Is the Bionic Floodlight as good as it seems on TV?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today I'm testing out the Bionic Floodlight, which is an As Seen on TV solar powered motion-activated light. There's also some updated info on the older Bionic Spotlight that I reviewed in 2020.

When you got to the 3rd button on the the remote, I mumbled...no, don't push that! I would say mounting anything on the ground would be for ground effects like driveway passageways a tree in your access road etc. you’re always gonna get more light when you mount something up high. Currently I live in a very dark suburb in Illinois and my neighbor has these extremely bright lights electrical AC that they mounted on these 10 foot poles they are so bright they light up my entire house on the backend so maybe having something that’s a little dimmer would be more satisfying for your neighbors I kinda like it

Your comments about B&H are spot-on with my experience. They used to be a great trusted name, but now they will stick their name on just about anything. I still have my '50s era 8mm camera and projector, done in solid metals, and they still works just like they originally did. Had to replace the bulb every decade or thereabouts in the projector but it still chugs on. I haven't purchased any newer products that even lasted a year. I've had the Bionic Floodlights for 2 years now. They've endured the hot Texas summers, cold winters, and everything in between. I have 2 of them each screwed to a 2x4 that's zip tied to my fence. The third one is on the corner of my house. I keep the solar panels pointed straight up at the 12 o'clock position. The only thing I don't like is that you have to be within about 15-20 feet for them to come on. Plus I wish they'd stay on for longer than 30 seconds.

With that said, my light seems to be brighter than yours. Maybe bc it gets sun all day? Anyhow I am very happy with it so far as I didn't have to plug it in and it really lights up my driveway when I approach or enter my vehicles. We have two. They work pretty well with adequate sunlight. We have been having an issue with it not turning on soon enough, possibly because the sensor is dirty. It shines a decent distance. I was thinking it sounded really interesting but the ”south-facing” requirement (of course with solar) is a big problem for us. Our house faces almost due north and our backyard with the three gigantic maple trees makes it totally impossible to find anywhere that is clear enough to face south. Even without the trees blocking every bit of light (I call, our back yard the Black Forest - but I love our Maples!!!) it still would be close to,I,possible to get a south view because of our house. Sounds like a great product though. Thanks James, for this review and all your others. I truly depend on you for giving us the absolute truth!!!!!😄😄😄😄

those kinds of lights have a light sensor in them. when it detects light, it switches to charge mode. when it gets dark, it stops charging and either turns on or switches out of charge mode and starts looking for motion. if yours is working correctly, try turning it on during the day by walking in front of it. that's why it says to not install it near lights cause it will never switch modes. i figured this out because i have walk way lights that are solar powered. after putting up my christmas lights, they stopped working. i was going to buy new ones in the spring figuring they gave up the ghost, but once i took the christmas lights down, they started to work again. :)

One the solar panel swivel mount broke and I was able to fix it with a small nut and bolt and the latest fix was the mount that mounts on the wall broke off and I now have it stuck into a flagpole holder with a piece of PVC pipe and it is holding. The plastic used on many of these as seen on TV products is not very good and breaks down in sunlight. Where I have it mounted it gets sun most of the day. What's the rated battery-capacity in mAh? How long does the light stay on after it detects motion? 30 seconds? 1 minute? Can you adjust that time? Can you make it into an all-night on light? Also, that solar panel attached, so that means it's best for south-facing area... that's why I prefer a separate solar panel so I can have the light pointed north and the solar panel mounted where it can see the sun... great review, still...

I like it but why does it have to be south facing? I would of figured it would of had to be east or west facing as the sun rises in the E and sets in the W..😎

I can tell you are in the deep south west from having rocks in your yard instead of green grass, your west from Tx . So we continue ,.... I am in Tennessee and we have a small chicken coop and run for our 6 chickens and as of now that is great we thought ahead and as eggs are very expensive now we did good looking ahead of the future. We get 6 eggs a day from out new chicks we got 1 year ago. That is probably worth $10.00 a day. But anyway about the light. I got the special on the light off the TV where I buy one and get a 2nd one for $6.95. I grabbed that deal. I get them and the first one I opened worked great , we wanted them for out chickens for night time predators, Tennessee has Fox, Bob Cats, Bears, Racoons, among others that may try to get to them at night. So I loved the idea of the strobe flash . What animal wants to stick around after having that hit them in there eyes and face. Not even me I have been high in my day and that is not my thing!!! I'm an ex hippy at 65.So my conclusion is the first box I opened and put out worked great. The 2nd that was my almost freebie did not but it did before I put it out.. It did rain last night which should not have mattered but i can't get it to work and not just today because it did work before I put it out i figured they both worked I threw the boxes away they came in. I look at it like i bought the first one and I got screwed with the 2nd one.

OK, a "reasonable" review. I just saw the TV ad for this device. They show an "intruder" approaching the home and the "illumination" of the floodlight. The ad neglects the fact that there are stronger shadows cast in the opposite direction, light generated from behind the approaching intruder. ALSO, they state "no batteries" The solar collector has to store the power in an internal battery. It would be nice to know the storage capacity of the battery and if there is a means to replace the internal battery when the capacity weakens (or do you have to toss it and replace the whole unit) It would be nice to know how long the light will maintain full brightness if the light was turned ON and left as a floodlight for outdoor activity.

It’s like Ball mason jars. Ball Corp sold that section off to another company like in the 80s or so and licensed the name ball to them so they could use the logo.

COB lights are not very directional, they shine in a very wide arc. If you have them mounted on the ground most of the light is probably shining up into the sky rather than in your yard. Mounting high and shining down is a better use case for sure.
