We have a reverse centaur mini at one of the tables I dm at that was a minor practical joke when we first started playing together and has since become a recurring gag that haunts every game we play... It's a great figure 😂😂

There are 5 main things that keeps TaleSpire from being, in my opinion, the best way to play D&D ever: 1 - No in-game character customization. Yes yes, i know you can link Hero Forge (which is awesome btw), but you still have to pay to have it in-game. I'm the type of DM who have 25 different NPCs and i just do not have the money to pay for all of it (where i live the minis are prohibitive expensive). 2 - Fog of War. Simply being able to set that the assets that a player can see is linked to a radius around a mini, and assets blocks the vision, would be game-changing. I can't stand having to use 232543 hide volumes to hide and show things, and also when i do for one i do for everyone. 3 - Better Lightning I simply do not like how lightning is done in talespire, too much hassle to set it up right. Idk it might just be me. 4 - Darkvision Set different exposure levels of different players. 5 - Cinematics Absolutely of extreme importance. Right now you have the cutscene mode where you can grab shots that make the camera go into specific position and angles. I just NEED to be able to make a time-line that i'm able to move miniatures and also the camera. That's really not that hard to do. Miniature movement is basic stuff and camera movement can be easly done using splines. 1, 3 and 5 are a must have for me. Never ever i will play D&D in another way if these things are implemented. Everyday i pray for the Devs to implement these.

Which vtt does cutscenes? That sounds cool as heck. There's a mod for fog of war, but I'm not the right person to say whether it works or not because I use 234234 hide volumes and frantically click back and forth - so i understand that pain, lol. As for internal mini creator, it's coming in the works - mentioned in their discord today.

hey, so I do have a question. I saw your video about trying to run two Talespires with only one copy, however I purchased Talespire through steam. I'm not tech savvy and I do feel like I cant figure this out. but can I still run two programs with only one copy? I only ask because based on your video, you purchased it separately from steam, and than added it to steam so you can run it twice. If you can assist, that'd be great.

Oh I think you might have misunderstood - I bought it through steam, and just re-added it to steam as a non steam game. If you go check that section of the video again I go over how to do it.

@@ItsNket I have tried....and tried a numerous times. I'll have to recheck it a couple more times but it still doesn't pop up. I'll have to try again next time I'm on. Cause I'm planning on running the players map/version on the big screen for my soon to be group watch and be able to interact

I am planning to buy this game just to make customized maps for my personalized campaign, I would only present my players prints of overhead views of the scenarios, since we play in person and I am looking to avoid that "videogame feeling", its a good deal for it?

Yeah, you can get a few angles for screenshots without the UI, and in camera mode you can go to the straight top-down vertical cam. Although it does look a little strange that way, I’d recommend getting a demo version first if there is one to see. Dungeon Alchemist might be better for what you’re saying.

@@donmauricio2845 the website inkarnate.com is great, they have a lot of free tools that are more than enough to create some cool cities and maps. There’s also fantasytowngenerator.com that I really like, you can take what you get there and tweak / edit it on your own afterward

For that kind of product I wouldnt mind paying for DLC content if the price is fair. As you already mentioned, people already get paid to make custom maps, people would buy thematic stuff and will encourage the devs to make even more stuff. More minis, more thematic, animations for minis and effects.

The dice being rolled on the battle scape, drives me nuts. They need to have fade out for dice. As a terrain builder in RL it am greatly triggered when someone rolls a dice on my 60 hour construction project, that seems to have carried over to TS also :). Great vid as they all have been sir.

I hit the "GM Clear All" dice button so regularly that I've accidentally deleted dice mid-roll on my players, lmao.

I can make a straightforward map that can even reverse a reverse centaur!

Talespire added the beginning of mods, so character sheets and soundboards and such are already in. They also hope to do do player seats early next year and custom minis (not from heroforge) soon. They already let players test the upload, you just can't use em yet.

Almost all of the minis used in this video were made using HeroForge by Matt Sifton, he's working on getting his own thing set up right now but the guy's a wizard. He's in the discord, as well

D&D got a large popularity boost with their newest version 5E being so accessible as well as success found by Critical Roll / Stranger Things. Then CV-19 hit, and all those folks wanted to keep the dice rolling which led to a lot of us playing online from home. For some of us, the experience is hard to stay in the moment if the visuals are lacking (Roll 20 for example). Ergo, Talespire! Getting into build mode for me is akin to the zen you feel from painting mini's. I've been messing around with large armies combating each other. Something akin to Warhammer. Talespire isn't tied to D&D, so you can pretty much play any game on it you desire :)

Thanks! I was debating getting it but saw the mixed reviews, personally i was like "it's friggen 24 bucks. Any video game is way more." So i thought maybe i was just crazy? Nope i'm not, people are cheap as hell.

You’ll need a group arranged to use this for your game - it isn’t a game in and of itself. As far as I know off the top of my head there’s no voice chat, but there is text chat that uses speech bubbles over minis heads

It just looks so PS1 compared to the stuff I've seen on Tabletop Simulator. What can it do better?

I just picked up a copy. Seems pretty cool so far. Though I didn't know it was online only. Is there by chance a local mode for in person play so I'm not reliant on server/internet?

It does have microtransactions. Sure, technically they aren't in Talespire itself, but you even bring up the HeroForge integration as a feature. It costs 8 dollars to get permission in HeroForge to import your mini to a virtual tabletop. That's 8$ _per mini_, even for minor variations. Not just a microtransaction, but a real chonky one at that. And since neither the model importing TaleWeaver doodad nor the integrated character creator are still not around, this is the only supported option for getting any new models into the system.

That’s a completely different company that sells minis. There are dozens of free mods for minis or you can make your own, and it’s absolutely still around. Saying “it does have microtransactions” because a different company sells something supported in TS (and basically every other 3D VTT) is bonnnnkers.

@@ItsNket Yeah no. This is integrated in Talespire, and as of yet it's the only official method of mini creation, customization or importing. That it's going through a 2nd party source is largely irrelevant. You can say it's not the choice or "fault" of Talespire's devs that these are microtransactions, but it doesn't change that Talespire has microtransactions.

@@elowin1691 that’s not what a micro transaction is, though. TS is one of a handful of VTT’s that work with heroforge. Some ppl just wanna be mad. You’re buying a product from heroforge that can be used in multiple different programs, and you’re saying “this is a problem with one of those programs.” You can get modded minis, or make your own modded minis, or pay attention to bouncyrock updates about mini customization, etc. and it’s “3rd party”

Con: No Mac OS option. I’m over here sitting on a veritable cornucopia of brand new extremely powerful Cupertino built monstrosities…but Talespire won’t let me in the cool kids club. Other than that, it looks amazing!

@@mattwebber3278 that would be tremendous. I actually bought it without even checking and got a refund with no issue. When I dug into everything, it sounded like the move to Apple silicon threw a monkey wrench into things. If releases Monday, I’ll have it immediately. Then hopefully weasel my way into an Nket campaign or one shot.
