Is the Bionic Floodlight as good as it seems on TV?

Today I'm testing out the Bionic Floodlight, which is an As Seen on TV solar powered motion-activated light. There's also some updated info on the older Bionic Spotlight that I reviewed in 2020.

I’ve got something similar that screws into a lightbulb socket. And I love it. But it’s so bright it lives in my attic. It lights the whole attic area. It’s too bright for a closet.
When you evaluate such outdoor lights, you should also put the unit in your freezer for a week to simulate what it has to go through in a large part of the US. The cold kills some lights.

@Redemption Yeah and in areas where there isn't wiring thats fine, but having a hardwired floodlight is smart in areas with wiring, specifically a LED one. But these kinds of flood lights are good in areas without wiring.
Solar LEDs definitely seem to work best shining down from atop. We have a some and they worked great before not so much in the new house. Love the Bailey video! Best co-host.
I literally just saw an ad for this a couple days ago and my first thought was if you were going to review it lol. Thanks for curing my curiosity!

I have a flood light from the same company with a different design that works great! I've been using it for several years now! Mine is mounted up high at the top of my patio and gets excellent coverage. Mine has a light in center and two adjustable wings on either side of it. Mine is in the back yard in a remote area with very few little light pollution. The star show out here is spectacular!
Hey James. Have a great 2023 with tons of funky gadgets to review! 🙂 I'm glad you talked about Bell & Howell and it's Pierre Cardin syndrome. :-) As you mentioned, old people like me remember them for very different products.
I don’t own a dog, but I get super happy for Bailey appearances.
Thank you for the review, I am going to purchase. Thank you Bailey for your assistance
Just saw the commercial today and was wondering how good it was. Thanks!
Happy New Year to you, Brandon and Noah ❣️
We have the flood light and 2 spotlights for over a year and they have always worked well. We live in the country, no street lights. Need to mount them high and the only time we had an issue was with heavy snow covering the solar panel.
My guess is that the light worked better in the driveway because the cement was far more reflective than the darker/browner dirt in the backyard. Having it higher would obviously make a difference too. You have a good sidekick with Bailey, as long as the items you review aren't food :)
I like the one Home Depot sells. It’s brighter than both your units. I have had it installed for two years now and it’s still works great. The Costco one lasted one week. That is when I switched to the Home Depot brand.

Great timing! I just saw this advertised and was wondering if you had reviewed it. Thanks! I have a very dark back yard and I'd like to have a light back there, however I don't want a REALLY bright one because my bedroom window is in the back and I don't want the neighbors dog turning a light on that blinds me 😆. I rarely comment, but love your videos!
You’re energy is always so positive. It’s always uplifting to watch your reviews.
Thanks for the strobe warning... Some of us need those! Appreciate it!
I’d like to get something like this for my dog pen outdoors so they can see when I feed them after dark or if they gotta go potty. I trust your review!
I've had three of those setup at my place for almost a year, and they've worked great. Never used the remote though.
When you got to the 3rd button on the the remote, I mumbled...no, don't push that! (Boom) 😆 But in all seriousness, I agree with you...the effective range appears to be only 10 feet (which isn't too bad on the ground). It could still be used for a walkway light or small driveway. You're right, the light reflects better off man-made surfaces.
I would say mounting anything on the ground would be for ground effects like driveway passageways a tree in your access road etc. you’re always gonna get more light when you mount something up high. Currently I live in a very dark suburb in Illinois and my neighbor has these extremely bright lights electrical AC that they mounted on these 10 foot poles they are so bright they light up my entire house on the backend so maybe having something that’s a little dimmer would be more satisfying for your neighbors I kinda like it

Your comments about B&H are spot-on with my experience. They used to be a great trusted name, but now they will stick their name on just about anything. I still have my '50s era 8mm camera and projector, done in solid metals, and they still works just like they originally did. Had to replace the bulb every decade or thereabouts in the projector but it still chugs on. I haven't purchased any newer products that even lasted a year. Formerly great name now gracing throwaway junk.

I've had the Bionic Floodlights for 2 years now. They've endured the hot Texas summers, cold winters, and everything in between. I have 2 of them each screwed to a 2x4 that's zip tied to my fence. The third one is on the corner of my house. I keep the solar panels pointed straight up at the 12 o'clock position. The only thing I don't like is that you have to be within about 15-20 feet for them to come on. Plus I wish they'd stay on for longer than 30 seconds.
It always bugs me when I'm driving or walking on the sidewalk and everyone's driveway light comes on.
I'm so glad you did a review of these... I was looking at them the other day. I think some van people used them.
I have 2 flood lights for the last year. They are on the ground very happy with them. They work very well in all kinds of weather. Even stands up to our stormed.
I'm so waiting for them to license their name out for mints. Bell+Howell Bionic Tac Tic Tacs.
"there's a strange creature here" Bailey: *looks at you happily*
I thoroughly enjoyed your video and was curious to see what you had to say about this B&H Floodlight as I purchased one about two months ago. With that said, my light seems to be brighter than yours. Maybe bc it gets sun all day? Anyhow I am very happy with it so far as I didn't have to plug it in and it really lights up my driveway when I approach or enter my vehicles. The ability to point the 3 lights in various directions is the best.
Luv your channel sir! Thank You!!
I've actually seen the Bionic Spotlight on a few homes before! I recognize it!
I Try and find Glass style solar panels for my solar flood lights ,I find those plastic panels Roach out too soon with the Vegas Sun.Great Video again ,maybe with a huge corner lot like that you should check out the Inflatable Spas Costco and Amazon are selling, ive had mine for almost a year and its freaking awesome.
That was an insane assortment of products. Also have you reviewed that product that supposedly let you listen better by attaching what looks like a brick microphone to headphones?
I don’t know If it’s this one but it’s similar, my sister has something like this mounted on the top beam (lights facing down) of my nieces swing set so she can swing at night and it works perfectly for that. Just another idea for someone.
Great music on every video!!
Happy New year
They say not to install it near another light source because of the sensor, the thing that activates it when dark. Could have some weird effects. It could interfere, but it may not, like in this case.
Thanks for the review. I hate drilling so I will glue this.
When I saw the thumbnail I was intrigued since I just saw their ad again the other day (which made me think, "That's something James White would review " ☺).
U make outstanding videos, keep up the good work
Have you tried the Hyper tough solar motion light from walmart? Has a solar panel that is on a wire and stand so it can be mounted else where from the light. Also uses a replaceable 18650 lithium battery. Last time I bought one they were I think 10 bucks? Great little solar motion light imo.
We have two. They work pretty well with adequate sunlight. We have been having an issue with it not turning on soon enough, possibly because the sensor is dirty. It shines a decent distance. My only issue, besides price, is the fact that there is no on/off button, just an off button and it will kick back on again later. I wish they had one that had a button on and off as well as a motion sensor option.
Most of those lights are decent I use them around my camper so they do not get year round use. Only issue I have is if there is a hard rain or a lot of rain they do get moisture inside
GOOD VID.I LIKED IT.HAPPY 2023
I've got 2 of them had them for more than a year and i like them.
I actually have the original Bioic solar light. It actually still works after at least 6 yrs, maybe more. Motion detector works @ 45 feet which is impressive…..I think i got my 20 $ worth. Keep up the great reviews 👍
I just had wired outdoor lights installed on either side of my 2-car garage. I don't get the sunshine in the front or side long enough to charge these solar panels. This product does seem to work better than the other crap out there.
I've had my light over a year. It was working a week ago them it stopped. I took it apart also it's got a wired battery pack. Any thoughts how to fix it
Is it any better than the fan shaped light that can be screwed in like a lightbulb ?
That lifted paw from Bailey tells me she wasn't a fan of the stake mount either. Or at least she wasn't sure what to make of it
I was thinking it sounded really interesting but the ”south-facing” requirement (of course with solar) is a big problem for us. Our house faces almost due north and our backyard with the three gigantic maple trees makes it totally impossible to find anywhere that is clear enough to face south. Even without the trees blocking every bit of light (I call, our back yard the Black Forest - but I love our Maples!!!) it still would be close to,I,possible to get a south view because of our house. Sounds like a great product though. Thanks James, for this review and all your others. I truly depend on you for giving us the absolute truth!!!!!😄😄😄😄
@josephcarson8382
Жыл бұрын
some solar lights solve this problem by including a long cord to connect the panel to the security light. on my lights, they are about 15 feet. that can allow you to focus on finding the optimal place for both the panel and the light
Does anyone use those plastic anchors for the screws? Just asking. I'm installing my Bionic Floodlight this afternoon.
I need to see it working in colder climates, before I purchase it. Chicago is a pretty cold place. It would have been good to watch what it was capable of during this last "freeze bomb cyclone" thing that swept across the country. 🤷♂️ Thank you for showing us the capabilites of it.

Your "freeze bomb" days are numbered. I'm in the Ohio Valley area and I understand what you are asking. We just went through a hell of a artic cycle (-40* windchill). These kind of days are minimal if not negligible. I just checked your weather forecast for the next 2 weeks and *TADA* nothing like what just happened. Expect the product to work as advertised except for the 10-14 days of the YEAR you're expecting inclement weather
@thefucrew9865
Жыл бұрын
@@chrisbowe4238, same goes for all sorts of things...like pipes, rivers, even some firearms....they may not work, when you might need them. Thus, you'd like to know that it works (or doesn't work) when that time comes.....NOT when you need it in that emergency situation. Especially, if that situation lasts longer than "a few days". It is better to have and not need, than need and not have (it working).
Bailey just peeping at a distance - What weird gadget is James testing out today? Should I even get near it?

Where did you get your ring light in the background? I bought one today from Aldi, and the color choices just don't seem to change anything.

What is the temperature range? Many battery systems cannot handle other than average temperatures.
I bought the bionic floodlights few days ago to place them around the trash can that its really dark and seems to work great.
This is straight from Alibaba. I searched the site with random words like solar motion sensor light adjustable and found very similar lights but I am sure if you searched long enough you can find the OEM.
7:40 Wow! What an Album!
My parents have had one of these on their carport for almost a year and it aint too bad. Pretty sure mom got it from somewhere else because it doesn't have the B&H name on it.
those kinds of lights have a light sensor in them. when it detects light, it switches to charge mode. when it gets dark, it stops charging and either turns on or switches out of charge mode and starts looking for motion. if yours is working correctly, try turning it on during the day by walking in front of it. that's why it says to not install it near lights cause it will never switch modes. i figured this out because i have walk way lights that are solar powered. after putting up my christmas lights, they stopped working. i was going to buy new ones in the spring figuring they gave up the ghost, but once i took the christmas lights down, they started to work again. :)
Hey James, You forgot to take off the film on the old Spotlight solar panel.......................... Great review as always.
I wonder if it would work in my car as a deterrent if somebody was trying to break into it and the light came on inside when they got close to it.

The PIR (Passive Infrared) Motion Sensor relies on a combination of heat & movement. It won't work through the window glass.
I have this light and I've had to fix it a few times. One the solar panel swivel mount broke and I was able to fix it with a small nut and bolt and the latest fix was the mount that mounts on the wall broke off and I now have it stuck into a flagpole holder with a piece of PVC pipe and it is holding. The plastic used on many of these as seen on TV products is not very good and breaks down in sunlight. Where I have it mounted it gets sun most of the day. I have the bionic spotlight as well and that may be mounted where the floodlight was.

@@joerauhut9169 Typical china plastic made to break. I put some electrical tape onto the ball and then stuck a piece of plastic pipe that I found and it just happens to fit a standard wall mount flagpole the ones with the two holes where you have the flag straight or at an angle. I put the light on the straight part.
I have one with three lights. The solar panel isn't enough for three lights, and it's the same size as the one on this product! So my question is: How many days does it need to collect power before it has enough to work all night!
Haven't seen a solar light yet worth bringing home
What's the rated battery-capacity in mAh? How long does the light stay on after it detects motion? 30 seconds? 1 minute? Can you adjust that time? Can you make it into an all-night on light? Also, that solar panel attached, so that means it's best for south-facing area... that's why I prefer a separate solar panel so I can have the light pointed north and the solar panel mounted where it can see the sun... great review, still...
We got 2 and one of them stopped working about two weeks later.
That’s an odd creature in the backyard
Are these still available
I like it but why does it have to be south facing? I would of figured it would of had to be east or west facing as the sun rises in the E and sets in the W..😎
Does the signal go to your camera
I thought it said "Bionic Foodlight" and I was very curious what that is. I don't have dyslexia, but I do have my moments.
Happy New Year 2023🥳🎊🎉🍾🥂
You can use clear nail polish to recoat the solar panel
I can tell you are in the deep south west from having rocks in your yard instead of green grass, your west from Tx . So we continue ,.... I am in Tennessee and we have a small chicken coop and run for our 6 chickens and as of now that is great we thought ahead and as eggs are very expensive now we did good looking ahead of the future. We get 6 eggs a day from out new chicks we got 1 year ago. That is probably worth $10.00 a day. But anyway about the light. I got the special on the light off the TV where I buy one and get a 2nd one for $6.95. I grabbed that deal. I get them and the first one I opened worked great , we wanted them for out chickens for night time predators, Tennessee has Fox, Bob Cats, Bears, Racoons, among others that may try to get to them at night. So I loved the idea of the strobe flash . What animal wants to stick around after having that hit them in there eyes and face. Not even me I have been high in my day and that is not my thing!!! I'm an ex hippy at 65.So my conclusion is the first box I opened and put out worked great. The 2nd that was my almost freebie did not but it did before I put it out.. It did rain last night which should not have mattered but i can't get it to work and not just today because it did work before I put it out i figured they both worked I threw the boxes away they came in. I look at it like i bought the first one and I got screwed with the 2nd one.

OK, a "reasonable" review. I just saw the TV ad for this device. They show an "intruder" approaching the home and the "illumination" of the floodlight. The ad neglects the fact that there are stronger shadows cast in the opposite direction, light generated from behind the approaching intruder. ALSO, they state "no batteries" The solar collector has to store the power in an internal battery. It would be nice to know the storage capacity of the battery and if there is a means to replace the internal battery when the capacity weakens (or do you have to toss it and replace the whole unit) It would be nice to know how long the light will maintain full brightness if the light was turned ON and left as a floodlight for outdoor activity.
Seems like a good product.
I love Bailey...sweet pup...💕

It’s like Ball mason jars. Ball Corp sold that section off to another company like in the 80s or so and licensed the name ball to them so they could use the logo.
I read it as Bionic Blood Light. 😁
Mine was great for 2 years, last night it only lasted for a total of less than 5 minutes. The remote battery was dead when it arrived, I never needed it anyway.
I wish you had talked about what to do when they don't work right out of the box, changing batteries etc.
Dad, throw the ball!
COB lights are not very directional, they shine in a very wide arc. If you have them mounted on the ground most of the light is probably shining up into the sky rather than in your yard. Mounting high and shining down is a better use case for sure.
