I can tell you I was definitely one of the Georgia fans calling for Bennett’s head. Until he led us to the first national championship in 40+ years. when he decided to come back, I decided to live and die with him. That doesn’t mean he went without criticism, but that’s different than calling for someone else. There is no doubt in my mind He’s a Georgia all timer and should be considered a college football all-time great, because that dude performed incredibly when he needed to and at the most critical times and biggest games with the spotlight on, so I would go beyond just Georgia. And yes Pollack is the fourth.

A better question would be most impactful Georgia player. That allows for consideration of both talent and the intangible qualities. Raw talent goes to Herschel and Gurley. I would argue Stetson gets the most impactful award.

Stetson as at LEAST tied with Herschel. Herschel played 3 seasons, winning 1 National championship and a huge part of why Georgia won. Stetson played a little over 2 seasons winning 2 National championships and he was hugely responsible for Georgia’s success in 2022. Ultimately , it is a little early to make these decisions. I think we need to give it about 5 years to get some perspective. But Stetson should be on the Mount Rushmore of bulldawg players.

He did not care one bit and shoved all his chips to the center of the table, proved literally everyone wrong save his parents, and even they could not have imagined how this story would have ended. Stetson is #2 behind Hershel in my book. The only reason I think this is because some people outside of the UGA community consider Hershel to be one of the top 5 greatest college football players of all time. As a long time UGA fan, I was hard on SBIV when JT Daniel's was benched. He made some bonehead passes and took the hard way out many times. But I can admit that Kirby saw something that I never did sew in him. I can also admit that I was wrong about him. He developed into a great QB. Its too bad that he is undersized to play in the NFL, because he now has the talent, and the heart of a lion. Good Luck SBIV.

When Stetson got the call before the start of the season, I was kind of annoyed. Not at Stetson, but at Kirby a little. Stet’s story is magical, but I worried about how future QB recruits would view the program since Kirby has a ton of talent at QB that’s been riding behind Stetson for a while. I know it sounds silly now, and I love Stetson, but that was my worry at the beginning. Running it back with him at QB was never a question I had, just how future 5 star recruits would view us.

Georgia fans wanting JT Daniels at the beginning of last season, including me, weren't necessarily wrong at the time. We have seen Stetson do boneheaded things at times. The problem is Stetson got better. A lot better. Improving nearly every game for the last two years. This is not the same Stetson. Georgia's receivers weren't running wide open against TCU for the most part. The coverage wasn't terrible. Stetson Bennett put EVERY throw EXACTLY where it needed to be. Just a tremendous performance, and a credit to his work ethic and preparation over the last several years. If Georgia had to play another game next week, I would take Stetson over any qb who has ever suited up for Georgia.

I think SBIV has to be #1 on the Rushmore after Monday night. Herschell has been the defacto ambassador for UGa for 43 years but 2 NCs, 1 SEC Championship, 4 Playoff MVP trophys, Heisman Finalist, and single season passing record says he is #1 and I don't see anybody dethroning him for a long time. There have been many greats, from Trippi, to Tarkenton, to Murray, but SBIV cemented his legacy the other night. They have one statue at UGa, of Herschell, and it doesn't even stay in one place. It moves around for marketing. SBIV will assuredly have a permanent statue right outside Sanford Stadium, and right next to Kirby's and Vince's statues. Make it happen Georgia!!!

I loved when Kirby gave him a shot, and the same with Ladd, and Bullard. I've supported Kirby since he came on board, and I don't second guess coach Smart. Though many have. As for Stetson Bennett, yes! He is the pinnacle of UGA football with Hershal Walker. From where he started, his story is one of the best in history. Most improved player in history! The greatest QB in UGA history. They need to retire his #13... I've thought since he showed he could handle Alabama in the National Championship, that he would do it again. I've told so many UGA fans that Coach knows what he is doing, and he has confidence in Big Game Bennett. So of course I do. But I see you're point. I wish I could find my comment stream defending Bennett for the last 3 years. He saved Georgia vs Arkansas in 20’. He was beating Alabama in 20’. He was up 14-0 over Florida in 20’ before he was injured. Alabama and Florida 20’ were two of his 3 losses. Daniels came in after the Florida injury and I thought “well I guess that’s it for Bennett “ But even though Daniels finished the season without losing, it was kind of “meh”. Georgia was out of the SEC championship after the Florida game. Something about Daniels didn’t jive at Georgia. I don’t know if it was the injuries or the outside influences of his personal qb coach or personal doctor keeping him out. Regardless, I’ve defended Bennett over and over . Georgia media was convinced they couldn’t win a championship with Bennett. Mike Griffith , Brandon Adams , that moron Uncle Lou All these guys claimed Georgia had to have Daniels to win. Wrong. I was in from the beginning. That’s a fact. That’s why I want my comment thread from KZread to prove it. I got another one for you- He’s going to show out at the combine. People are going to flip at how strong his arm actually is. I think he’s going to run a 4.5 / 40. And he’s a shoe-in to impress NFL teams in the brains department. As a Dawg fan, Stetson for me is the most successful player in UGA’s history. But for my money, he’s not the best football player to come out of that program. Let’s keep it 💯. He’s not a better athlete than any of those greats mentioned by Greg. Without Kirby Stetson would not even be in this conversation.

I understand the ratings game to argue who's the GOAT of any sport but I rarely hear these discussions include that without dominance on both side of the ball from other gifted players, Stetson dos not win JACK! He doesn't walk onto the filed one against Eleven, well at least in this universe and dominate the outcome. It also doesn't hurt that Ohio State's kicker shanked the ball to the left

  • @darthnatas953

Georgia missed two field goals. Ohio State should have gotten closer, rather than asking a kicker to make the bigest kick of his life with only a 42% chance of it being made. Of course Georgia didn't let them get closer, just like they held them to 3 points in the 4th quarter, while putting up 18 themselves. Of course if football games were only 45 minuters long, Ohio State would have won, but if football games were 75 minutes long, Georgia would have pulled away. Ohio State was done.

@@patrickoneill8707 You’re obviously old. “He needed no help” lol yeah ok. Football is literally the ultimate team sport but sure. It’s not hard to imagine him having a good o-line and a defense that prevented other teams from outscoring Georgia while Hershel was there. Also, UGA wasn’t “terrible forever after him” so please stop that nonsense. They had several 10 win seasons with Richt as the coach, they just didn’t win the title. It was only a matter of time until they started winning again since Georgia is a state that’s rich with recruiting talent.

@@patrickoneill8707 I see you don’t understand basic math. Richt started coaching in 2001. That’s a 20 year difference, not 30 you idiot. Also, you said they were “terrible forever”, which still makes your statement wrong. Every program has 20 year periods where they’re not good. Hershel was great, but stop acting like UGA’s success with him was the absolute best they’ll ever do.

Hopefully this beating will show the comity that TCU sentimental pick to be in the top 4 should never happen again. Say what you want but TCU had no business being there, no Big 12 team did. I keep seeing "They should still be proud".... Sure I guess if losing to Kansas State in the Big 12 championship, getting lucky getting in the playoffs, and then getting lucky against Michigan is something to be proud of sure, goto town. There are no moral victories in sports. TCU was out classed in every way possible, TCU should be embarrassed. Georgia made them quit but to be fair it probably would have been just as bad or worse if Michigan got tto the Natty, we all saw how they got dragged by UGA last year.
