Not sure were you checked in EU for the same prices but i just signed a id4 AWD one (so big battery) with all the best packs for 50k euros all taxes included while last year it was in the range of 63k-65k. The prices are so down that the id4 wasn't even in my short list when i started to check for an electric vehicule. At the same time they didn't do anything for the GTX line which with the same equipment is 72K euros. 22K more for not even a 1 sec diffence on the 0-100km... the pricing strategy doesn't make any sense.

Nice video. I have wondered why it wasn't possible for vw to allow us to precondition the batteries via some sort of software update. Do you know if this feature is strictly for the 2024 model or will it trickle down to the earlier years as well?

Great question! I’m honestly not sure. I can’t see why it wouldn’t be technically possible since all ID’s have the capacity heat and cool the batteries but I’m skeptical we’ll get on route pre-conditioning.

I should also mention that in Canada, you can now order a 2024 model. The price is higher; my 2023 AWD S is about $3000 CAD more, although a bit of that difference is because my Statement package didn't have the 360 cameras or folding side mirrors.

Nice video and much appreciated. I don’t know if I should feel upset with myself or pleased that I got a great deal on a 2023 model as I just signed my lease this past Monday on a ID.4 S Pro Plus. It’s a hell of a vehicle and a blast to drive and loaded with creature comforts, and as a long time Audi fan. It’s reminiscent of the performance and ride comfort I’d come to love with my Audi. The lack of ventilated seats was nearly a dealbreaker for me, since I live in the Arizona desert, so I’m kind of bummed that I missed out on that upgrade. I don’t care about the larger screen because what I have is large enough. My rep told me 100% for sure that the horsepower and range of the dual batteries would be upgraded to what we see in your video. Can you confirm that? If that’s the case, I won’t feel too bad because I did get an excellent deal. 🙏

First, thanks for watching and for your kind words. You got a great deal on a great car. Certainly, you would not have gotten the same deal on a '24 in 6 months. I will say if it's any solace that the AC in the car is amazing and amazingly efficient and you can pre-cool it with the app even if it's parked in your garage, which is pretty neat. Unfortunately, no, our '23s will not get the range or horsepower upgrades since they are switching to brand new motors to achieve that improvement. Enjoy your car and know that these cars are really tech devices, and tech moves and changes quickly. Take care!

@@EVeryMile01 I guess this can be seen as a good news/bad news story. Good news is that I got a great deal - a little over 12k in discounts and tax credits. The rep stated the same regarding the AC and take you both at your word of course. So that’s all good. But the rep apparently misled me if you’re certain the batteries cannot be upgraded via software. That bothers me. But the good news is that I am ok with the range. Dealer gave me the charging station outright so that’s cool. As for HP, also good news in that the car is already a beast with all that instant torque and HP. I call it the beauty and the beast. But hopefully VW can STILL manage to deliver more performance via software to my existing batteries as Tesla has apparently done with theirs. 🙏🏻

@@TheBerkeleybob Absolutely. Tesla has definitely delivered powertrain improvements via updates but I don't have any confidence in VW's software updates. They are just now doing OTA updates on 2021 models meanwhile our '23 which we've had for over a year now, hasn't had any at all.

On a positive note, however, the very fact that VW HAS in fact delivered such updates in the past (albeit at a snails pace) suggests to me that it is possible and within their wheelhouse to effect such updates. That would be awesome and I can wait - even if it’s as long as six months to a year. 🙏🏻

Even more interesting than the rear motor going from 201 to 280HP is that the torque increased from something like 220lbft to ~400. That puts the new RWD motor at more torque than the old AWD front/rear combined torque. It gets a little tricky to compare when they're different style motors and geared to different rpms so the actual absolute peak torque might not add, but 400 > 300 > 220 for sure. My understanding is that the front motor in the AWD stays the same, so that won't get a bump, but the rear motor torque bump is so high that both the RWD and AWD 2024s should feel exceptionally snappy from 5-30mph. Above 40, HP is probably going to be the more relevant metric and it will perform like any 5000 pound electric powered vehicle with about 330HP.

I think it makes sense to get the 2024 model. Yes, the 2023 models will be much cheaper but they can't be upgraded to 4.0 software versions. Also, the power and range increase is a very good addition. The bigger infotainment screen and also the illuminated buttons are very good. I wish they changed the windscreen buttons to 4 instead of 2 but I guess they don't want to admit their fault on that.

In Europe Chinese brands are 2-3x more expensive than in China(thanks to harsh taxation), it makes more difficult to compete with manufacturers like Stellantis, VAG or BMW group because they could flood the market with cheap and high quality cars.
