Agree with the other comments. It's a great system in theory. But it shouldn't be destroying items that take tens of hours of grinding to find. Just makes me not want to play.

It should take some ideas from enchanting. Multiple choice rolls and keeps previous roll until replaced. The min rolls seem to have a super heavy weight @@warlug

Tempering feels terrible because it can literally brick a perfectly rolled item. Doesn't feel rewarding at all. Even when you do roll what you want. It's more of just a relief that you didn't brick...
Great system needs tweaking though. Bricking 5 GA bows back to back is frustrating and almost feels rigged at times.

it is rigged - all affixes are weighted they know what people want so make it harder to get certain affixes and that IMO isn't RNG

For those of us that don't have all day everyday to play and crap rng on top of that, there is absolutely too much gambling in this game. Between the occultist, Tempering, and masterworking it is ridiculous. SOMETHING NEEDS TO GIVE

It needs to be just like affixes... if you're willing to spend the money and resource you should be able to roll as many times as you need to. I just spent like 20mil trying to replace affixes for my Barb.

Masterworking should not be easier than tempering. My personal experience this season with tempering is more roadblock (bricking) than wins. Good idea just needs some QOL tweaks. If it mirrored enchanting it would be instantly better - multiple choice.
Dartlin Gaming released a video a couple weeks ago highlighting different patents that blizzard owns that may or may not be implemented into the game. Its worth the watch. Stuff like finding better loot based on playtime, collecting data of items and skills to weight the drops of certain items, the "pity" mechanic. Well worthe the watch. I dont like it because ive bricked 3 crossbows back to back rolling the exact temper 15x in a row, just a different value. If they made it so you cant roll the same thing back to back, it would be a huge win. Make it so i can choose to keep previous would make it even better, would make me want to use all the tempers to try and get a higher value.

I think we should be able to use scattered prisms to add single temper rolls. The number of scattered prism cost can vary by GA. This way we can add a single temper add a time. Also would be great to choose to keep the temper that we have already.
I do think they should just scrap the affix ranges and choose a middle point and leave it at that. So if it does 90-110% just make it a flat 100%. Edit: or another great idea is let us choose like enchanting, so keep or swap, but it still take up a temper roll
Good but with a serious * to it.. needs to be able to PAY to reset an item. tired of bricking 1B gold items..
Also needs more tempering options for skill points, Heartseeker, Bash, Golem mastery for example.
The only thing on tempering i get frustrated with rolling the same roll, 3, 4. 5 times in a row. I wosh back to back rolls were always different, somehow.
I would rather tempering be more deterministic. The rng comes in just getting the item itself. If I need fire res on an armor, just let me put it on there and move on. Im glad it in the game but let’s change this aspect of it.
Bricking anything with double or more greater affixes just sucks the life out of me. Still got my build, but could have came quicker.
How about if there is an item similar to scattered prisms that can add a tempering reroll to an item. Or the item gives you on one of your rerolls multiple affixes to choose from.
The pity system is a myth, I roll the same temper affix multiple times

Should be able to reset. Also what's the point of Pit Tier 200 if its not doable. The gear check stops most players to be doing the higher tiers (T100-150)...
I love/hate tempering. I've heard there's a weight system to certain tempers. I play a Sorc and I should not get thorns 5 times in a row with only threes tempers in that category. This has happened on many items so it's not just bad luck. If they made it equal weighting within the category it would make trying to get the temper you want at least a fair shot.
Tempering is a great idea, I love the direction. But I feel like there should be less useless stats that can roll. I think maybe making it more expensive to keep rolling. Masterworking is great, only change id like, is after spending all the time to get it to 12, let us pick the final roll.
It is gambling. For me, I pick an acceptable fall back roll when I reach the last chance so the item isn't useless. It's not a perfect solution, but it stings a lot less and I can still use the object.
Maybe just an option to keep the best tempers as we go like rerolling affixed works so we don't get completly useless tempers in the end
The tempering category access and limitations are THE SAME as the limitations with applying legendary aspects
Tempering is straight up dog shite. I bricked a 3 GA weapon I grinded for over 2 weeks because i rolled 9 times and didnt get the affix i was looking for. I rolled the same affix 5 times in a row. That makes me feel like the devs dont respect my time playing thr game. I dont gamble in real life and I dont want to gamble in a video game i play for fun. I play Diablo to challenge myself and make skillful plays. There is npthing skillful about RNG on RNG on RNG. Like it or not, trmpering is driving more people away from the game then is bringing them to it and the devs need to change it.

Yeah but then again I got some 1 or no GA gear and only materwork some stuff to 8 (weapons and a ring) and none over 8 and I can do 90 pit, beat Lilith and an uber boss so I "beat" the season. This stuff is just for people who feel the need to min/max everything. Not saying it isn't frustrating like having no ubers drop but it's not necessary with how things are.

Masterworking and rerolling affixes are fine. You can always reroll or reset the item and grind more. Bricking is just bad. They should look at masterworking and institute something similar. You should alao be able to keep your affix if you reroll like enchanting.

@@captturnip6020 sincs this game has come out there have been broken builds that have been able to do all of that and 1 shot uber lilith. Tempering hasnt changed that. I'm not saying that it should be a thing, but I think thats not a good argument. If you dont get uber drops you can always keep grinding. You arent locked out of ever finding ubers again. Tempering bricks an item and locks you out of using it.

@@christophermartin1315 I don't use one shot builds, it's just a heartseeking rouge and I actually had to do the fight. True I still skipped the balls of death but only because of stagger letting me hit the potion drop thresholds which stops her from being annoying so you just need to do enough damage. By your logic though just because you brick an item doesn't mean you wont find another one so keep grinding. I was just saying you don't need those top drops or perfect multi GAs to make anything work and do all content.

@@captturnip6020 grinding to find another great item still leaves you with the same problem with tempering. The system is inherantly broken. If it isnt, why is everyone trying to game the system with a "pity" mechanic. Playera shouldnt have to bend over backwards and try to manipulate the system. That just shows how flawed it is.
i think tempering system is not stable, it sometimes gives same affix over and over, and we have only 5 chances, i burnt many good items cuz of having not the affix that i need :/
the Devs talked about a journey with items - the issue is with tempering as you can "brick" your item before the journey even starts - I don't know how to do it but masterworking and tempering need to be the other way around somehow - I do like both systems its just a pain when you get a triple GA I don't want to temper it before I've even started !!

Season 4 should be called "Loot Royale" cause tempering and masterworking its just one big RNG slot machine.
Pity method doesn't work for me either. I have tempered 5 rings in a row and never saw my temper
People really misconstrue what a pity system really is. There is no pity system in diablo. To be a true pity system there has to be an rng focused on ONE specific item/affix. You cant do that because you cant pick ONE specific affix. Only a group of affixes. A pity system requires a guarantee after a set amount of tries. Cant do that with 5 tries, regardless of switching gear to temper because its all based off of a GROUP rng set. So saying there is a pity system is false information and pure clickbait. People like rob preach a pity system in diablo, but he also consistently spreads false information for clickbait. There is no pity system.
I think tempering overall is a good system. However I don't always look forward to using it. Permanently bricking a good item feels terrible. By good I mean an item with well rolled affixes or greater affixes. I think tempering needs a recovery process. Make it incredibly expensive. 10 million gold or more, and or make it cost a large portion of rare crafting or summoning mats. Cost prohibitive enough to not be used all the time, but a way to save our extremely rare well rolled items. Also some type of previously rolled affix exclusion would be nice. Using all of my rolls and getting the same useless affix every single time is smash my PS5 rage inducing.
Well, being casual player . I do think lower gear ahould have more roles to get us able to look for better gear
Completely bricking an item early game, not so bad. Incorporate Greater Affixes and bricking those? Mental defeat. If they can incorporate a “reset” with a rare mat or something. To make it fair, if you reset a bricked item, it gets a -5% decrease to a random stat, give and take kind of like a tax system.
I love it but it sucks when I find a god tier item and the game opts to fuck me over and not give the rolls I need on it turning it into a paper weight. The amount of times I had to ditch something as it rolled badly is insane, like with my Rouge I bricked 25 bows and crossbows in a row. I have noticed my rolls do seem to improve rather significantly if I respec my build before hand. Like I am running a Rapid Fire Rogue and if I respec to Barrage before I temper I get nothing but rapid fire rolls and vice versa. Once I noticed this the problem got a lot better. Annoying I have to respec quite often but better then losing anymore god tier items. Worst item I bricked it was a triple greater affix legendary on a bow with massive critical strike, max life and Vulnerability all rolled at max but the game rolled +chance to fire twice with Barrage 6 times in a row. Respeced to Barrage after that but was genuinely pissed for 3 days after that

I think tempering is a good addition to the game. But I think it should come after masterworking. Ruining an item just after you find it isnt that good.

Tempering is an attempt at something good, but failed. Getting a good roll = emotions +10 yay! Bricking an item = emotions -100000000. It just doesn't compare. Just make it that the cost goes way up after a certain attempt. And take out those dam recipes with 6 options....Just opened a treasure bag with a 925 triple ga 2 handed scythe...int-max life-damage....not tempering it.
Really.... ? The item tempering options mimic the options available to those items through the aspects....
I think tempering is ok. I also think that a "material" that could reset an items tempering would be nice. I also believe a material to block out 1 of the temper options you dont want your item to roll on would also be nice. Overall, the temper system is fine. If you brick an item, you should just grind till you find a similar item or a better one. Im enjoying the game, and I've bricked 2 triple greater affix items, lol.
Heres another idea that's kind of out there. How about GA items give you extra tempers for every GA affix? Still retain the rng factor, but the added durability and rarity of item allows for more attempts to get what you need.
I think it's great because it makes you value the items much much more, and it gives you a lot more to work towards in the end game, if people got what they wanted so easy people would be either making an alt faster or quitting the game. could it be tweaked & made even better sure?
The tempering system is fine i have more of an issue with Masteworking.Costing 5 mill to revert back to base temper. I mean you lose all your materials that should be enough.
Tempering is trash bricking a grrat item cause of stupid rng is no fun
There has to be a chance to fail when you have so much control on what gets added... else you might as well just load a character builder page straight into the blacksmith and have the game just create bis items, then your done, EZ
Oh you guys are mad you bricked the items you farmed a couple hours for? *Laughs in Project Diablo 2* But seriously, tempering is perfect where it's at. There should be a sense of reward and success when you land that god tier stat. It's the end game mechanic that makes your char into the monster you can be. You have to be smart, you have to take risk, it's apart of the gaming experience. "But I am a casual I don't have time to do that." First off, everyone's a casual LOL, some people play more than others, you aren't entitled to the success of others because you don't want to put in the work. Also, good, you shouldn't have time to do it instantly. That's the point. The game is a grindy game, and therefore rewarding. What happened to playing for days at a time to achieve something great. Everyone want's something handed to them, and no one wants to work.
