I rage-rushed doing my PRK surgery because my glasses broke while i was travelling in Japan and that was the last straw for me putting up with glasses lol. PRK's healing time is really slow. Im about 5 months plus post surgery right now. My vision is so much better now.

@@fortunecookie999 it's been around 1.5 months now. No noticeable difficulties in terms of vision. I'm able to see well at night and even bright sunlight is okay for short periods of time. Dry eye has been steadily decreasing and I feel much more comfortable for longer periods of time during the day. I really have to remind myself to put drops in. I also don't wake up feeling like I have grit in my eye anymore. Corneal sensation seems to be returning a bit slowly (but to be expected). I can actually feel the lubricant gel falling onto my eye now, but I'm sure sensitivity will increase more. All in all, slow, steady and solid recovery.

I am in the process to choose the type of surgery I want. My doctor told me that my eyes where perfect for all threatments and therefore should go with Smile. I myself would like to take transPRK. The problem I have with Smile is it does not have eye tracking and I am really scared to move my eye. If I practise to focus I just feel some unwanted movements. With your experience or maybe others. How difficult is it for you to keep your eyes still? TransPRK has Eye tracking and I really would like to have that to be sure nothing goes wrong but I want the best end result.

my surgery for lasik is on sept 28th. i have been waiting for months and very exited , untill 3 days ago when i developed a bad tooth ache ...so of course i start searching on the internet and basically it said i cant have sugery if i have an infection which i dont think i have . it feels more like a nerve is exposed but i cant be sure. 8 just left a frantic message for the doc who is doing surgery lol , i relly do t want to see dentist till after but at the same time im scared what could happen if i dont!! i know i can rescedule my eys surgery , but i really dont want to , im so upset , today is sunday sept 17 2023 , i cnt wait for doc to call tomorrow and tell me what to do . i have a ad feeling i am going to be very disappointed 😢

Just had my SMILE yesterday and my experience is similar to yours. The only frustrating thing to me is that I was told not to shower for the first 48 hours (imagine being in a humid country like Singapore). Was having -5.25 (left) and -4.75 (right) before the surgery, totally enjoying my 20/20 vision. Pro tip: Do not research on videos of SMILE before your surgery. Let the professionals do the work, and yes don't skimp on costs.

I listened because I’m curious if this is worth getting for myself. It was great, thank you. What are candidate constraints? Are they vision related or more so whole-body health related? For example, My vision isn’t terrible, 20/40 20/50ish- is that not terrible enough to be a candidate. Awesome vid all around, many blessings 🙏🏻

Definitely go see an eye doctor to get an evaluation. They’ll be able to tell you better and if you go to a laser eye center it’s usually free

I was back 3 days later hitting pads, and drilling/sparring a week later.* BUT I did get popped right in the eye and it stung like a bitch lol. Ended up getting those dorky protective sports goggles. I think I wore them for a few weeks before I gave up. Haven't had any issues since. If I were to give advice (do I say and not as I do etc.🥲) I'd argue you're good to go as soon as you feel like your eyes are back to normal, just make sure to wear eye protection because even if you're careful, accidents still happen as I'm sure you've experienced. You're definitely back in action much sooner than PRK, although I'd check with the doc as to how soon you can compete since that would require a lot of potential unprotected eye-glove contact haha. *Also should mention that I was still slightly light sensitive when I came back, so if your gym has bright fluorescence or a lot of windows/natural light, it may be uncomfortable.

hi! :) im 19, and my prescription is -4.25 myopia for both eyes, also 0.75 astigmatism on right eye and 1.00 astigmatism in left eye. i am thinking about smile surgery in 2 or 3 years, however night vision and light sensivity problems scare me too much. do you see a lot of glares, halos, starbursts or distorted lights? and do lights bother you in general? i know i will have these symptoms while i heal, i don’t want them to last more than 2 years or for the rest of my life lol. my pupil size is also slightly larger, and that’s one of the reasons im afraid

Oh I feel you!! My bf got his eyes done by the same guy years ago so I trusted his referral 🥸

i used the Bates method. it cost me $30 for the guidebook. you manage your visual system the way a baseball player does. the probability of surgical complications with Bates is 0%.

I am getting this done this week. I am so nervous. Could you see after surgery and were you able to drive yourself back the next day?

I had the same procedure last Tuesday 16/07/24 and I had the same experience, I had the easiest time with my right eye and had the hard time focusing on the green light on my left eye. Nonetheless it’s the best decision I have done, my vision is so much better now! It is still adjusting/fluctuating specially when reading close.

Is this surgery for people who are not eligible for Lasik and prk due to thin cornea?

There’s a lot that goes into qualifying-I do believe it can be better for thin corneas but that’s only one part of the bigger picture. Many surgeons offer free exams and they can tell you exactly what will work for you :)

although after this video my nervousness is gone but do anyone else notice something at @9:20 that someone is present at door, or it was something.

30million people get some form of laser eye surgery every year. Before my eye surgery I went down the rabbit hole of horror stories and in almost every case it was someone who wasn't a candidate for laser eye surgery but was told they were. If you are worried get an eye exam from someone who has no invested interest in you getting the surgery

This is partially correct. You can’t do SMILE on an eye that’s already done SMILE, but you can do LASIK or PRK after. My surgeon offers free enhancements for life and said if I wasn’t happy with my vision we could easily do PRK after (with no additional side effects other than anything already associated with PRK).

My vision was like -6 in both eyes before the surgery so without glasses I coudnt see anything. Overall I am happy with the surgery and everything cannot be perfect.😀

Probably good that you didn't end up being a blind superhero and your able to see very well. I'm a retired optician and as such it became very normal for me to be fitting glasses on girls at around 10 or 11 and boys a few years later when they were around 13 and 14. Now here's why your eyesight started changing around that age. That was also when you were experiencing the most body growth. That also can effect your eyes because they start to lengthen. That lengthening is called myopia or what you know it as nearsightedness. Your first glasses were most likely only around -.75 or maybe -1.00 which was why you only needed to wear them part time. Mostly to see the board at school. But once you start wearing glasses and as your body continues to grow your nearsightedness is also being changed. You switched to contacts when you were in 8th grade and you were probably 13 or 14 by then and when you went for your consultation for your Smile surgery your prescription had reached -5.00. Pretty much I would have expected your vision to be by then. So needless to say without contacts or glasses you were unable to function in daily life. When you suddenly showed up wearing glasses in your video you didn't say why you were wearing glasses. Because you were mostly a fulltime contact lens wearer your corneas had ridges where your lenses sat on them which needed to be made smooth or flat again and the only way of doing that is by going without contacts for usually at least two weeks prior to your surgery date. If the ridges aren't smoothed out the results of your laser treatment may not be as good as you were wanting. I loved how your bf was telling you that you had been in a coma for two years. At that point you couldn't have been too far from believing him. I'm glad that your surgery went well and to be honest they now have the various forms of laser eye surgery to the pint that complications are really quite rare as long as you as the patient did everything you were told to do in preparation for your surgery. For example i know that not everyone will go without their contacts for two weeks as instructed. That of can effect the outcome of the surgery. Also something you didn't mention is that your eyes need to have become :completely" stable for at least a year and some doctors prefer that yo be as long as 18 months to 2 years without any change in your prescription. So how long was it from when you last needed an increase in your prescription? Now your clearly still a young woman and at some point will most likely get married and want to start a family. You should know that approximately 50% of pregnancies will effect a woman's eyesight. So if you at some point are about 6 - 8 months pregnant and things are slowly becoming more and more blurry you will know why. Now the good news is your eyesight won't be anywhere close to being -5.00 again. But probably anywhere from -.75 to around -1.50. I'm assuming that Smile provided you with a lifetime warranty in case your eyesight should change over time that you could get a "touch-up" or in other words get the procedure done again to bring your eyesight back to 20/20 again. However I don't know if includes vision change due to pregnancy. At the time when you filmed this it had only been a few days after your surgery and your vision was at 20/20. But they generally try to correct your eyes to 20/15 so if there is any regression after a year or so you would still be at 20/20. In your follow ups what were you at? Because you wore contacts fulltime I'm assuming you didn't like wearing glasses in public even though you clearly looked really cute wearing your glasses. Surprisingly I saw quite a few lasik patients that after a few years started missing their glasses. Do you think you might miss your glasses at some point?

@@MorgiMD you mean around lights right ? halo is definitely a thing! Especially at the beginning and it takes months to go away. I remember it took me around 6-8 months but I also had very high miopia so it’s really personal. I would say even now sometimes I do see a halo around the street lights but I noticed it’s when my eyes are super dry!

I got my SMILE in korea and the surgery only takes 5 minutes and i would recommend to wear sunglasses 1000%

I did SMILE surgery on 27/07/2023. eyesight was -5.5. I resumed my office work after 4 days of rest. After 1 week my night vision is not clear. Some blurriness is still there. Hope it will be clear after some months.

dear Lady I can tell you as a Master of Martia Arts in Karate you will feel bad as your eyes are noe a liabilty viz: if you got a punch in the face your flap will fly off and you will end up in surgeries room again. Alsowhen you get old you will feel that you need to have it redone huhuhh

Laser eye surgery is NEVER worth it. I had lasik and ended up with glare, starburst, ghosting and pain. Oh, did I mention dry eye? This was easily the worst mistake of my life. Keep your glasses!

I wouldn't say it's "never" worth it. Many people (including myself) are very happy with the outcome. Everything in life comes with risk and it's just a matter of deciding if the level of risk is worth the potential upside. That being said, I'm sorry to hear that it didn't go well for you. I hope you're able to heal better as time goes on, and if not, that you can find a support system to lean on. There are several online groups that discuss living with LASIK side effects that you may find useful.

@@WesleyAnna you have no idea what you're talking about. First there is no way to manage a less than ideal outcome. Glasses don't work, contacts don't work. And second with a weakened cornea you can develop ectasia. This can happen regardless if you have a good visual outcome or not.

I’m curious how you can tell me that I “have no idea what I’m talking about” when I have undergone laser eye surgery myself. I understand you’re frustrated but again, many people are happy with the results of their surgery and you are spreading misinformation by saying that no one has ever been satisfied with their choice. I’m not trying to invalidate your experience. I understand that (a not insignificant amount of) people have regretted their decision. But equally so, you don’t have a right to invalidate my own and others’ experiences. You’re also making a sweeping statement by talking about laser eye surgery as a whole-LASIK is not the same as SMILE. They have different risks and requirements. Like I said, every surgery has risks. It’s the patient’s responsibility to research these risks and assess their comfort level. Every side effect you mentioned has been well-documented and any doctor worth their salt will review that with you. The only real issue is if you chose to “save” by working with an inexperienced surgeon or one who lied to you-in which case your anger would be better directed at them, not some random stranger on the internet.

@@WesleyAnna I know what I'm talking about too because I too had laser eye surgery and since suffering from complications I researched extensively the topic. I can't "spread misinformation" because what I'm posting it's true. Complications from this surgery can arise years down the line. Be it prk, lasik or smile. I'm not saying that no one is satisfied with their outcome. In fact people with dry eye can be happy. People with starburst can be happy. People who end up in glasses anyways can be happy. Did you go to a doctor worth their salt? Because I didn't go for cheap like you're insinuating. Have they disclosed to you the incidence of visual side effects? Were you well informed about them? Have they mentioned ectasia and how it can be managed?

@@emanuelecetoloni5920 I didn’t say you don’t know what you are talking about. You only said that to me. Saying that “laser eye surgery is NEVER worth it” IS spreading misinformation and it IS insisting that “no one is satisfied”. You are implying that EVERY person will have some sort of undesirable consequence from their surgery even if they are happy with it. Unless you can link to studies with compelling evidence of this, then making sweeping statements about everyone’s experience isn’t helpful. And yes, I went to a very good doctor who explained all of the potential side effects in detail. They were patient and allowed me to ask any questions I wanted. I also went to a conservative surgeon who screens his patients extensively and refuses to operate on anyone who doesn’t meet certain requirements (corneal thickness/dry eye etc.) Many people still get the side effects you mentioned. And like you said, I still may have issues in the future. But fear mongering doesn’t help people make informed decisions for themselves anymore than glossing over the risks does.

I heard that you can have this surgery only after 22-24 years old for the wished results, but I'm very afraid that it will get lower. Since there are certain conditions your eye must have if you want to get a surgery( the corneea width, for example, etc) I was wondering about if my eyesight keeps getting worse util that age could I also get a surgery or they wouldn't accept me? How low is it acceptable?🤍

I’m planning to do PRK but different stories someone says best decision and some call it worst decision of life, I’m qualified for PRK tomorrow is my appointment but still confused 🥲

No surgery is without risks! It is absolutely possible for laser surgery to ruin your life, just as it's possible to get into a car accident every time you leave the house. Based on the success rate of qualified PRK doctors and how long the practice has been around, I would personally classify that in "acceptable risk" territory. But at the end of the day, that's me. Only you can decide if the risk is worth it for you.
