It’s just like with the standard Apple Watches. Small updates every year. Worth it for someone who is getting an ultra for the first time. Yes, for the brighter screen, longer battery life, finger gestures and the newer chip for future proofing. If you’re waiting for a bigger leap, update your watch or phone every 4 years…

Software teams can have 1 year time horizons but hardware teams should focus over longer period, otherwise updates are always underwhelming. Seems their focus is split

Even 4 years is not enough already waiting sinds series 4, for a redesign. I ordered the ultra2 (man than thing hurt my wrist with the pressure of the sensor Damn, tried it a week, just started to hurt worse and worse, and I have a 7,5 inch wrist!). Than I put up the 9 and thought man…. It still just look as awfull as all the other one’s just a slight bigger screen. Why can’t they just make a normal size ultra one? Or not so outsticking back sensor, don’t care for 3 days batter, two days is also fine! So in the end, I sent both back. Maybe nxt year something changes 🤷🏻‍♂️

Precisely why I upgraded from the U1 to the U2. I plan on keeping the U2 as long as possible.

it doesn't seem like this, mate cpu was not changed over last 3 - 4 years .they finally changed the processor this year . It mean it will be working without lags longer. if you do not have ultra 1 but some se 2 or series 6 - 7 - 8 and want to update - it is definitely worth buying ultra 2 so they last you longer without lags

Got my ultra last September 2022 sold my seven love this watch only one in my area to have one then I will wait a couple of years for a new watch with more features

I had to come back to this video see your line at 2 minutes in, "At $99 the bands are an absolute Rip-Off." I so agree. Apple has made it easy to switch watchbands in and out, so they should price them more fairly, and sell more to make up the difference, while keeping users happier. As it is people are just buying alternatives. I like having my basic Ocean band in blue, but have actually substituted it out for the Pitaka carbon fiber band. That is not an inexpensive band, but the materials and construction, make the similar price more reasonable, especially on Black Friday sale days.

Yeah it’s so annoying. Apple have always made more a killing from accessories unfortunately and it’s part of the reason we had lightning port for so long.

I traded up from the U1 to the U2. Why? First Apple was offering $380 trade in but I got $411!! So, that took a lot of the sting out of the trade. Second, I expect the U2 to be a very long term watch. With the new and improved SiP9, I’m going to have great performance and double the storage for my music. The U/U2 make great iPods! Lastly, the display is the best even if the U1’s display was already great! Yes, these are minor upgrades but as someone who intends to keep this watch for the long haul they are good enough.

A good point if one can get a trade-in. The Ultra 2 was expensive for me, but if I was going to get it all, I would prefer to get the latest, as I will probably keep it for a while. I did not have an Apple watch before this. I guess technically I did do a trade-in, $5 for my Samsung Gear S3 Frontier. Not much, but I did not have any use for it and thought at least it would get recycled somehow. The charger was starting to get sticky, but the watch actually did still work.

@@donaldstrader7241 The good news going forward is that if you keep it looking new, you should get top $$ for it when you decide to trade it in. I highly recommend getting two very inexpensive items for your watch. One, a bumper case and two, a screen protector. I'm using a clear PC (polycarbonate) bumper case without screen protector. This will prevent scratches that are going to happen over time. While the sapphire glass is scratch resistant, it will shatter. So, I put a screen protector to give a little more peace of mind. Doing that is the reason I got more than I was quoted for my U1. I plan on keeping my U2 for a very long time and it should look new if I ever decide to trade it in not). I'll more than likely just get a new battery put in.

Offline maps when doing an activity like Garmin. So you don't have to rely on your phone and take it with you.

Yeah this is right at the top. Bizarrely apples latest release lets you do this on iPhone but only works with watch if it’s paired to iPhone at same time which is useless. Check out the app WorkOutDoors. I’ve spoken about it before but it lets you download maps to the watch. It’s an absolute BEAST of an app 👍

just got my Ultra 2 today…Does anyone's Digital Crown wobbles slightly, if you push down on one edge of the crown mine rocks. Just wondering if this is normal? tried on my S8 the crown also wobbles little…

No, I would call Apple or who you bought it from. The crown shouldn’t wobble.

They should have called it 1B or 1+ instead of 2. Probably called it 2 to make more cash. I dont mind that they release incremental upgrades so long as the long term progress is not slowed by this.

It’s insane how people spend their money on the newest version of Apple tech each year when, more often than not, there’s not enough changes/upgrades to justify the cost. People just like to be trendy and Apple knows this.

Being trendy had nothing to do with upgrading from U1 to U2. I agree that there's not THAT much of a difference between them. However, I intend on keeping my U2 for the long haul. That being the case, I wanted the SiP9 with 64GB of storage and Siri on the watch. From what I’m hearing the next big thing will be blood pressure. A reason for me to upgrade yet again??? Not really. Same goes for blood sugar monitoring. In both cases all they'll be able to tell the wearer is you BP is going up or down, same for blood sugar. Big whoop… so, no, I will not be upgrading. Any other features? No. Thus, the U2 is the end of the line for me. Since I got $411 in trade-in for my U1, that paid nearly half of my U2! I've had the U2 for 6 months and really like it with no regrets. I use Dexcom to monitor my Blood Sugar which shows up on my iPhone and U2 (or any Apple Watch), so I don’t need Apple's effort which may or may not ever happen. The main reason I like having the U2 is communications! It makes a very good iPhone on my wrist. It’s worth having the extra $10 a month. In fact, I find myself leaving my iPhone home more knowing, I can make/receive calls and texts. For texts, I use dictate which is faster and easier than trying to type on the keyboard!

Since Ultra targets people that do outdoor activities, I would consider a longer battery life a must. I should prep a powerbank just for my watch on multi day hikes? 3000nits is cool (especially the 1 nit part), but I would easily trade it for a few more hours extra life.

100% agree. I know they have low power mode etc but there should be waaay more customisation available for battery

It is fascinating how people criticize this approach without thinking that Apple could have avoided this release and let everyone buy the same ULTRA 1 for the exact same price while they give us both the luxury to chose a cheaper one (while it’s available) and the benefits of a hardware upgrade. Is it unreasonable… really?

Since you are (ok seem to be ) a techie, you know an accumulation of small changes equals to a substantial change over time. The most you have to wait is 12 months for the latest and greatest iPhone Apple Watch. I think you are mistaken, Tesla constantly updates the hardware and softare if they think they can improve the product. Apple does the same but their hardware changes are 12 months, software are monthly. Tesla hardware change is more frequent.

It’s the size it is for longer battery life, a smaller size would defeat the purpose of the watch. People with petite wrist yet want more battery life, should go for the 45mm.

The design of the ultra is something people are keen to see in a smaller format and much like the iPad Pros, I think we’ll see that design language slowly entering into the standard watches as well

It would be great if CarPlay did work with the Apple Watch. I would be happy if my U2 would connect with my Dexcom G7 glucose sensors.

Just like with Elons Teslas they keep giving them new small updates every time they are ready. Consider this a spec bump. As the flag ship watch, they need to spec bump this to the front with the Series 9 - The target audience isn't the Ultra 1 owners (myself included) but people who haven't jumped on the Ultra Bandwagon yet. It's great and an even better package today than it was yesterday - at the same price. What's not to like if you were on the fence. Apple Watches and iPhone should last at least 3 years now.

The only reason I haven’t gotten apple watch yet. Is my GShock that i have, i have had since 2010… never had to replace the battery. Apple watch would need a new battery after 1-2 years… I don’t need cellular for it, just want to tell the time and MAYBE be able to do some extra stuff without having to pull my phone out… 🤷🏻‍♂️ i want one but not totally sold on it yet. Edit: if it were Black i would probably get one sooner than later. Next ultra 3 or whatever give us Black Frame, Dark Mode, more color band options ( i do like the Olive Green alpine ) and i will get one.
