With a Force Touch trackpad with a Haptic Engine, Intel Broadwell Core i5 and Core i7 processors, faster PCIe SSD and Thunderbolt 2 with support for 4K monitors at 60Hz the new Apple MacBook Pro is a big upgrade for 2015. I also compare the specs to the New MacBook 12", test gaming performance with Minecraft along with Geekbench and Cinebench, HD video editing with Adobe Premiere Pro CC and take a look at battery life.

    Macs are expensive, but I have to be honest, since i was old enough i bought windows laptops or desktops and they all just seem to eventually die or slow down despite proper care. Ive had a macbook air for 3 years now and its literally as good as it is when i bought it, literally. I sometimes think there is some justification in their expensive prices.

    I respect your opinion, only because i like linux. A lot. And i only agree with the software, however the apple hardware is another story. And yes, Windows is complete ass, and they are lazy because they know they can get away with it. Linux is clean, sleek, and usually have beautiful and amazing distributions, and other then the infamous macOS counterpart, i have nothing against linux itself.

    For $1500 Macbook Pro you can buy an equivalent laptop (Performance equivalent) For maybe $900-$1000 saving you $600-$500. That is when other brands win. The problem with other brands are build quality, design, support, included free software (Macbooks come with at least $300 worth of software), and lastly battery life. So you gotta ask yourself, is saving $500 worth it?

    Isn't another advantage of having a Mac being free from all the hassle that you have in a Windows? Macs are expensive, but you are ultimately paying for the Operating System, which is relatively much more freer from viruses and malware, and you don't have to deal with all the annoying updates that you get on a Windows. It's just so much easier to own a mac than a windows.

    Whoa guys, after reading the comments I see that almost everybody here is missing the point. I'm no apple fanboy (in fact, I don't even own a macbook but my friends at uni do) and I can assure you that it's not "overpriced" or "stupid" because "you can buy a better desktop" or "x laptop plays games better at the price". These small 13" macbook pros are, at least as I see it, ideal for Computer Science/IT/Design guys who are on the go during the workday, and who need not to worry about finding a goddamn plug in the meantime. Sure, you can buy a 4kg asus/msi/aorus machine for a couple hundred more, or the baseline razer blade for 2 grand, but you're still missing the point. It's NOT meant to be the ultimate computational/gaming machine. It's NOT meant to save you the maximum amount of cash. It's meant to give you a full day of enough horsepower to do most tasks that this kind of people would need. Plus, having a UNIX system is highly appreciated in CS, at least developing in Windows is fucking shit compared to Linux/OS X. In terms of alternatives, yeah, the dell xps 2015 is lighter and with a higher res screen + touchscreen, but in exchange you lose the better processor+gpu, the pci-e ssd, trackpad, keyboard, design and quality. 2c. Not replying trolls.

    Nineshadow So what? That's irrelevant to the discussion. You will not get the battery life while retaining performance on any ultrabook in linux, and if you mean "buy a cheaper laptop and install linux" you're still missing the point.

  • @ChrisMorganYT

    @ChrisMorganYT

    9 жыл бұрын

    +Nineshadow My point was PRECISELY the battery life with a unix system in a small/light form factor. I have myself a laptop with elementary os but I can't get it past 3 hours, which is crap compared to about 5:30 hours on 8.1, and yes, I have tlp and other tweaks installed.

And don't even get me started on the "Magic" Keyboard haha. The 2015's got retina display issues tho so that could be a deal breaker for some.

    You clearly don't understand technology. Benchmarks don't accurately show the upgrades on CPU's! They are more efficient, run cooler and offer small advantages, the GPU is 130% more powerful than last year, the speakers are much better. the battery is a bit worse, the screen is incredible and it's thinner and lighter! It is literally not possible unless you know nothing about technology to regard the 2016 MBP as worse

  • @tiffanyapril5458

    @tiffanyapril5458

    6 жыл бұрын

    Alexander Vickers People who venture out to buy MBPs are usually dependent on high performance. The short battery life and useless touch bar are a deal breaker for people reliant on horsepower. The touchbar is granted nice but realistically not of much use besides aesthetic. Touch id however was a really great addition for quick login and purchases. Really, 2014 & 2015 beat the 2016 if you consider what really matters, especially to creative professionals who edit videos or work with graphics and photoshop. I'd wager the last gen model predecessors, with high specs are futureproof for many years to come and a much better decision for those on a budget hands down.

I hate when manufactures put hard drives in laptops, you already have to deal with the noise of the loud fans, and all a hard drive does is add that ticking noise that drives me crazy.

    Teiichi Kun The MacBook is definitely not a value PC. The price to performance ratio is just to poor for it to be of good value. Hell, even Alien-ware has better price to performance than the MacBook. The only thing it really has going for it is the PCIE SSD, but that can be replicated with any laptop with M.2, and an M.2 SSD.

    As a dell workstation laptop owner that I use for gaming, I actually like this MBP 13 2015. Bought one for my gf since her old MacBook crapped out but it lasted about 6-7 years and she wanted to stay in apple ecosystem. After using it a few times I'm impressed. Good battery, solid build, impressive screen and so so light + quiet compared to my laptop. Went with basic specs to keep the cost down but if it lasts another 6 years just doing basic things I think its a good investment.

    I have the 2.7GHz, 256GB model and I love it. The only gripe I have is that to get the 256GB storage (and *nothing else*) you have to pay £200 extra. I manage to get the 256GB model for £979 (With work discount+10% discount offer combined) but for the average person who wont get this, £200 extra for storage is a piss take! As a laptop though, its pretty much perfect. The £999 model is exactly the same so if you can do without the internal storage, go for the 128GB and just buy one of those SD cards that sit flush with the laptop, much cheaper and just as effective.

    I have been using macs for almost five years now because I got pissed off from the windows bullshit where I had to reinstall windows after every two months (not really) because of its shitty code... Windows is a nice operating system which I prefer in many cases but macs just work. Every time I press the power button, the computer boots and I can use it in under a minute. No shitty preparing windows updates, no errors during booting like I used to have with all of my windows machines. I'm not going to argue if someone likes windows more because of the different uses you can get a machine to do for you, but I am going to say that if you are thinking the price as a factor for not buying a mac, you are thinking wrong. If you buy a mac, you will get a working machine which you don't have to do anything for in years and you can just use the most perfect operating system in the world and enjoy yourself while using the machine without stutters and lagging.. The price doesn't come from the specs or the logo of the machine, they come from the reliability. Thank you, I have spoken.. :D

    I had a 2011 non retina MacBook pro. Worked well when I had it... But OSX just got boring for me. No qualms, no issues with it... I just got bored. Replaced it with a Surface Pro 3... It certainly feels faster, except graphics wise. It's also more convenient for my workflow, being that I draw a lot. Plenty sufficient for modeling some simple stuff in Blender, but would definitely go to my Desktop for rendering. This MacBook Pro would've been a definite buy had I stayed with Apple products, but I don't see a need for it now. Good review. It felt like some information was missed out/not elaborated on enough, but I have a good idea as to what this machine is about!

    +Debra-Ann Walker I am not sure about photography, but I used my surfaces (1 and 3) through out my college years and they're amazing. I replaced my usage of pen and papers up to about 90%, I went through my Cal I, II, and III, uni-physics I and II without almost using any papers. If you have a big flash-drive and not burden the processors with too much storage usage, then it's really a fast performer and very quit, great for in/out class stuff. Also, I love OneNote, you can organize your files so they would literally be divided into: book, chapter/sections, and pages...that was super helpful to keep my work organized and neat. As much as everyone try to make them sound like tablets, they are actually full blown laptops minus some power for heavy graphic stuff. I really encourage you to go to a near you MicroSoft store and checking them out yourself.......Don't buy the surface BOOK though, that one is only 1st gen and it need way more work for its price. Surface Pro 4 would be your to go to option, I believe. Cheers :D

    If you can find this on sale then go for it. Make sure you get the student discount. Apple has $100 off for students and so does best buy. Also, keep an eye out at best buy, sometimes they go on sale randomly. I got the base model for $1050 a few days ago after the student discount and best buy reducing the price another $150. Also, what Austin doesn't take into account, and annoys me is that the Macbook Pro's actually use a faster mobile processor than most Windows Laptops. So for photography you are better off here unless you go with a way more expensive notebook like the Surfacebook which is good for different reasons. So yeah, most places like Austin here skip that fact that Apple uses 28 Watt Cpus and use a way bigger battery, leading it to being heavier but lasting long on battery (10 hours) and being more powerful.

    Abubaker Alzuaree My friend's laptop was $1,500, which I admit, is expensive. It was large, but had great specs: i7, 12gb of ram, and a gtx660m. My desktop (which I spent about ~$1000 on at the time) had an i5, 16gb of ram, and a gtx660ti. We obviously used both for hardcore gaming. He could handle pretty much any game at full settings. The fact that a $2000 macbook that handles minecraft at max is just disappointing and a waste of money.

    Daily Cake Slice it is a waste of money for gaming....but yet again who would buy this for gaming?? It is annoying when people compare completely different things coming from the same perspective.

    Maria Angelica Medina Atm I'm thinking of getting a 15inch Macbook for when I'm out and about but at home I use a 27" iMac, which I have used almost every day for the past three years. I heard Apple are updating the Macbook Pro's soon, so not sure if its best to wait.

    Mokey Blackblood There are many notebooks with those features. But don't expect good battery life and an IPS panel display and so on for that much less money than the equivalent rMBP. I guess not everyone wants all those features and is just interested in specs.

I am always confused due to seeing so many people trying to invalidate a choice of computer but ignoring the choice of the car or the fridge or the clothes. I guess I am just blind.

    The experience on the Mac is well worth the premium price tag. I've used many Windows computers from cheap netbooks to fancy gaming PCs, and they all were a pain in the ass to use. While with an underpowered Mac, OS X is well optimized and Apple's build quality is smooth. Even running Windows on my Mac was more enjoyable than running Windows on other hardware.

    Working with Macbook Pro Mid 2012 since 2013, then bought the same type on 2015 again. This is 2017, I'm working with many editing apps but I'm good with my non-retina display and so-called-not-light-and-thin laptop. Apple's marketing is really good to make people 'think' they really need the so-called-new technology. Tim Cook sells machine while Steve Jobs sold soul with product.

    Daily Cake Slice You're a special kind of stupid. If you have a mac, you don't spend times playing childish games wasting your time like people with no lives. No, I use my mac to do work. Big boy work that you can't handle. Such as editing large scale films in 4K. Not Minecraft. I cannot belive that you even brought that little kiddie game into this topic. Well, go back to "fighting zombies" and I'll go back too making a living. Have a nice day!

And you bring me to that point, if you're going to use it for gaming, you need something proper to game with. I don't care if the screen is the size of my room, it should be able to play my game without lagging and a standard 60 Frames Per Second at a MeduimHigh to a High setting.
