May Allah make it easy! You have to work haaaaard after you make a dua. Success comes with effort! Just quit it altogether, don't do the "slowly slowly" thing. a lot of my family members stopped completely and never did it again it's been decades! You can do it ! Even if you fall, repent and keep going, keep working hard

Really excellent answer by Nouman ...he is being both overt and very subtle...he pays deference to the specialist scholars in their fields...further though he is also implying that too many people deliver opinions on issues they have no business doing so. These unqualified people include internet trolls, anti muslim brigade,ex muslims, conservative muslims, liberal muslims, "moderates" , apologists,tv commenters with muslim names, bloggers ,Dawah guys,politicians and radical extremists. Everyone wants to be an expert! (or think they are).

@@proudirish_man6552 Look up fatwas online like bin-baz, Islamway, and you'll find that the verse being used for prohibiting smoking as well as any other form of self-harm. Islamqa used another obvious verse 7:157: "...permits for them what is lawful and forbids to them what is impure".

I believe there is total sense in asking it. In certain Arab countries and that too Muslims, offer cigarette and shisha to the guests (and consume it themselves as well) as a part of culture and generosity. It never failed to amaze me to see women smoking two packs a day! May Allah guide us all.. Aameen

From my experience, I always ask the person who ask this question , do the person who smoke pray their 5 daily prayers. And 99% say NO. Then i tell them you have a bigger problem than smoking ! You see, Salat removes shameful deeds because they can not coexist !

Build that foundation up, develop your relationship with Allah and put the effort in to cut down on smoking and eventually stop. Allah will reward you for that insha'Allah. It will be good for your health and those around you too.

whats this clapping everytime. iam unable to hear what speaker is telling. some instructions to be passed to audience before lecture not clap in between.

Everyone is talking about due to stress it relieves them by smoking. I'm a smoker and honestly it harms you and InshaAllah I am trying to quit. So in the beginning you think its good and enjoy it but you don't know the harm it causes to your body. We have to look into other alternatives for stress and bordem. Number 1 start praying Salah. Sometimes read Quran. Keep yourself busy in gym to relief stress or use herbal remedies and leave everything to Almighty Allah because this world is temporary test. Be the best you can according to your weaknesses and illnesses. Don't think what others think of you. Once you get over this you will feel a big relief. Scholar's have mix opinions on smoking. I can't answer that.

Yes I have recorded most of them. This was my first time attending a convention like this. Yet alone seeing the speakers and scholars live in-front of me. I was standing in the queue, very badly wanting to ask a question to Mufti but the Q&A Session got cancelled :( I haven't uploaded Mufti Ismail Menk's because another brother seated near me has a better one Islam & Social Media by Mufti Menk - Dubai International Peace Convention 2014

Salt and suger can easily be harmful too to our body if taken regularly. At least in the long run, they will definitely have an unhealthy impact on our body when we get older. And drinking cold water too is definitely a big no no for health experts.

When it comes to physical health, it’s a very nuanced subject, and I think we should just hold ourselves accountable if we are making blatant bad health choices. No need to stress about the technicalities, just keep it simple. Whole Foods, no overeating, no excess sugar, exercise. Do what makes you feel strong everyday

Surely Allah (SWT) alone knows what's in heart. But when someone speaks something then atleast we know what one speaks. Dr. Zakir naik always answers any question you ask, in the matters of fiqh he is wrong variuos times because HE IS NOT EXPERT IN FIQH (which he himself accepts). He should concentrate on Contemporary studies and giving dawah to non muslims (in which i accept him master). This is not criticism but, this is matter of specialization. You see Imam Bukhari (RAH) was expert in Hadith, he seldom commented on tafsir; Imam ibn kathir (R) expert on tafsir, he seldom commented on Issues of Hadith etc. In salaf there were experts in all fields. Nouman ali khan is speciliazed in one aspect of quran (which he speaks about) so he does not touch other issues.

@@shahidshahnits imam bukhari was a faaqeeh muhaddith and had knowledge of tafsir Your point on ibn kathir don't make sense as he is a hadith scholar I his own right. Your point though is somewhat right but like when you have scholars that idea doesn't really hold. With students of knowledge yes your point holds

he can still answer the question all he has to do is preferences answer by saying I'm not a scholar but according to the general consensus of scholars such and such issue is deemed halal or Haram but if you have the ability please check with a scholar. but in America where we don't have the type of institutions that they have in other parts of the Muslim world with access to Islamic scholars I think it's incumbent upon brothers like him who are students of knowledge to give answers to questions if they know the answer

Who are you to say it is allowed? The Sheikh clearly answered the question: it is HARAM! Islam is not about personal choice. If you choose to smoke, then you are doing harm to yourself, both in this life and the next-life. Why would you deliberately pay for and consume something that you know can kill you? Is not clear enough that smoking kills? And life is not about enjoying. Remember, this life is temporary. You can enjoy all you want for an eternity in heaven, but remember to do that you have to have patience, and avoid worldly, materialistic desires. Enjoyment won't help you on the Day Of Judgment. We are here to worship God, not to enjoy.

Agree that smoking is a useless habit and you will cause harm to your health.. But if that is the case then everything you do in excess which will cause harm to your health should be declared as Haram like. Having too much food. Being cautious of what you eat and curb the desires of eating nonsense food. How about soft drinks like coke and pepsi even they are harmful for health...why doesn't the sheikh say that it is haram. How about marrying four wives out of lust for sex and like a donkey producing children and eventually abondaning them with no care love and effection. Is not this Haram. And least but not....how about cheating people for money and inflicting harm on other people to satisfy your personal jelousy and greed and lust for money. Is not this Haram. Can the sheikh declare that it is Haram for a person to call himself muslim or perform the other islamic rituals if that person has cheated people for money or inflicting pain and suffering on other human beings. I am sure he will never declare this even if is the ultimate truth. He will declare things only what is convenient for him. But you can tell the sheikh that Islam doesn't work like that. Do you understand. Either you give in completely and submit your life to the will of Allah or simply forget it and do your work and don't propogate bullshit things.

Mash Allah, great response by Noman Ali. I cannot understand the issue of fiqh. Muslims have the Quran and hadith of the prophet. So then why do we have hanfi , shafi,etc. But my main issue is why do we have to completely follow one or the other? You can't chose for some issues to follow one imam and on another issue follow another imam. These imams are very knowledgeable people indeed. But they are not flawless. Maybe on one issue they have made a mistake so we should follow anther imam.

There are basically 4 aspects to Fiqh. 1) Qur'an 2) Sunnah 3) Ijma (consensus) 4) Qiyas sahi (correct concept) The last two must compliant with the first two.

Smoking sheesha in a public cafe with her tigh widely opened and kept the sheesha bottle between it is not doubt haram ,whatever way she dressed. I was shocked on seeing such scenes and suspecting such ladies islamic belief though she looks like a muslim with hijab.

Nouman is a master of speaking a lot and saying nothing. His self-indulgence is off the charts. This is a man in love with hearing his own voice. He spends two minutes saying what essentially amounts just to, "I don't know. Ask the other guy." Then why answer? Let the Shaykh speak. He is working to obscure the commands of Allah while sitting next to Shaykh Assim! What bravery! Such a snake is not to be trusted.

@@Shumayal Wrong about what? If he knew he was not going to give an answer, and he obviously did, why spent two minutes going in circles to ultimately make no point at all? The actual substance of his answer came from his own experience. Is this the deen? No. The deen comes from the Qur'an and the Sunnah, and is explained by the scholars. Instead, our brother Nouman intentionally obfuscates the reality, which is that there is a consensus among the scholars that smoking is haram. You have to convey the ruling as it is. You can't try to inject your own "wisdom" into the religion of Allah.

Ppl started smoking for reducing stress, anxiety, seizures, etc. Smoking has become really harmful in moder times due to extra shit that the companies add, other during 1800s and early 1900s smoking was never a cause of DEATH

@@epic7716 no, his personal opinion is irrelevant. If you understood the difference between fiqh and aqeedah you'd understand. He has no qualification to discuss what is halal or haraam besides that which is absolutely clear in the Quran. More knowledgeable scholars qualified in fiqh and rulings have studied hadith relating to laws in a much more detailed manner so are allowed to comment to that effect. random example but you wouldn't sit next to Michael Schumacher and give others advice on how best to drive a fast car would you? Even if you've driven a few Lamborghini's in your time your opinion is just an opinion. In Islam we should be very careful to mix opinions when it comes to law as it can misinform people and you can be held accountable for that misinformation.

@@LagunaLeonhart this is why the prophet Muhammad(May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) told us "be you all learned people" that is because if someone is very well informed and follows the right guidance, he would not be corrupted nor compromise his religion even if a scholar tells him to do something that Allah gave us no authority to do. The Quran and the authentic hadith are clear concerning halal and haram. You don't need a scholar intervention to answer such question. Allah said "eat of the lawful thing" and in Surah 2:195 Our Lord says "don't throw yourself into destruction with your own hand" Cigarette is haram because it causes lung cancer and detriment the body even a non muslim can answer this question better that nouman khan

The cigarrette packets itself has a disclaimer that it is harmful to health and could cause cancer. 1st and foremost, who determine what is good or what is bad, the sheikh's or doctors? Sometimes red meat or any other halal food could be deadly to someone's health, does it becomes haram for them? So is it that, the doctors will start determining halal and haram for different petiant. Finally the hadith of prophet (pbh), Before the last time the deceivers and the liers will come with the news you never heard neither your forefathers, bewere of them not to be mislead or misguided.

Doctor here, there are literally zero Benefits from smoking/ shisha, and if you knew how negatively they affect the body this discussion wouldn't even be on the table!

When asked whether something was halal or haram, Imam Abou Hanifa would tremble lest he made something halal haram or vice versa. Today, halal and haram are distributed as sweets. The Quran stipulates quite a few actions / things haram. Other things that are haram are those that make one forget Allah such as music. Cigarettes do not have such results. They are less harmful than breathing day and night polluted air. I have smoked 20 cigarettes a day for 36 years. Alhamdulillah, I am still alive. This does not mean that cigarettes should not be discouraged. But they are not haram. They should neither be associated with ALLAH SWT injunction "Do not kill yourself". This has yo do with suicide. Smoking is not suicide.

Brother farouk I pray that this doesn't happen to you but your story mirrors every single cancer/ COPD patient that I see in the wards, you not only harm every single system in your body by smoking but you also harm those around you with second-hand smoke, and give up your will to that addictive nicotine, try quitting and see how strong of a hold that it has on you! Yes for now you might not have noticed any negative health impacts but I assure you that on the inside it's wreaking havoc all over your body, this is chronic suicide!

asalamu alaykum. i don't think asking a doctor is needed when talking about the dangers of smoking, its well known that smoking causes damage to your body and increases your risk of cancer - i highly doubt you'd ever find a doctor encouraging smoking

Sheikhs are qualified to speak on such matters because they've studied more than a single line of text compared to the average person you're talking about. Don't belittle their knowledge. The average person knows Hitler was a bad guy but a history teacher is often qualified to tell you exactly why with specific references to his actions.

The rules of what various scholars are allowed to comment on have been established for generations by senior Islamic scholars in the past. As a doctor who's spent years getting an education you should have a better grasp on the differences between a medical degree and being qualified to speak on Islamic rulings. It's a very different art. You're knowledge comes from science, theirs comes from interpretations of the word of Allah. You are qualified to say whether smoking harms the body, yet they are qualified to explain what Allah views as harmful and make educated deductions when applying those views to EVERY DAY ISSUES. Anybody who says you're wasting a scholars time by asking such an obvious question is an idiot in my book. That's what they're there for. It's a public question and answer session. NOT a meeting of scholars. The fact that so many are clapping, so many Muslims own Shisha bars and so many believe it to be maqruh even now goes to show it's not obvious. You are not qualified to speak on matters of halal and haraam, especially one that is often debated as being maqruh Vs haram

Salamun alaikum theologian nouman khan, if you can't answer such a simple question as someone who studied the Quran, then it's obvious that you are ignorant of the Quran and the authentic hadith. your answer can mislead many. It is best that we all seek knowledge from the Quran, the authentic hadith, and from the rightly guided leaders and scholars. our beloved prophet Muhammad May Allah bless him said this in his farewell sermon. As muslims we are all qualified to forbid evil and enjoin what is good whether we studied fiqh or not.

@@sannam3611 Please, don't speak without knowledge, most fuqohaa' around the world agreed that smoking is haraam. Watch dr. Zakir Naik's answer about smoking where he quoted the fatwa of most of the fuqohaa' of many muslim majority countries who agreed that smoking is haraam. Should i ask a faaqih if heroin is haraam? Let's use our brains. Further more, don't swallow every thing any muslim speaker say about Islam, refer to the understanding of the salafus sholih. Nouman ali khan said when he was asked a political question in Malaysia, he said that we need to think what's best for the non muslims as well, as though Islam doesn't have best way to tolerate the non muslims. Listen to any muslim speaker with a grain of salt.

It's nowhere to be found explicitly in the Qur'an nor sunnah. We can play this ignorant games all day my friend. This nouman guy of yours couldn't even answer a simple question in Malaysia wether to support muslim leader or a non muslim leader. as long it's from the salaf, I like listening to him, but i Don't swallow every thing he said blindly. @@sannam3611 allow me to remind you that respecting a person doesn't mean that you have to condone their lies and errors. Our Lord says in surah 2:42 "do not cover up the truth with falsehood nor conceal the truth while you know it" what nouman did was conceal the truth and this is very wrong because he obstructed those who were in doubt concerning smoking from being reminded of how detrimental cigarette is to the health and soul. If he had spoken the truth that day, his reminder could have profits smokers and non smokers but he chose the wrong path to hide the knowledge of the Quran and misguide people
