4 days. I've noticed this especially with the Home Smart speaker and my Bose wireless earbuds. Does the Soundlink Max have the same battery draining issue? Lastly, what are the two grills on the side for? Please let me know your views and suggestions.

I'm glad that you made a sound comparison to the soundcore motion. X600 and I'm glad that you agree that the difference is minor. In terms of overall Fidelity and response. I would like to know what the stereo presentation sounds like. Is it leaning towards spatial audio or not? Because that was the deal-breaker. Of course this Bose model didn't exist a year ago when the motion x600 came out, but it's good to know that something half the cost can compete favorably with the Bose. Maybe someone that has stereo miking can do a stereo comparison between the sound of the Link. Max and the motion x600. Thanks for your contribution. It was highly entertaining and informative.

Very smooth and full. Very nice solid build. Clarity is very nice. No regrets on my purchase. WOULDA been more reasonable for maybe 325$- 350$. But still love it. Yeah, but they're much bigger than the Bose Max. Speaker size is also a pretty big factor when choosing a BT speaker. I like the build quality of the Bose BT speakers, but with a $400 budget I'd probably opt for the Soundcore Boom 2 instead. It's around the same size and a lot cheaper. I suspect though that it won't last as long... 🙂

It all depends on how you’re going to use it. Will you do a lot of walking around & or have it really close to you? Then yeah, I guess. It has a bass heavy sound signature which tells me that most people would benefit more from it. If you’re looking for a true outdoor speaker, the JBL EXTREME 4 is the better option. It doesn’t put out quite as much low bass as the extreme 3, but the overall clarity & volume are much better. It also has a 24 hr battery. Now, if size isn’t an issue, you can spend a fraction of the amount of $399.99 getting the W-KING X20 for $224.99. It’s rated at 200 watts & excels at producing quality sound at louder volumes. If you’re not quite sure, look at some comparison videos to judge for yourself.

I ended up returning mine due to distortion, huge disappointment considering the price tag. Sounds great at low volume and sounds like a much larger speaker but once you turn it up specifically on bass heavy songs it distorts. Same issue with the soundcore boom 2 plus

Do you recommend any EQ settings for the Max?

I don't simply because it's already EQd by bose essentially, the EQ is better played with by each person based on their tastes.

Great review, I like the max but it’s too expensive , maybe I can get the 2 little ones , I just found a JBL charge 5 open box for $86.

I have tried it last day at store ... I was pretty impressed in the lower and mid volume quality . But anything past 70% volume is really annoying , i am loving my Boombox3 200% bettter .

I have a Bose Soundlink Mini 2. It has an excellent soundstage and sound for its size and price. Has anyone compared the Mini to the Max? I would expect it to be better for the price but is it worth the difference? Thanks.

I love the sound of my two Bose Flex speakers in stereo mode. But, as you pointed out, pairing them together is a nightmare. Bose really needs to update their app to fix this problem.

Press and hold down the bluetooth and minus button, do the same on the other speaker. They should connect without needing the app

@@randelv2914 Yes. Ultimately that works. But usually it takes me about 5 minutes in trying to do that because it crashes all the time. Really annoying.

I have two soundlink flexes and just bought the Max and I would say the two flexes and they are nowhere near the sound of the max. I’ve always been a fan of the flex and still love them, but the sound is not comparable to the max. Having separate tweeters in the max really opens it up. I can’t wait to be able to pair them.

I'm regret that I didn't have that speaker for this comparison, but I'd say I think the JBL would be a better buy at this point because it's also excellent. I do prefer the bose max over it, but we need them to put the max on sale first.
