Great video. I was talking with my 9 year old about this. He's a big kid, 61" and 105lbs. He was asking me about my weight. I'm 73" and about 225 ( not very fit.) Raced bicycles for about seven years and my race weight was 165-170. Thing is, in cycling you always want to be light. I felt better at 170-175, but was faster on most courses at about 167. I tended toward being a little heavier so getting down to weight was hard for me. We are starting a training routine next week. My son wants a little more strength. You have great insight, keep up the great videos

This is 100% true, I was told by my JUCO coach that he was concerned about my size (as I was signing my offer) even though I had the best throwing arm at that school the year I was there. I was 5’11 about 160lbs and benched 260 and my coach could never get over my weight. Eat and lift, period.

Good video, I need to share this with my son. He's only 7 now, and willingly practices baseball 5-7 days a week, but has no interest in eating like he need to (what kid does?). Judging by me and his mom, he's going to be about Altuve height, so eating right and putting on good weight will be that much more important. He's nothing but ribs and backbone now, lol.

I literally eat everything i can, weight gainers, diet on point, lift 5 days a week. gained 15 pounds in 8 months, lean muscle little to no fat. I hated my diet though, at some point i was eating so much i would gag while eating meals. stomach hurt all the time, and i felt less healthy then when i wasnt on the bulking diet. in my personal opinion, being 5'7 155 was worse for me athletically then being 5'7 140. even though i was hitting the ball harder, my speed decreased dramatically and my range decreased in the MIF.

Talent is talent and a great attitude to add to it gets noticed consistency of always producing is key in baseball if you have 2 kids one big and strong a lot of raw talent and a smaller kid that is skilled this is the scenario the big kid it's a matter of time when he gets it the smaller kid we can make stronger baseball is a skilled sport it takes countless reps of proper technique to judge and know baseball scenario to be good so I would Say size does not matter its about being being baseball Savoy and disciplined makeing plays and consistently hitting at the plate

I'm a bit confused. When it comes to hitting with power some experts say being big and strong is not the holy grail. A 130-pound guy with good swing mechanics that produce quick bat speed can hit further than a 185-pound guy with bad swing mechanics that produce slow bat speed. Of course, it's been proven that the more bodyweight you have means the more weight you can transfer into the ball which equals distance however getting bigger is not going to turn you into a power hitter overnight if your swing is slow due to bad mechanics. Good swing mechanics can make up for a lack of bodyweight. I've seen it first hand. Guys that weigh less than me hitting lasers to the warning track. I'm like how is that possible? Lol

Hello coach, My Son is going into his SR HS year. He is projected currently to play Juko or D2 and 6-0 -165 pounds. He was 155 pounds last yr. Do you believe it’s a bad idea to not play final year of travel to focus on body gains, weight, strength, speed and And still hit and bro with his trainer 3 to 4 times a week in a controlled atmosphere. He’s not heavily recruited at this time and most of the reasons go back to size and measurable. Not so much the ball skills

Antonelli Baseball 🙏🏼 for the reply and taking the time. In Indiana he played with Midwest Evo Shield Canes for 4yrs at a high level, last year he got squeezed out in 15U due to lacking D1 measurables. Made good gains in this past offseason peaking at 170lbs and had a strong Vars season in 4A conf. He’s now dropped 5-10lbs from spring when he peaked weight due to only playing ball. He believes there’s zero opportunity getting noticed or offered after this travel season. I disagree. I believe these next 12 months are body critical and opportunity to play at a good JUCO. It’s nice to get a outside opinion.

I do not understand the obsession with height and weight in baseball. Being 6’-3” and 210 is by no means a guarantee of success. How many Bartolo Colons, Jose Altuves, Willians Astudillos, Adam Eatons etc does there need to be for baseball to realize that guys who can play is what matters? If you give me a choice between Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa, I’ll take Altuve all day, in spite of the fact that he’s 5’-6”. Enough already.

How many MLB players are 5'6 though? There is a reason you don't see a ton of 5'6-5'9 players in the MLB, yet you see a ton of guys that are over 6 feet tall.

Antonelli Baseball Your Point is valid and well-taken, and I would suggest that the reason is because baseball still hasn’t gotten past the “looks like a baseball player” mentality in spite of the metrics used extensively these days. Moneyball was a huge step in the direction of changing how baseball thinks, but there’s a long way to go.

Antonelli Baseball Even in youth travel ball, I’m amazed at how many teams eliminate players based on a body model. We played a couple teams that had players who were intimidating to look at, but couldn’t play. I couldn’t care less what a kid looks like...if he can hit, run and throw, he can play.

5’6 , 160 . Starting catcher for my sophomore and now my Junior year , was on the pine freshman year and sophomore year only caught 5 games because of injury. In the sophomore summer i threw a 2.1 80mph . I’ve been trying to play 2nd or 3rd for the past 2 Years and my coach won’t let me change. I feel it’s gonna set be back at going to the next level. Could you give me some advice on this situation.

Look into the 5x5 weight lifting program. It's free and with the right nutrition and protein intake, you can gain muscle quickly. check out stronglifts dot com for more info. No fee, no selling, no pressure. Work out about 1 hour per day every other day. Then you can incorporate baseball specific training as well.

You can still perform at a high level overweight. Russel Wilson & Kyler Murray are overweight according to the BMI. Dustin Pedroia, 5'9 175lbs. Still overweight. Body mechanics maximize power, hip torque for your bat speed & throwing velocity. Tim Lincecum threw faster than Clayton Kershaw...Billy Wagner at 5'9 pumped 102lbs..... Baseball is a sport with little to no impact against your opponent. This isn't football, hockey, wrestling, or mma. You stay within your own box in baseball..... weight gain isn't necessary... I am currently a pro mma fighter & college baseball player
