Hi, I've been following your build. I am thinking of an Alu Cab camper for a single cab LC79. For extended trips, add a front runner fuel tank above your spare wheel ( if its the type hanged behind the rear differential). Needs no pump.

You know that's not a terrible ideal. With the regearing and the added weight im averaging about 10-12 mpg.

You have a lot of interesting points there. Especially about the mozzie nets and the awning walls. I'd like the fireplace, but since we aren't using propane for anything else, I'm reluctant to install it and become propane reliant. A diesel heater will likely do the same job and use the same fuel as the truck for us. Very good video and keep it coming for the Alu Cab - we got our's installed and picked up the truck last week, now busy planning and building the interior ... ;-)

Thanks for the insights (subscribed!) I have double cab six ft bed too! (I’m not alone 😂). I’m about to order one of these, and was hesitant on the window, but will add that to my initial bare-bones build, along with the awning. I’m still not sold on the table slide, though.

Great Review! I also have an Alu-Cab on a Tundra.. I am going with the Alu-Cab box on top.. I think its a great addition. not so sure about the gas cans tho. too hard to get off and down as the one on my right passenger hanging off my Cab is hard enough and heavy enough to take off! Its a Front Runner and was easy to mount! holds the Wavian fuel tanks! Cheers!

Hey Sean, really enjoy watching your videos. I have a 2020 Tacoma Access Cab with a Alu Cab Canopy Camper. Embarrassingly I’ve only camped a handful of times in the past year since I got it. I love that I can drive it like a normal truck without it being a typical camper with sides that hang over the bed frame. I saw you talking about bedding, if you are looking for a little more comfort, check out the Dually Long from Hest Mattress. It’s super comfortable and wont stiffen up in the minus degree weather. The ease of use of the camper is excellent, I’m setup and close in less time than few minutes. I agree, the fireplace is super efficient with the 25 pound propane tank on low, I usually light the fireplace and close the camper and wait 30 minutes before turning the internal heat fan on, I find it works really well in blowing really warm air at once then. I’ve read your comments and am considering the LRA fuel tank, but yes weight is for sure a consideration. I have it on deaver leaf springs on OME BP-51 suspension and 32.7 inch wheels on Falken WildPeaks. I have 1 AluBox with the Goosegear plate which I use for my full kitchen (knives,jetboil base camp cook system, spices, oil, titanium dinner set and mug). Also next to the AluBox, I use 2 Frontrunner Wolf Pack Pro’s that are stackable, one is used as a pantry and the other is for my supplements). For a toilet I use an Ironman 4X4 bush toilet (i use biodegradable bags, use it and bury it). A WeBoost Antenna is on the roof rack that I can pop up when needed. I didn’t get the window either, I am planning on it, just the reason I avoided it was because of security, but I think it’ll be great to brighten that space up without opening anything. I am a minimalist at heart and love that so much comfort and living can be done in such a small place. I am re-geared to Yukon 4.88 but am considering the Overland Tune which I havent done yet. I ended up deleting the rear seat jumpers in the Tacoma and putting in a dual compressor National Luna connected to the lithium battery in the camper, this has been great. Looking forward to more videos, theyre very honest and clean. Wishing you and your wife safe travels wherever you go. Cheers.

Great comment here. It sounds like we're configured similarly. I think I'm really leaning toward the additional Alu-Box over the cab. It solves many issues for me and is over half the cost. Cheers! Hopefully, we run into each other sometimes on the trails.

Hey Sean, yes running into each other would be great. I am on the South East in Florida, but will head out West in a few months when the weather cools down a bit. I would love to be in Sedona, but def this heat wave has limited travel quite a bit. You are lucky you have room over the cab. I dont have one but Sherpa makes an access cab roof rack that fits with my Alu Cab, but the issue is they have to drill holes outside of the standard holes Toyota gives. I would then be able to use that space for a little storage and also heard of slight aerodynamic improvement would take place. I’m just nervous about making holes in the roof that aren’t factory. I just saw you uploaded a new video, will jump on that. Safe travels.

@@Stranger451I have stage 3 Expedition Series Deaver Leaf Springs. I havent got any sag at all even with the full alu cab setup. Very happy with it. I don’t have a video or anything. Thanks for the great review ! I'm planning my build and am looking all over for this kind of info. My questions are, could an enduro / trials motorcycle fit through the door (weekend trips/ local riding)? I live in western Canada ( BC and Alberta). Looking to do a Ram 3500 build to go overlanding from the Arctic Ocean to west coast salmon fishing, hunting and Baja California, maybe as far as Panama. Also, do you think spray foam or other type of insulation like a blanket type, would be needed for Canadian winter camping? As far as I can tell, the AluCab has about 85% of my needs covered when I compare it to competitors or racks with RTT's and even the slide-in-bed composite overlanding style campers. Again, appreciate your insight and review.

@@seandawnvantures2001 On second thought and questioning my own sanity, I think trailering the bike will be fine. Why put a dirty bike inside the camper that I'm keeping clean, only to have to wash the bike AND the camper afterward?

Have you considered some long-range fuel tank conversions for your truck. I think one company is named Long-range America or something like that. It’s a more expensive option but it would mean that you wouldn’t need ti find a space for cans and it would keep your center of gravity lower as well. Then you could just fill up what you typically fill up with or increase the amount you fill with for those times you do need more range.

I have considered it. It's really the cost that makes me pause. I know "the cost" based on what I have already done is ironic. It's more the cost and "do my adventures in this rig really need a larger tank." I figure ad time goes on, and I will see how big of impact fuel has on our adventures.

@@seandawnvantures2001 Can understand that. In that case, 813 Fabrications make a Rotopax holder designed to fit between the camper and cab. The piece of metal on either side meant to fill in the gap can be modified to be on a hinge as well to keep the slipstream benefits while also masking the gas cans to some degree. This would allow for about 4 extra gallons of fuel you can carry (2 gallons each side). Definitely more friendly when it comes to price.

Sean, you didn’t mention anything(pros/cons) regarding the Redarc system or the Goosegear storage system in the AluCab setup. What are your thoughts on these? Thanks. 😀

Hi Steve, I have zero regrets with those two additions. The Redarc is the best power management system I have used. Our Goose Gear configuration works great for us. One downside is keeping the floor clean, but I have a plan on how to make that even better.

I am building out a Gladiator Rubicon with the ACCC (the canopy camper is getting installed as I type this) and I went with the Long Range America 17 Gallon Aux Tank for my extra fuel needs. I see someone already mentioned this to you though. I believe for the Tacoma it is a 33 gallon tank as opposed to an Aux Tank.

I think a Gladiator Alu-Cab buildout is one of the best combos around. Capable and comfortable. What I failed to mention in the video is the Alu-Cab Box for Jerry Cans is half the cost of the extended tank. That's whats giving me pause.

@@seandawnvantures2001 you also might ask Sherpa if you can buy the Animas C side fairings with a extra cross bar and your rack should go almost to the camper. Looks like you got the Animas B which is not for the long beds

@AKlivn Yeah, I figured there was one that got closer to the cab itself. This is what Mule recommended. I should have also mentioned one reason, I was considering the Alu-Cab storage with Jerry Can Mounts because it's over half the price over the extended range fuel tank.

@@seandawnvantures2001 On our Land Cruiser we found that the big tank has a big downside: weight distribtion changes significantly when the tank is full vs. empty (200L/52G tank). For the Jeep Gladiator EcoDiesel there is no large fuel tank, so we are also looking for a way to fit about 10 Gallons of extra fuel JUST IN CASE. The good thing about these is, you just don't have to use them. The bigger tank, let's be real: you're always just putting in the tank nozzle, set the auto stop and let it fill. So you'll have this weight and the weight changes most of the time.

@guidon.5413 I have heard others mention that problem with the extended tank. That's another reason I should consider the Alu Cab Storage box with Jerry Can mounts. It's over 1/2 the cost of the extended range tank. Extra storage and fuel only for trips that need it.
