Is the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-in a better SUV than a Toyota RAV4 Prime?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The Santa Fe has been in Hyundai's lineup for over 20 years. This 2023 PHEV has LED headlights, large satin silver grill, 19in wheels and AWD. Is the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-in a better SUV than a Toyota RAV4 Prime?

Hi Joe just want to say I'm honored to learn from all your car reviewers and I have known a variety of new makings and deferent engine types, also learning all about the new vehicles that are coming up. Cheers to more reviews.🍷🍷🍷🍷
Hello! I just purchased a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy 3 months ago. I absolutely LOVE this car! My sister loved it also and bought herself one. There is a big difference in the limited vs the Calligraphy. I enjoy all your videos and watching your video inspired me what car to purchase and what car to avoid for the past 2 yrs. Thanks so much!
Great video review Joe. Thank you very much!
I have the 2021 Santa Fe, limited, same as this, not plug in. I love it, and it drives really nicely. I only have one gripe with the wireless charger, it does not work most of the time, although my phone's cover is thin, and works with other wireless chargers. Great review Joe, as usual, Ty.
I love the color you add to your videos! Laughing is healthy and you do a great job at making us laugh while giving us great reviews! Thank you!
Thank you so much for reviewing more hybrid SUVs, Joe! We are looking for a plug-in so this is super helpful :-)
Awesome Joe and Steven😊😊😊

Hi Joe, this is a dandy of a Hyundai Santa Fe I like the flat black fenders.
Sometimes i wont be interested of particular car model but i would still watch review just for fun.. i love Joe's analogy's, comparisons and funny phrases 😂, Same time its not only jokes there is enough useful technical information 🧐my only Zonk is i wish some of hard numbers are converted to European friendly values 🤓
Luv the look and space and- price! Would buy over the prime! Great review!
Wife and I own both a 2019 and 2020 S-F both SEL models. 2.4 engine 185 HP with 8 Spd trans, non turbo.....we are super happy with both. No rattles or squeaks in either.........
This is great. Thanks!
Hi Joe, great video as always! I'd be curious to see what you think of the new 2023 Outlander PHEV, either an SEL Touring or SEL Premium trim level if you can find one. Similar to this Santa Fe I think it really gives the RAV4 Prime some stiff competition (especially considering they should be easier to find). The interior in particular really is a step above but the engine is no slouch either. Having the (tiny) third row really puts it in a class of its own though.

Hi Stephen! Thanks for tuning in and sharing that input!
Hello Joe, great video. Quick question: is there a spare tire for this vehicle? I saw the 2022 one had it.
Hi, greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽
Good review Joe. Question, would you take this over the Santa Fe Limited hybrid AWD? Other reviews note what you said, the plug-in hybrid acceleration is surprisingly slow. Dollars and government rebate aside for the plug-in, I think the non plug-in hybrid is a better buy with the acceleration really close. BTW, your to kind about RAV 4 interiors as they aren’t close to the Santa Fe.
Most likely easier to install the wiper lower near the door cavity for the motor.
Great Review. i have 2022 Santa fe plug in since AUG 2022. What you didn’t mention is that you must use a slow charger. it can take you close to 4 . hours to charge from empty because you can only use a level 2 charger. it also has a smaller gas tank. The vehicle drives great and I love it.
@FrankTheTank14507

Just to understand, you don't have to charge this vehicle right? It will charge off gas only unless you want to plug it in correct?
@nealstorman372
Жыл бұрын
That is correct you can plug it in if you want or just use gas. You do get better gas mileage if you put it in automatic mode. I usually do that when I am local so I use less gas. When I am driving more than 10miles I put it in hybrid mode
Yes... But the Toyota fan boys will not be moved, and so to each their own. But the Santa fe phev is more luxurious for the price and is very efficient for its size.
It is a nice suv, looks good and drive good. Great for daily driving.
Using the Tuscon would've been a better comparison

Loving the Santa Fe and that smooth Silver finish. However Toyota's my favourite brand, and in terms of reliable plug-in hybrids, the RAV4 Prime is my go-to SUV. Yes the CVT is a downside and i realized that while Im driving a Toyota Axio and that's not fun at all, but at least i'll be driving a lot more, and heading to the gas station a lot LESS. That's what i love about hybrids.
One thing I noticed, you didn't talk about was how exactly the handling changes with the drive modes too. I love my santa fe hybrid and I noticed when you go into sport that the steering becomes a little more rugged

Steering goes from feeling lazy and easy to peppy and responsive. I'd use the mode more if you could use it in ev mode on my phev...

Hey Joe! Name is Chris. Love the content you put up on your channel! I just want to clarify that Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis for some reason don’t do Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in a wireless connection on their bigger screens, but they offer it on their smaller 8 inch screens. Pretty bizarre, but other than that, I’m digging it!

Should have charged it up before going on a drive, that was always in HEV mode. My biggest complaint, the battery gauge only drains to 1/4 left and saves that remaining portion for hill climbing assist.
Awesome so far and definitely can see it being competitive but who knows it could be the best option or the worse.

Hyundai makes the most beautiful vehicles! Awesome cars.
Yes, the Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid's _Limited_ trim gives rear passengers an AC outlet, rated at 150W, as standard equipment, yet the other trim, SEL Convenience, lacks an AC outlet even as an option [17:28]. And, true, neither of RAV4 Prime's trims, SE and XSE, offers rear passengers an AC outlet, yet the XSE trim's optional Premium package has in its cargo area an AC outlet rated at 10 times the wattage, 1500W, rivaling a household AC outlet.
Both are great PHEVs but I’d go with the Rav4, you get 10 more miles on pure EV and Toyota quality. Love the blind spot cams on the Santa Fe though.

@Raiti's Rides : you did not answer the question in the end : Prime or Santa Fe ? ;p personally I will go with Prime, the electric driving range is higher + it looks better both interior and exterior imho
I own the 2022 santa fe for the last year. I love it and I did not buy it to win races. For local drives we are getting 1.7 to 3 l/100 km. In the winter is it much less. Running only as a hybrid no plug we get about 7 l/100 km. The inside of the limited is absolutely fantastic. The apple car play is not perfect and could use some improvement. Primarly the wireless charger makes the phone too hot. the wipers are not really designed for winter conditions. The say they are made for aerodynamic. No one gives a shit about aerodynamics in a winter storm. Ideally they would install a led light on the charger area to assist with the plug in. 3.5 h to charge with a level 2 and 11.5 hours to charge with a level 1. Would i change the Santa Fe for any other PHEV? NO. My wife's friends have outlanders and they are all jealous.
Can we get some American comparisons please
Gas will still dominate for at least 20 more years! EV's are being too optimistic....There will NEVER be enough charging stations in populated US cities were everyone owns at least 1 car. Only in America where a family of 4 owns 2 cars, 1 truck, 1 or 2 SUV...

They need to beef up the electric motor(s) and the battery pack. I have a Jeep 4XE that would smoke this thing.
I test drove this car, LKAS works good just as good as honda as far as i could see. Good Travel car but the engine is a dog...and handles like a boat. Not sure if the screen is wireless android yet, probably not. UI on the screen is not comparable to android on honda now , since android /google is built in. Will not be supported by the new 7500 tax credit since battery and most parts are not domestically made. The one thing i liked was at night the buttons are lit up and is like a cockpit. Try driving a Tesla without a dashboard or buttons , there is no ambient lighting. The mitsubishi outlander phev is a much better car for the money as it has a better engine and battery for practically the same price. I am waiting for better options to come out as HTRAC is not all that IMO.. Forgot to mention you should test the key fob to see if the windows roll down by pressing twice on the unlock button and holding, honda is known for this feature . I do not think it works yet , only on the new Tuscan since 2022 as a easteregg "not advertised". This car was a pain to get in 2022 with dealer markups and glad i waited as I do not think this car will improve much compared to the competition currently being released. All car manufacturers had recalls and they can make mistakes like us. Toyota, Honda, Nissan, GM, Stellantis, Daimler and VW group had to recall millions of vehicles due to takata airbags. Mazda recalls 65 000 mazda 6 from model years 2009 & 2011 model due to spiders inside the fuel tank. 114,686 hondas had issues with backward cameras. Hondas are also affected by excessive oil consumption, transmission failures, power lock problems, etc. Not all hyundais/kias are going to catching fire, it will depend what's is under the hood, hyundai's v6s and v8s are pretty rock solid, just don't buy them if they had the theta II, Nu GDI and Gamma GDI engines.
