IS THE AEROSPACE JOB MARKET DEAD IN THE UK?

Want to support my channel? - ko-fi.com/sa64r
What will the future job market in the aerospace industry look like in the UK?
This video compiles some research I have done to paint a picture of what the aerospace job market is like in 2021 and what I suspect it will be like in the near future.
It covers a breakdown into civil aerospace, defence aerospace and space.
If you’re contemplating whether aerospace is the right industry to go into, this video will help you make that decision and give you a deeper insight into which aerospace sub-sector is best to go into right now.

    I see no one has replaied to you and im probably far too late to be of any use but yes. Those modules will come in very handy especially with year 1 maths modules and year 2/3 engineering management modules (depending on course layout). Other modules/ work that will be made easier include anything with dynamic mechanics and aeroelasticity.

    Does the aerospace industries of UK recruite the employees out UK or there are many issues related to security or defence (like space X or Virgin Galactic)?

  • @SA64R

    @SA64R

    I'd say for commercial, there shouldn't be an issue. For defence it is highly unlikely you'll get in if you're not a UK citizen but for commercial space its still not clear as to what citizenship/residency requirements are needed.

  • @onetrickhorse

    @onetrickhorse

    Yes, we do recruit outside of the UK, including in defence, but it depends on your country of origin and the role you are seeking. For example, engineers from countries on arms embargo lists such as Iran cannot work in many roles, and technology on the dual use lists or covered by ITAR (international trade in arms restrictions) is restricted to UK, US or EU nationals only. It all comes down to sensitivity of the role. Some civil roles are also subject to restrictions too, depending on what it is.

    More freedom as to where you can work, easier to learn new practical skills i.e you don't need a lot of area/money and also greater potential to start your own company as you don't need huge amounts of cash to build a software product in comparison to an aerospace part.

    Hey, it is tricky because in the UK there isn't a huge number of top tier roles so many engineers are competing for the same positions. So doing a bachelors in mech then a masters in aero is great. Many people do that. The challenge with an international coming to the UK is that you'll be unlikely to get into any of the defence side of aerospace until you're a citizen. However, civil aerospace will take you if you pass their recruitment processes.
